congratulations Sam and May with Yugo, i have a tip for your welding that you can use to improve your welds even though they are already starting to look great , if you find a place selling pre cut pieces of metal of different thicknesses to practice your welds on, your skill will improve alot and i am loving the abandoned s15 restoration and daiki is a great addition to the channel

hi sam a little trick with the black stone gaurd deadener put the cans in a bucket of warm water about 40 degrees c and let sit for about 10 minutes shaking them periodically they will spray on better and dry quicker and last a bit longer i am a panel beater and do this all the time cheers from down under

just a reminder after doing your rust patches and painting underseal go back through and to future proof the chassis. in places you can get to spray cavity wax.. loving the videos keep up the good work and congrats on the new arival

Sam for future reference it is actually good practice to paint everything you grind and behind those weld in plates with weld through primer so they don't remain bare steel. Once welded it can be hard to paint behind them. Same goes for welding in panels and seams

The wax stuff is for once you finished painting and put it back to get her it stops moisture sitting in the areas

Hey Sam, I have an idea for what you can do once your welds get really good. When your welds get perfect you work towards getting a welding certification. I think it would be really cool if you got one so you could do a lot of your own shop repairs!

Correct me if I’m wrong. The Zinc in that primer is for welding. Gives it something to slow current though and then is helps keep the welds clean on the inside to avoid rusting. Not to spray over rust to keep it from rusting. I believe that is a different coating altogether

You need some Cavity Wax spray for the inner portions of the frame rails and other areas where water and debris collect

One last bit of rust repair advice from someone who worked in a body shop for a while, spray some of that body wax in the framerails to protect as much in there as possible. That's where the rust will start now, so if you can stop it there you'll be safe for a long time.

Dont grind down your welds. On bodywork yes, because its for looks. But strenght wise don't grind it down on the subframe.

@15:16 next best thing, after getting the boot on, is to stuff teh boot full of HIGH TEMP grease, taht wasy the metal on metal hyme joint is always lubricated and protected with dust boot from road debry and moisture

Weld through primer on sub frame before reinforcement will stop rust under reinforcement plate. There will be bare metal underground
