The sunset extreme does sounded more treble, but that's to be expected. Since it doesn't have a tone knob, which means less loading on the pickups and a higher resonance peak.

While the same guitar can sound different from one another, i think the bridge contributed to the overall tone in a more significant way. If the svss had the same solid brass hard tail bridge you'd have a more meaningful comparison. I personally love the hard tail configuration because of the sustain and frequency response. With the same bridge on both guitars you'd be hearing more the wood differences and pickups/electronics influence on the tonal recipe

I considered both of these and now have the Super Shredder Exotic -- I definitely think it's got better articulation, but maybe at the cost of some low end, it takes some coaxing to get a thicker metal rhythm tone out of it than the Sunset Extreme imo, but I think that's what it's for, more lead activity and classic rock than modern chugging. The SVSS seems WAY superior in versatility though, it's got warmer cleans and you can get very varied sounds out of either humbucker or the single coil and parallel neck settings. It just feels...sharper to me?

Yeah one is definitely warmer than the other like you say the svss is more of a progressive rock or modern rock ax

I will be ordering the Sunset 6 extreme later today or tomorrow morning..I had a strange experience with a Reaper 6 and sent it back..hoping for better luck with the Extreme because I have owned 4-5 Schecters and they were the most reliable guitars out of the many different brands I have owned before. I thought about a Super Shredder model but currently have 4 guitars with Floyds and just want a fixed bridge model...Thanks for the excellent demo Neil.

Honestly just love schecter. I have 3 of them are they are the most reliable guitars. Wish more companies had that business model. Quality at every price range!

I can confidently say that the difference is 90% the bridge. I own several trem/floyd equipped guitars from ESP Japan, J Custom Ibanez, PRS Core and USA Jackson and Fender and none of them even with upgraded tone blocks come close to the wider frequency of my Tune o matic equipped Schecter from my teenage years that cost me $400. You can upgrade tone blocks, saddles and even block the trem and it may get closer but it’ll always have a “thinner” higher frequency than a hard tail. The rest can come down to slight differences in construction and wood type/age. Some guitars just sound dead and don’t resonate, some are dang near acoustics.

Yeah I kind of agree Tune o matic bridge’s definitely always seem to sound fuller I always think it’s to do with the space around the string to resonate and vibrate,I’m also quite a big believer in that every guitar sounds different even if it’s the exact same model 👍

I have two guitars way more similar both with Floyd’s that sound completely different My 2 dk2 are like light and different I might do a demo with those as well eventually

The sunset extreme definitely sounded like it cut more and had more brightness and mids

As always, nice riffage! Both sound great and I agree with your observation... the Extreme sounded like it had a little more presence. I know many argue over "tonewoods" and whether they do or don't affect electric instruments, so I'm not going down that rabbit hole... but I would argue that the bridge - in this case a hardtail verses a tremelo, as well as direct mounted pickups verses pickups on a pickguard (and the route underneath the pickguard) can impact the tone.

Yes tbh I think that guitars just sound different regardless of everything,I’ve had two amps that sound different that were the same model too

Measure the distance from the string contact on the bridge to the pole pieces on the bridge pickup. W/ that floyd rose it looks like the pickup is sittings a little bit farther, which is just a more subtle effect you get with the location of neck pickups. That would explain that change in the treble for sure. The other being that the floyd rose having less direct contact with the body, but I would say thats less of an effect compared to the pickup placement. Also really appreciate you tried to keep the pickup heights equal!

Yeah I remember years ago when bridge pickups used to be much further back and nearer the bridge then a few brands moved them up and this happened a lot with Charvel’s and Jackson’s

The Sunset-6 has a significant low E buzz in the clean test, unlike the clarity of the Exotic.

Hi Neil, I've been struggling to make a choice between these two guitars for a month! There definitely is a difference in clean tone for me. The Exotic in switch position 1 (bridge) sounds like a Sunset in 3. Not to be critical, wondering if you tried adjusting the tone control of the Exotic while in position 1 while playing clean? Would you miss the Floyd if you could only have one guitar?

I always miss Floyd’s well it’s actually this locking nut I miss the most The super shredder is a better instrument not quite as easy or fast to play though

I'm OK with nyotah and maple instead of limba and wenge, but I don't know about no tone control on a guitar and no tremolo bridge over the long term. Perhaps a strategy for those like me on the fence would be to inquire about renting an Sunset for a month before buying.

I know I stand alone but to me the Extreme sounds way more dull with gain. I have the Extreme myself and compared to my C1 Apocalypse it's the same... Best regards
