It was so painful watching Ryan convince himself that a 7 sided polygon is called a septagon
@elisa7163 Жыл бұрын
the problem is that some of the "scientific number terms" (p.e. polygons or centi-meters) come from greek and others from latin(which sometimes (p.e. 6) are even the same). With polygons it's greek, if it were latin he would have actually been right to call it septagon - so that was a mean one

my math teacher always described prime numbers as numbers that only have two factors, one and themselves. so, one isn’t a prime number because it doesn’t have two factors, just one. 1x1 🤷♀️

A prime number has to be greater than 1 because a prime number is a number that only has two distinct factors, 1 and itself. In the case of 1, it's factors are 1 and 1, meaning that it has only one distinct factor. As a high school student, this video was absolutely *h i l a r i o u s*

The mindset behind the two-year term was that since representatives were the closest thing to the people when the Constitution was conceived, then their two-year term would hold them accountable to those people-if they were constantly being voted in or reelected, people had to like them (by people, at that point it was property-owning white men) so it kept them honest and attuned to people's needs.
@juliasings6131 Жыл бұрын
1 can't be a prime number because a prime number is defined as a number that is only divisible by itself and 1. 1 is divisible only by 1, so it can't be a prime number. You talked about 9 in the video, so I'll use that as an example, because it might not make sense otherwise. I'll use 8 and 9. If you draw a factor tree for 8, it has 4 factors: 1, 2, 4, and 8. However, if you do it for 9, it only has 3: 1, 3, and 9. 1 is a perfect square, which means that one of its factors repeats, and when writing out factors that repeat, we only write them once. So 1 only has one factor, itself or 1, but not both. It's also not composite because it's only got one factor, so it's really just weird Tldr: 1 is a strange number so it's not prime

Is the thing about Buzz being the one who was suppose to be the first to step on the moon but due to their position Neil had to get out first true? I like remember hearing about something like that once upon a time.
@JDF20883 жыл бұрын
The reason that one is not prime is that the Fundamental Theorem of Arithmetic says that every positive whole number can be written as a unique product of primes, but if one was prime, this would not be the case because there would be infinite numbers of prime factorisations (one could be multiplied by any factorisation to give another factorisation). Due to this, the theorem wouldn’t be correct if one was prime (there wouldn’t be unique factorisations), so they decided to say that one was not prime.

prime numbers have to (only) be divisible by itself AND 1 so cause that’s the same thing for 1 it’s kinda in a separate category

As the resident mathematician (and number theorist, which means I deal with primes a lot), 1 is not a prime because it's included in the definition, and it's the multiplicative identity element of the integers (to throw a little group theory at you).

Maths isn't actually made up rules. To a certain extent they are since you can make functioning mathematical spaces defined by different sets of rules. But things like prime numbers and triangles etc are defined by the universe, the rules we have are a way to make our brains understand these actual laws of nature.

guys 13 can be divided by a number that isnt 13, because it can be divided by 1. Therefore, the rule isn't just "able to divide by a number that isn't this number" but also "it can't be 1" so 1 is obviously not in the game
