She's a nice boat. I lived on a boat for a couple of years ages ago.....loved it. Except for the head. I had that thing out on the slip every couple of weeks cleaning the salt crystals out of the valves and diaphragms so it would actually flush! Still, the gentle rocking of the boat in the middle of the night when the tide came in or out, the barking of the sea lions, the drone of the fog horn in the distance; wonderful memories. Love your channel, and looking forward to your next adventure.

My 77 Bristol also has barrel type bronze thru-hulls. I ordered a maintenance kit from Spartan Marine for the original bronze sea cocks that were all seized. Be careful removing the internal barrel valve. Use a wood block or something to keep from damaging the soft bronze when tapping the barrel valve out. I followed the kit's included directions. Using the lapping compound was easy and effective. Used the grease in the kit, and with monthly maintenance operation, the 40 plus year old valves continue to function flawlessly. BTW that little bronze handle for the valve costs almost 60 dollars to replace.

Not sure of your background, but you seem to know what you are doing. You are knowledgeable and not just taking a stab at it. You also have a basic boat that matches up with the boat most folks are actually going to own. I would be very suspicious of seacocks with the green on the outside. Mine turned out to be riddled with dezincification. I had a eutectic system non return valve like that. Cleaned it up nice, replaced the seals and then watched it sweating water under pressure. Nice set of sails!

that first thru hull should have a backing block, as they all should...next time you haul out. the disconnected hose looks like a blower for getting engine fumes to a stern vent. sam...tank is FULL...NOT LEAKING...the hose is leaking...the one you 'destroyed'. don't take out that nice tank, just change the hose. really nice boat...she's a great design for the sea. check your keel bolts! keep a sharp eye on the roller furling gear...all of it. the furling lines chafe and are under great stress in sudden squalls when you need to furl some sail. the furlers themselves are prone to damage from wear, and trying to get the sail down in seas and wind is a nightmare that can be avoided or minimized by religious lubrication and care to the furling gear. there are two choices with the toilet...one - rebuild kit...messy! two - new toilet...preferable. buy the best toilet you can afford! keep a spare bucket for the purpose to use when the toilet is unusable, or at sea. if i was going long distance on that boat, i would invest in a water pump and hose coming from that small area behind the cockpit...especially since you will have the power to run it. nice to have pressure water for showering, cleaning, and cooling down the decks in tropical heat. i look forward to following your adventure, and wish you the best! i hope you will be ready to head away from the mainland soon...the bahamas are home to bottlenose dolphins in an area of shallow sand banks that i would die to visit if i was where you are now!

Great video I like the interjection of fins in the marina. I agree that your fuel tank is probably ok and it is probably a hose or spillage. There are some good videos on pressure testing fuel tanks.
@philgray10234 жыл бұрын
Good advice on the head. Maintenance kit for a Raritan is $180. TMC head complete is $179. Also the furler. Being on a boat with a jammed furler is the absolute pits, losing a furling line never happens when the wind is under 10 knots. Getting a sail in by hand in 20 knots is a battle that results in torn sails or uv strip at least.
