It was capital of Turkish Kağanate in one period of its history, and it was vital city of Karakhanid Kağanate. Indian subcontinent had everything, so they didn't need to go out and conquer other lands. India is larger than half of Europe, we already had so much land and people so why conquer other lands. It was already hard to maintain an empire within India, how they will think about going to other places. All the invaders that came to India, permanently settled here and never left this place because they had everything they wanted here. Religion also played a major role in this because Hindus never forced and believed in converting others to their religion, so there was no religious motivation for them unlike most of the invading empires around the world.
