SO THIS IS AWKWARD ... but the Kylie Momager collection came out Mother's Day 2018 NOT 2019. How I got so lost watching my WIBI videos I stumbled into last year I don't know BUT ... that's my bad. Lol! I love how you spoke of jh cosmetics! How you spoke about them in your podcast ( i dont think you named names, but I knew to whom you were referring, lol) was really eye opening to me as well. Speaking of game of thrones, the way you talk about creating characters in your own stories and how they're not all good people, I could see you loving the books maybe even the series if you gave it a shot. I only recently binged the first 6 seasons while snowed in with no satellite. No regrets though, it's so great! I remember when the GOT palette was released. As a huge fan, I couldn't understand how they came up with the color story. Looked like someone on a deadline showed up to work with a hangover and just tossed it together. None of the colors made sense. It was weird. I passed. Merry Christmas, Sam! I think the hottest most memorable flop was JH nude lipsticks. James Charles mini palette was also the most unimaginative release. Bh palettes were maybe not the most unique, but very office/school/every day running errands friendly. The quality was good, just not the fireworks that everyone's expected. That Colourpop Peach palette came right after the “Orange you glad?” Palette and it had a similar vibe. They did the strawberry shake palette, too. That one reminded me of the “Main Squeeze” Palette. I frankly was getting sick of all the color themed palettes. I did like the boring Going Coconuts palette. I love that one. I guess trying all that color, boring brown never looked so refreshing.

For me the biggest flop is Lady Gaga’s brand. I have no idea how it is doing from a financial standpoint, perhaps her fans who are not big consumers of beauty videos on KZbin are buying Haus Laboratory products, but based on the KZbin videos the brand is a disaster. I think it reached the point when it’s almost impossible to turn this brand around, people are uninterested about the releases. I think Jen Loves Reviews mentioned in a recent video that the Game of Thrones palette is available in Nordstrom Rack - that tells a lot about how successful the launch was.... On an unrelated note, when you say “no one talks about it”, it’s because I have the feeling that KZbinrs often talk about the same brands. Perhaps because they are influenced by each other’s videos, they are getting the same PR or they only check Trendmood. I noticed that if something doesn’t have an appearance on Trendmood, most KZbinrs don’t talk about it at all. I think it’s a bit lazy from influencers to get all their information from just one Instagram account, especially the ones whose full time job is KZbin. Hence I like Beautynews and Hanna Louise Poston because they do talk about other (great) brands that are not necessarily on Trendmood. I bought the some items from the Pokemon collection from Shu Uemura because I saw it mentioned on the Beautynews channel and I love the eyeshadow palette. I bought my ultimate fav lip stain from Tony Moly because I saw it mentioned on Beautynews. I bought stuff from YesStyle because I saw them mentioned by Hannah, etc. I think in 2020 we will see a lot of beauty channels losing views because people want to see something different and not the same stuff everywhere. The way influencers say that brands should come up with something new, the way the KZbin audience expect the same from influencers. Sorry about the rant, just some food for thoughts. I feel like a lot of Colourpop releases ended up only getting two minutes of hype because there were just so many that people were moved on within a week of a release. Some stayed on the radar, like Sweet Talk and the main monochromatic palettes, but some, like the bird themed palletes and the Whatever palette, just seemed to disappear.

Oooh this is so interesting! I actually feel like the colourpop peach palette and huda tantour are two products I still keep seeing all the time! Neither are really for me but the tantour especially I've seen in a few 2019 favorites videos, funny how things can be so different depending who you watch 😊 for me the biggest flops were probably all of Haus Labs (oof) and the Huda setting spray that was basically hairspray 😬 lol!

I remember watching videos where people talked about the Madonna X Too Faced collab, and hearing that it would only be available for purchase at Madonna’s shows (during her 2019 tour) while supplies lasted. I thought it was kind of a weird move, because it sort of put it in the same realm as merch, but, speaking from experience, most t-shirts at concerts are a similar, if not higher, price to the bundles that Too Faced usually puts out (and at least a t-shirt, assuming you don’t change shirt sizes, will last you for more than a few years).

The only thing I really bought this year is the ABH Sultry palette, because I heard it might be discontinued. I wanted the nymph but I couldn’t afford it. I’m glad I didn’t though cause KKW put out that body makeup that is transfer resistant. I actually have a baked bronzer from Laura Gellar that I bought at Marshall’s for $7.99 and it is amazing on my legs! It covers uneven color and veins, for 8 bucks! It transfers a little, but I spray my legs down with setting spray and let them dry.

first thing that comes to mind is the fenty concealer! it got a ton of hype in the beginning due to excitement, but had mostly mediocre reviews and then after a couple of weeks i barely ever saw it mentioned again. also for me the jeffree star x morphe palette, and the norvina palettes were flops just based on colour story. i found them all to be scattered and random and disappointing.

Definitely agree with you on a lot of these (some I didn't know about- ooops lol) the urban decay GOT- felt like such a cash grab to me. There were quite a few Mac misses for me this year. When all the foundations were being released, Kat Von D released hers and nobody paid attention. Guess everyone really hates her. Seems like certain controversial makeup brands get a slap on the wrist while others are completely blacklisted. I actually purchased her new Lolita palette and love it!

Absolutely agree with you on all of these! I don’t watch Game of Thrones either, but I remember the looks you did with the palette were really pretty. I think it would have done better if they would have made it a set of 4 minis with more compact packaging and themed lids. It was way too big and bulky.
