Sam - This has become one of three go-to sailing channels for me (one of the other two being Erik Anderaa on NBJS). As with Erik’s approach, I appreciate the way that you just get on with it and that very little rattles you. It’s amazing how many channels feature sailors fretting over ‘weather windows’ and trying to avoid any weather adversity. I learned early in my sailing life to just avoid the big weather issues and deal with the rest as it presents itself. Doing otherwise takes the enjoyment out of it, does nothing to improve your skill and test your limits, and keeps you onshore. No fun in that. Keep doing what you do. It’s great content. Thanks.

Just a recommendation -- Now is the time to practice with a sea anchor and a drogue. You won't be able to hove to in all conditions in the Atlantic. And I imagine you may already be starting to realize that the wind forecasts are mostly BS. The secret is that weather services mostly focus on temps and precipitation because that's what most people care about. Love the channel, Sam!

You talked about Oregon Inlet and Hatteras as well as Ocracoke but I couldn't figure out what you settled on. I sail in the Chesapeake and have thought about sailing down to NC but there are a ton of shallows. It is sort of the graveyard of the east coast. Also I guess you sort of bypassed the entire eastern shore, granted not like there are many ports (if any). Anyway great video thanks!

Kudos, Sam! You are a better many than I! I wouldn't have done Ocean City Inlet, NJ at night by myself - but I used to live in Cape May, so I would have had to plan on spending a lay day there. It is the best inlet of the entire Jersey Shore. I was surprised you were considering Oregon Inlet; I would be wary on a calm summer day! Look forward to projects. I think that weight forward and bimini both hurt performance upwind. I might rethink your companionway, too. Perhaps rig your doors so that companionway slides can be inserted inside the doors for offshore sailing when you need to be water tight. You will need a spot right next to companionway to store/stack the slides when you are entering/exiting, and they need to be tied to the boat so they can't fall out or get lost in a knockdown.
