6v6 was never coming back the moment they made the decision to change the format back in 2019 when OW2 development started. People not like Samito understood this from the get-go. Blizzard finally had to come out and say what most of us already knew, 6v6 is gone for good. It would take many years of undoing their reformat reworks on ow1 heroes, and reworking all OW2 heroes (who were designed entirely with one tank mind).

For me it was the queue times that sucked. A lot of the time in OW1 I had to sit in a 12 minute queue for a 10 minute game as DPS. Now my avg. queue time is around 6 minutes at least

6v6 wasn't working either which is why they switched to 5v5 in the first place. The root of the problem is the design of tanks. Their kits are all about ruining fun for other people, rather than doing anything interesting themselves. Tanks need a complete rework.

Yeah he was right about the game in 2018 too. The way I see it this whole 5v5 is the final culmination of the devs trying to make the game braindead. Instead of reconsidering the trash hero designs they added that broke the game, they doubled down on it and switched formats so they wouldn’t have to address it. Going back to 6v6 allows us to fix the broken hero designs but 5v5 forces all the reactionary changes they’ve done every patch and even faster power creep. Just don’t make the shield poke tanks better at brawl than the brawlers and add stuff like inspire/lamp and the game is fine in 6v6. We’ve finally getting to the point they may have to turn the ship around after 6 years…

If Zarya was not in the game Dva would be borderline GAMEBREAKING even before these buffs, and yet the buffs do NOTHING to make Dva have a better matchup against beams! The tank life can be simplified by saying: In 6v6 you faced 6 CC's and focus shared with another tank In 5V5 you face 5 CC's and focus all alone. You can add as much health, Armor, hell even damage as you want but the main part about tank that makes it not fun is the CC and counter picking which forces you to play hero's you don't want to play every game. I mean, how would DPS feel if by some weird quirk the only hero you could do anything on by the end of a match was Symmetra or something not fun to play. How many of you would enjoy a game that forces you to have to play something you don't want to play to have any value on?

The stronger you make the tanks the more important it becomes to counter pick them because they are the biggest threat: the powerhouse, frontline, and playmaker for the enemy team. The best hero pick m strategy for stopping the enemy team is to make a pick to limit the effectiveness of the most dangerous player on the enemy team.

Yes, incredible how the cleaners in the Blizzard building left to balance OW2 don't get it 😂. Things need to die, including tanks. The more you buff tanks mindlessly, the worse the 1v1 counterswap issue is as tanks matchups are so unbalanced Vs each other, like roadhog Vs Winston. The zarya changes alone are atrocious. Tank is less fun to play (tried 2 games of this patch only time I played this season, that's enough!) If I have to spell it out for you Bliz (why do I have to). Back to 6v6, turn tanks to "brawlers" so you don't get sued, tanks back to OW1 health pools, reduce all large tanks size a little, revert health pools, then try a global healing nerf, and ensure armour is in a good place and all tanks have a little (apart from hog). Remove the immos, max anti heal to 75% apart from ults. Fix brain-dead healbot only heroes, redesign mauga. Test from there. Tanks will die, they can rotate so not 1 tank taking all the damage. Things should die in the game if they make poor decisions, not saved by immos or infinite healing, then you don't need the DPS passive, which is another plaster on another symptom. Cmonnn it shouldnt be this hard!!

OW1 had counterpicking, even in the tank role, but it was no where near as egregious and powerful as it is in the OW2 tank role. Whether you counter a counter can be game deciding. It's utterly insane.

Classic Blizzard. The community had to force them to do Classic by creating a massive private server. Until Nost, it was all 'You think you do, but you don't'. Classic basically carried that franchise for the past 5 years. It's the same thing here, they'll run this franchise into the ground unless the shareholders force them to do otherwise. I remember that i once posted on the OW forums, that 7vs7 would make more sense than 5vs5 to reduce dps queue times. I got downvoted and flamed into oblivion. I stated that going to 1 tank would not be good for gameplay, and that youd lose a ton of the dynamics in gameplay. I stated that a 3rd dps would also benefit healers giving them more things to do. And here we are.....ive played OW2 for 2, maybe 3 seasons. I cant even remember the last time that i touched this game. Maybe a year ago? They lost me when they bamboozled us all when they promised a "sequel" and just charged everyone more money for a stripped down dlc without most of their selling points. Hell, i bought Destiny 2 last August just to have a fps fix.

