The plants look like Bromeliads but I’m not sure cause it was not clear enough. I just can’t believe they leave these places to rot when there are so many homeless people in the world. There should be a charity that would accept these places to reuse for homeless people. Not counting the antiques could be sold to make the homes into multi family home. The dead rat in the bed reminded me of a funny story. My husband and I lived in Dallas Texas and rats are big there! We were having our window screens repaired and my husband liked fresh air so he opened the window at night for a few days when I noticed rat droppings in the kitchen one day. We had four cats so I thought there was no way a rat would come in but sure enough one night a rat jumped on our bed when we were asleep and landed on my husband who woke up screaming. The rat was huge and took off into our hallway. We tried to find it and get it out but couldn’t so the next day I went to Home Depot and bought some huge sticky rat traps that we placed strategically on the window sill. Sure enough we caught the rat which fell off the windowsill onto the floor and my husband and I were standing on the bed freaking out. My badass husband who is definitely a manly man looks at me and said get rid of it! What??? Me??? This huge rat was still alive & biting at everything it could reach with huge yellow teeth. The cats wouldn’t get anywhere near it. Well, I’ve been a Tomboy all my life so I get off the bed and get a huge trash bag and a broom. I pushed this rat into the bag with the broom and took it out to the bin. Mind you, I’m an animal lover but there was no way in hell I was going to try & save that rat! He looked like a mutant from the New York City sewers! Needless to say the screens were put back on the windows ASAP !! It was horrible but funny long afterwards thinking about my tough husband telling me to get it! 🤣

What a great place, beautiful home (if you could see through the decay and trashing). I absolutely lived all the old photos, actual smiling faces in some of these and the lovely wedding photo. Also I noticed they took many pics standing around the same chair. Yes it was lace making samples not embroidery. They were obviously into different business ventures including wine making! Did Sam go AWOL for the last part? Great job though Jess, loved your commentary and especially when you found the animal… so sweet and funny. Great video guys 💜

The cloth pieces in the scrap book on the bench are lace tatting. They were either pattern samples or someone was learning how to tat. I had an elderly great aunt who knew how to tat. I still have a whole tablecloth she had made during WWII. It's kind of like crochet only really tiny. Hopefully it's not a dead art and someone out there knows how to do it.

I don’t understand how so many fabulous places are just left with everything intact inside to rot away. So many seem to go this route. What happened? Is there really no family at all left, even distant relatives to inherit these places?? It’s so sad that people spent their lives collecting things that meant a lot to them and all of their family photos as well are now just left to rot or be vandalized or stolen. Such a pity!

The front doors were awesome with the arch and stained glass, as well as the other arched doorways. I learned recently that when there is a 'settee' or a bench, that is in the hall by the stairway, it is called a gossip bench. I always like the old photos... my Dad was born in 1902, so it makes me realize the things he witnessed as time evolved. The furniture in these places are always so beautiful, along with the vases and rugs. The old pedestal Singer sewing machine is so classic... my Mother had one. On a different note, the rooster in the background was priceless! lol And to finish my lengthy comment, Jess, you did good on your own in the cellar and following footage! Just wish we could've seen what critter was in the barn! Much love from Texas!

Hello loveies!!! Were they farmers? Were they selling wine? Whatever they did they did it well! It definitely looks like they had to hurry and get out though. Was he in some sort of mafia? They didn’t even have time to pack one of the trunks and take them out. BoyI bet that place was amazing when it was in its heyday. I don’t think it’s longed for this world. There were certainly some incredible artifacts. Thank you guys so much for this one. Loads of fun. I love you Jess going off on your own. I was kind of curious to see what was under the hay as well. Hello Sam and Jess from The Hocking Hills, Ohio USA. So you were commenting on the toilet paper everywhere. The fact is all those blue pots with lids, they had dirt or ashes in them. They would sprinkle lyme in them. Those are potty pots. Some call them chamber maid pots. Probably used before they had toilets. Maybe why they were mainly upstairs in the old part. They would keep one in each bedroom and usually empty them daily. And I believe that place outside with all the green water in it was where they would first dump the grapes. I absolutely love you video's. I don't know what more beautiful, the properties or the two of you. The accents are lovely. You are absolutely adorable. 💙💜💐
