Not surprising considering how prices have been post covid. No one should be paying 20k+ for a GTST, and 40k+ for a Gtr or a Jzx, especially considering you can get something modern with maybe 98% of the enjoyment, and 2% of the headaches, for roughly the same price. Prices of anything export-worthy in Japan are increasing fast enough to offset the falling value of the yen. Sellers are essentially pricing them at their $USD/EU/AU equivalent value in yen. I bought a RA25GT Celica from Japan about 10 years ago for ¥1.2m and I've seen similar cars advertised for more than ¥5m recently. Anything non-export worthy seems cheap to us, but its still expensive to them due to zero wage growth in the last 30 years. So the only people seeing bargains are foreigners bringing their strong dollar with them to Japan.

These cars are no bargain at all (to ship to the US). You have to add Japan buyer's fees (if any), inland shipping to port, export papers, transatlantic shipping+insurance, US customs (paperwork and duty), US inland shipping, state inspection/certification where it's registered, state tax, and it's still a right hand drive car - which is a disadvantage on several levels. Insurance is surely to be HIGHER, as the car doesn't show up in Carfax or in the car insurance database when they plug in the VIN, so it has no verifiable history in the US.

I have an R34 and Audi Q3 here currently, I'll send the R34 back to the US with me once I go back home but will likely just junk the Q3 because it's not worth the effort of trying to sell used and it's not valued high enough for me to care.

I look at “Goo net” and “car from Japan” as a reference but I’m sure there’s other sites that people know and trust

Just a thirst trap. 20k for a bad condition FD is not a good price at all. I've seen restored FC for 8k

I was at so many of these tuners. I like looking at these cars. But I dont accept these prices. Long time in the JDM scene, i just dont get it. Driving a fully built MR2 turbo - i dont see the benefit from a "performance vs price" viewpoint. I went for a second car that is a BMW M2C, maybe has not that style, but I fly loopings arroound these old JDM cars. Plus I can blast to Hockenheim, make a full track day, and drive home without shit breaking. Dont get me wrong, I love JDM cars, but man keep your common sense! You mention cars to be "not too bad" that I see as complete crap.