So even though I agree with him, the fact that he said “this game is a moba” it’s kind of silly because the game was more of a moba when it was six or six and the reason for that is because it required more team play that’s also the reason why they went to five verse five because the entire community in overwatch one collectively said the game is too complicated so blizzard went from 66 to 5 v 5 because it’s less complicated and more open. The problem with it being more open and having one tank lover is what we’ve been seeing Keeler’s are easy to kill so they had to be buffed and then they were over buffed and then to make sure they didn’t have to over buff them. They gave them unique abilities that made them get out of many situations. Then the whole situation you have to keep swapping you don’t have a choice because you usually lose just not fun . I understand totally why they went to fiber five because of the reasons I listed above the community was very upset that the game was too complicated and it gave rise to things like double shield, etc. however, five verse five has its own problems and they seem to be less fixable than six or six so maybe we do go back to six or six and realize the game is more of a moba because it was when it was six or six and the game was way more complicated because you had to compensate for both the enemy tanks, individual abilities, and then your team had to compensate for your tanks, not listening to each other and using their abilities together because everyone is idiotic that plays this game. either way there needs to be major fixing no matter what they decide to do and they just don’t know how to do it.

I've been a tank player for 7 years... This is honestly not even close to a solution. These patches directed at tanks are not the correct way to "fix" the role. When you were able to queue up with your tank duo and practice set plays, synergy etc, that was what made Tank actually fun to play. With only 1 tank, there is too much pressure on that solo tank which forces the dev team to buff every single tank to fit the 5v5 environment. Some tanks only got minor changes to better support the team (Zarya 1 extra Bubble) but that doesn't instantly make them fit into that format. Systematic changes need to be made to make this 5v5 format work (not power creep or passives. Actual reworks) or maybe we bring back the Fall 2020 patch and give us 6v6👌 One seems a lot easier

I've said this before and I'll say it again, regardless of 5v5 or 6v6 they need to REMOVE ALL PASSIVE ABILITIES! Passives need to be applied on a hero by hero basis if at all.

I remember seeing someone from blizzard say that que times were at least one motivating factor for 5v5 (no I can't be arsed to look up who or when or where) though I'm also not sure I'll take their word for it. Whatever the case, 6 minutes is a long AVERAGE que time for such short games and games where your agency as an individual is so low. 6 minutes on average means that if you stray a bit from average que times you're looking at 15 minutes and then 30+ very fast. I remember seeing streamers sitting in que for 2+ hours and this is with the other bs they tried. Like didn't they try to give you a premium pass thing for dps to "cut in line" if you suffered through playing tank for a few games. Also 6 minutes average what? What time of day? What day of the week? What region? What platform? You need more specific parameters to have that mean anything. If only you have access to that data it is really easy to show only a glimpse that will spin whatever narrative you want. I personally am not an "XvX:er" in any way. I checked out and uninstalled a long time ago and my interest in any of this is out of sheer morbid curiosity. Same as with star wars or marvel or other such media. Watching the shitstorm around the thing is far more interesting than engaging with the media itself. Personally I have held the opinion since the very beginning of overwatch 1 that tank and support aren't ever going to be near the popularity of damage. Most people who log on to an fps game want to shoot enemies. Simple as. To think the player base will be evenly split in 3 categories of players who want to shoot enemies, shoot teammates and get shot but not die is an insane utopia. The tank "fantasy" also doesn't work in pvp games because human players won't shoot the tanky guy who won't die, they will shoot the squishy guy who will die. I also think this is the reason the categories are getting more homogenous.

The cardiac overdrive was a nerf 100%. For 3 seconds yeah mauga COULD be unkillable, but against rein all rein has to do is hold shield for only 3 seconds now instead of the full 5 and he has buffed shield health, dva can DM for the entire duration of mauga ult and net it 0 value, sigma grasp lasts for 2/3rds of the duration and usually a mauga would have to walk past his shield first to even get a shot at doing it, which in those 2 seconds shield can come back up off cooldown. Orisa also has an eat / fortify ignores crits still making it less effective and spear can negate some of the duration, ball can outrun it, winston gets kinda shafted but winston is never diving a mauga anyway, queen is too small and because of her increased lifesteal is probably just gonna be going head to head with a mauga anyway and they'll both be unkillable, zarya has increased bubble hp and will get giga charged if mauga tries to pop it and his decreased overdrive duration will make him vulnerable to her max charge beam if he tries, etc. Unironically the only tanks i think he legitimately gets a benefit against is PROBABLY hog, doomfist and ramattra. Everyone else can easily negate 3 seconds of his overdrive which would force the mauga players to actually need to use a braincell at the very least.

I think role queue was the first mistake, beyond hero balance issues in 6v6. I just don't know how they could've managed the way open queue pushes gameplay in a casual direction, when it comes to competitive modes, but that feels like a much smaller issue compared to what we're facing now in 5v5.
