Maybe you intend to do it, it's good practice to put a double layer of timber on top of the walls overlapping the lower timber joints 11:55 to stiffen up the walls

Love it. Can't wait to see what you do with it. I spent 15 years moving my shop from garage to garage in rentals. The home we finally bought has a 30x40 shop and the room is AMAZING..... it's still full somehow. Enjoy and I love the videos!

Thanks! This is the largest workshop I've ever had and feels like I'll never fill it up, but I know better than to believe that. :) I'm really looking forward to having the space to set up my tools again instead of moving them around to use them.

You've done a nice job and included your son. Good teaching for you both. Having worked in construction I find these kinds of videos interesting. The blocks to catch the wall framing is a much better option than a lot I see. When people lift the walls and they slide they have to use their strength to both lift the wall and move move it in place at once, while keeping it from spinning. On our job site we would have the wall in place put 2 or 3 nails in at 45degrees at the edge this would act as a hinge. No sliding just right up in place.

You’re batting a 1000 Sam, great job. That Paslode nailer is pretty special,I’m guessing they are a sponsor (or should be). My shop is 25’ X 35’, and it sometimes feels small until I think about it, the trick - wheels on everything! Keep it up to dry in!!!!!

I bought the paslode nail gun right at three years ago when I built a new roof on our home. It's been one of those tools I don't use often, but has always worked flawlessly for me when I did! I don't have detailed layout plans for the workshop yet, but I'm sure they will develop over time as the build progresses and I spend time in there. I had better order a case of clocking swiveling caster wheels! I 100% agree to put them under everything. :)

I think you should have put a large door opening at the other end of framing, where it's open area if you need to put large items in or out using your tractor. The building on the other side doesn't give you much room for a tractor to maneuver. You do have some skills.

Looking awesome. Great space you are building. Can i just mention in regard to fire safety. You have the 2 doorways up the same end. I know you have the windows but, god forbid, if there was a fire, you have no exit if fire was blocking your exits. Maybe put a half size exit up the other end in the corner. Hope this makes sense. It did to me when i was talking to myself about it!!!

Yes! That's what the large doorway opening that faces my old workshop is for. :)

wonder if it would be worth the trouble to change the roof on the old shop , basicly rotate it a quarter turn and make the old and new shop one long roof like the carport , would cover the space between the old and new shop , might even be able to take out the small wall of the new shop on the side of the old shop and use the framing to basicly extend the long walls and the floor from the new shop up to the old shop making it one building with an inner dividing wall and gain another few feet of usealbe shop space using only a little more material (yeah you do have to redo the tops of the walls of the old shop and redo the rooftrusses and will have everything in the old shop out in the open while you convert it unless you start building the new roof on the far side of the new shop and store everything under there once youre halfway closed in)

I'm not a fan of roof mounts. It's very important to keep the panels clean and I know I wouldn't do that often enough if they're on a roof. I will be building a new ground mount array and installing many more solar panels when this build is done. I want to run this workshop and my business off grid as much as possible. :)

I ordered engineered trusses. I didn't trust my work to build a solid 20' span roof system. And the cost was really reasonable... around $1200 delivered for the 17 trusses.

Current pricing where I live puts a 2x6x8 over twice the cost of a 2x4x8, so it would have added quite a bit, yes. If I were building a home or home addition, I would do 2x6 exterior walls hands-down, but for a workshop I'll be okay with 2x4 walls. :)

Normally yes, for a free standing building. However, this will be connected to my current workshop with a very wide corridor to where my main entrance will be through that shop and into this one for any large items. The man door that faces the carport will be for when I go back and forth from there or to use whenever. :) That storage building at my mom's place... wow, that goes back MANY years!! :)
