my face and my body looked seperated based on the kibbe body types. and i thought i was just the only one... until i realized that the kibbe body types are very *euro-centric* (especially with facial features) and i'm asian. and so i take the facial features with a grain of salt. btw! i'm soft natural after much examining of my body. i hope that makes more sense! 🤞💕

Yes, and it’s a very old-school archetypical way of classifying types. Modern beauty standards value a more unique, fresh, and almost incongruent/paradoxical type of look. I feel like notable modern beauties have very mixed typing, with paradoxical essences thrown in. When you look at old Hollywood starlets, it’s a very structural and archetypical form of beauty standards. Nowadays what we know as “naturally pretty” always has a strong underlying essence that radiates from within. It’s not enough to just be technically “pretty.” According to kibble, you must purely honor your structural lines. It’s just not enough for our layered modern idealizations of beauty. Kibbie was brilliant in his original work.. but just like with anything, groundbreaking original ideas will get refined and reassessed with time into better understanding.

The types being euro centric is def a problem ive noticed, but I think it can be adgusted to not be so euro-centric. Ive seen different ppl type ppl differently and i notice that some ppl type in far more/less eurocentric ways than others. To me, the basics dont seem euro centric, but the specifics of how many ppl type often are. Same thing w color seasons.
@RuffiRaggaMuff8 ай бұрын
I also would add that if you look at your parents it’s a good indicator. How their lines have “mixed” have made you. I’m Mediterranean which means I’m European but I’m built a little different so I am too muscular and curvy for these charts. I still look at bone structure for clues.

Ugh, thank you so much for that video. I always thought Selena was a soft gamine because her face is so cute. And now I really understand why I personally look so different in oversized (more soft natural) clothes. People kept telling me I was too skinny when I wore those lines and whenever I wear soft gamine clothes, people are more likely to tell me I look great (yet they don't understand why I prefer that type of clothes). I think the untrained eye can still see if someone looks their best or a bit off but they can barely put their finger on the reason. They might just say "Oh you can wear anything, that's so unfair." and that's bugging me. I wish people could just see the beauty in themselves too. Every body type is amazing and is blooming in certain clothes or drowning/overpowered/looking off in other clothes. I really don't like the fact that there's this beauty standard that makes some people think they are not beautiful enough. That's basically just not true. Maybe you don't look too great in SN or R clothing but maybe you look amazing in D clothing, just try it out and embrace yourself.
@merriamstyle6 жыл бұрын
Yes! Thank you for your comment. This is why I tell people if you're confused between let's say gamine and romantic, simply try the different clothing recommendations and see which looks better (this is often easier than training your eye fully to see the lines of your body). People can usually tell if they look 'off' or if the clothing looks separate from them. :)

Yes, Everything you say! I'm a huge fan of people embracing their natural beauty, and pulling it off with systems like kibbe and coolour analysis. These systems don't care about trends, what colours and styles are in fashion that month. Mostly only catering to very specific people. Instead, they show that, with the right clothes/make-up/colours and whatelse, every woman (and man!) can look amazing. Whenever I talk about this, people also nag at me because I happen to be moderately pretty and skinny (skinny soft classic type and in between warm and soft autumn in seasonal colour analysis, sunlit soft autumn in Lora Alexander's colorbreeze system). But, hey! Black makes me look like a ghost, loose, oversized stuff makes me drown and look even more frail. (unless i's very soft, for cozyness, because that's nice...) With the wrong things, I can look terrible too. But I don't because I care to learn what looks good on me, and not what looks good on a flamboyant natural deep winter.

Finally! I think you nailed it. Other experts haven't put this together as you have. Even read somewhere to "dress the face" (and don't consider the body type??) Although this is complicated to figure out- it makes perfect sense. Notice that a smaller head makes the person appear taller. A larger head gives a shorter appearance (more doll-like) as Aly Art has pointed out. I really appreciate the work you've done on this. Thank you!

10:00 Selena looks so incredible in the black and white stripe shirt. There are very very subtle differences between Selena's outfit on the right and Sofia's on the left. Selena has no sleeves and more fitted pants, but that doesn't look bad nor does it fit with the Soft Natural type. The only thing I can think of that makes both of these outfits work for Selena is the color being carried from the top half to the bottom.

