i saw Samia in concert on a whim in the city last february because i knew the band that was opening for her and this was the first song she sang. hearing this song live genuinely shook me to my core. i'd never heard it before, nor did i know what it was called, but it stuck with me to the point where when i got home it was the first one from her tracklist that i needed to find. it is the most gut wrenching and heartbreaking song i've ever heard, vulnerable and beautiful. i love it with my whole soul.

The bravery and strength it took to release this is unimaginable. Samia didn't even try to hide herself behind a bunch of instruments. She's front and center, telling a story that we shouldn't have the privilege of knowing. Listening to this for the first time and slowly realizing what the track is about is heartbreaking. The ending "no, no, no" is the twist of the knife. Thank you for your vulnerability on this track.

Would be exponentially better if she didn’t hide behind auto-tune and just sang for real.
@karladrianza5825 Жыл бұрын
@@allthecommonsense the autotune was intentional. she explained/shared a fan’s interpretation of the song about how after something really traumatic, it’s often a response to freeze up or go void of emotion/robotic when retelling it to avoid feeling everything that comes with processing it fully, so it’s adding the layer of how difficult it is to retell trauma and the ways we cope with it. she has a great voice and doesn’t use it in most of her music! just an artistic choice :)

@@benhartweaver9276 it may not be good to you in a typical musical sense, but everything she chooses to do in this song is there for a reason. its not supposed to be an enjoyable song, but it is an incredible piece and successfully portrays the hurt she was experiencing. this is poetry in song form

For her age it’s unbelievable how much she’s developed her sound. Younger artists tend to get somewhat understandably scared into sounding a bit more like everyone else and usually end up losing ‘their’ voice and making utterly forgettable - even if occasionally catchy or fun - drivel. Also - whoever does her production and mixing is crazy good. Not bad for Peggy Hill’s daughter!
