The older I get and the more I study music the more this man's work means to me; it always touched my heart, but the technical expertise, the use of slurs and bent notes the man used his voice like a horn. I miss him so much.

It is astonishing that he could still perform like this despite a lifetime of hard work and struggle. He had throat cancer when this was recorded and passed away about 8 months later. One of the all time greats.

His gift to us is a gift that we can never repay. How can words begin to describe his contribution to society. This man truly loved to share his gift and we are better for it. I honestly wish he could have been on this earth much longer just so we could have more blessed memories of him.

I saw him live in Sydney in the 1970s. He was more than even the high expectations. He was 'Mr Entertainment'. The standing ovation at the end was thunderous and everyone had a feeling they had experienced a special occasion and some-one special.

I remember for many decade the Jerry Lewis MD telethon was something we waited a year to watch for 3 days. 2r hrs a day. What talent was on that stage. The MD children made my eyes leak so badly. It tore at your heart. My children went door to door collecting money and on Sunday we would drive them up to the Des Moines Studio and they would turn it in to the local telethon. Jerry was so full of energy. Trying to stay up the whole time. ED McMahon would EC for few hours so Jerr u could rest a bit and change clothes, freshen up to close the show and sing " You'll never Walk Alone".... the truck drivers ( teamsters union)...7 up....and firefighters/ law enforcement units came from all over to give millions. And Budweiser. Was among so many huge groups to give in person....teachers unions...etc. it was best thing happening on Labor Day Weekend. We watched it in 62 when we first married....and every year until Jerry's health got too bad decades later. He always had his sweet wife Patti there for support. Then he divorced and had the much younger wife Susie there. Miss the telethon , the great entertainment on stage and the comedy. I remember when Frank brought Dean out to revonsile with Jerry. That was moving. Jerry looked at him and said..." So , you working???" Ha. 💞🎤

The adaptation of the original lyric makes him sound very dodgy. "I took her childhood in my stride, but I was gone when autumn came". I cannot help thinking that someone should have thought harder about how to turn this into a male singer's song.