Whoever's right, one thing's for sure: It has something to do with softness (yin) but not straight up the romantic softness. Hope I helped. Don't take the test too seriously if you feel like SC or TR isn't your bodytype btw. Judge by yourself! I always thought of Selena Gomez as a Soft Gamine. Yeah, kibbe is confusing.
@clararivillo92556 жыл бұрын
I'm so confused. I took the test and came up as Soft Natural (I'm pretty sure it's right) , but I'm only 5 1' (1,55) and feel like a lot of SN clothes don't really compliment my hobbit height. Any help? :(
@merriamstyle6 жыл бұрын
romantic? for example, drew barrymore's bones may seem a little bit wider, and she may look a little bit wider, and this can be mislabeled as Natural bones but really since her bones are short, they are romantic bones. how do you look in romantic clothing? Another option is soft gamine. Also, you could try my video titled 'Confused by the Kibbe test, try this', where I talk about how to find your kibbe type through clothes.

@@merriamstyle I have just seen the video you mention and.. I'm getting to the conclusion that I'm just a very short soft natural and clothes are usually made for taller people, that is why almost every piece of clothes is freaking long on me. I don't think romantic fits me as I don't have an hourglass figure (small hips, slightly defined waist, small boobs) and my bone structure is definitely blunt. Also I think I look a bit manly on romantic clothes. I can definitely get away with some G outfits but not all, sometimes they make me feel too childish. Thank you for your response, your videos are great! 😊

I came up as Soft Classic and I am your height too. I think because of the height Soft Gamine probably works best for both of our situations.

Soft naturals can be short! I am 5"3 and just understood after one year of kibbe study (!!) That I was a soft natural. I wish I never heard that only gamine can be small because it really isn't true. You must be a soft natural too!

Hi, sorry that my question is not related to the vid, but can a Gamine wear Soft Gamine clothes and still look somewhat okay?
@Phoenix333Rising5 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that yes, it would look ok, as it's the same family of lines. You just wouldn't look your absolute best.

thank you! some authors mantion Ingenue type - so confusing! :) however, I do feel theatrical romantic clothes look best on me.
@idamathildesalvesen73666 жыл бұрын
I have heard about Inguene and actually Merriam has a video about it her on her channel. It`s another theory. Not Kibbe`s, but I think some people both can be a Kibbe-type and Inguene, Angelic etc.

sure! it's getting clearer now. thank you.

if they are all D then you're a pure theatrical romantic if there is a mixture in the answers then check aly art video . for example i have a mixture of C and E answers and i am a soft classic.

I always get between 57 to 69 which doesn’t have a kibbe body type! Any advice for someone like me? What if you don’t fall into one of the 13 types?

So I think the SN face did match her body, but the gamine's face did not. Is it therefore safe to say that having a mismatch in face and body is squarely a gamine thing?
@taritangeo49485 жыл бұрын
I mean if ur face is B and body is A you won't be a gamine. Ur a gamine of your features are one both sides of the spectrum: a,b / d,e

This is super helpful. My face is obviously gamine but my body is a mix of A, C, and D answers and I'm 5'9." NO answers in E or B. I'm not sure if I'm flamgam or dramatic classic. Either lines seem to work for me.

Merriam Style I did!! I have a lot of A answers but look bad in dramatic lines and am clearly not soft dramatic. That leaves DC and FG. Are you saying that if you look better in broken lines and fun patterns that makes you a FG?
@unneighborlyarcades63565 жыл бұрын
@@peggy-sue-reads-a-book I find it is helpful to divide oneself into 3 parts: Skeleton (including jaw), facial features (including nose and cheekbones) and flesh (of the body). To give an example: I am a flamboyant gamine. My skeleton is A-dominant, my flesh is A-dominant, and my facial features are E/D dominant. So, I have a sharp yang skeleton and yang flesh with a yin face. This matches with the description in the test: "...Your bone structure and body type (flesh) should be Yang-dominate while your features and stature are Yin-dominate. Your facial bones will be from the strong, Yang side. " The test says this about dramatic classics: "...Your body type (flesh) and features should be primarily balanced between the extremes of Yin and Yang while your bone structure should be more Yang-influenced. " I hope this was helpful.

@Unneighborly Arcades, yes it was! I went back to the test and now think I’m just a lanky TR, since that’s what I scored.

Andromache Rey thanks a lot !!!
@merriamstyle6 жыл бұрын
A soft natural in general will look ok in any natural clothing because that's their subtype. Same for soft gamine--will look ok in gamine and flamboyant gamine clothing because those are all the gamine type. But for a gamine, maybe she wouldn't look as good in theatrical romantic clothing because that's now the romantic type and not the gamine type. Hope that makes sense! The same logic applies to naturals, and all other types. :)
