So I think the cashier at the beginning is supposed to represent how hard/frustrating it can be to find someone or find a healthy growing relationship. Once they get the bonsai the store keeper from the Still Broke MV says “This is your heart, listen to it, take care of it”. After there’s some miscommunication between the two people the bonsai dies a little so he decides to throw it away and buy a new plant. Once she realizes he threw away the bonsai she gets angry because he gave up and didn’t tell her. (“The only way your going to grow is if you work together”) The bonsai represents the heart of their relationship since they didn’t take care of it (by communicating) it didn’t grow.

As soon as I saw the bonsai I made the like to it being in still broke. He kept her dead heart cause he still loves her which contrasts when he threw it in the bin but that was the point of no return for the relationship. Damn. Poetic.
