The fact that they had Taz, Hook’s own father, calling the match too was special. You can hear the glimpses in Taz’ voice as he goes from professional announce desk person to a concerned and worried father, back to trying to be professional again and call the match. Great work AEW.

9:22. “Stand him up. We’re playing his music”. Excalibur said Hangman gave HOOK his props. Hangman didn’t do it, Joe did. After he got backstage. Tony told the cameraman in his ear piece because Joe asked him to. That’s an endorsement from Joe. Class act by the Champion. HOOK’s gonna be a World Champion someday. It was just not today.

Awesome match. Joe is a freaking legend. Not just this match made him look as dangerous as always, but he makes Hook look tough as hell. Hook is paying his dues and evolving. I can see Hook not just being a champion, but being a future legend, far away in the future. I can see him doing that. Step by step. Brick by brick. He is not advancing steps. He is not too lazy. He knows his skills and he is working on them. And btw, AWESOME commentary. Made me feel the match. Sells the match PERFECTLY. Not just the part Taz getting off for a minute (which was awesome), but all the commentary made the match look legit. Made me care about it. Dunno if they gonna read this (probably not) or care about it, but Joe, Hook, Taz, Excalibur and Tony, thank you. As a long time pro wrestling fan, I truly enjoyed every single bit of it.

It was like that, if instead of raising his hand taker just kept beating him. Which makes sense, they want Joe to be a heel so I like the way they had Hangman and Swerve show up to send Joe away. It was a smart way to protect him, have him get up and ask for more, then have Joe get sent off before he attacks again to leave the question open of how much more punishment could hook take. They could very easily use that for a rematch down the line, I won't be surprised if we see Hook vs Joe round 2. Both guys came out of this match looking super strong, especially HOOK.

this was one of those career defining matches that AEW has come to be known for with its young talent. Joe made Hook look not only like an absolute beast, but Hook himself showed out in a way that we knew was there in him. the pure underdog storytelling for Hook was brilliant because Joe was someone he's never faced. it was no doubt something of a humbling experience for him as well. he's got it all now and within a few years he'll be someone AEW can put up as a world champion. from a Reddit/Twitter meme to a legitimate star in the making in the last 3 years. the post match stuff was brilliant as well, Hook just not backing down even after getting hit with another muscle buster. and the Hangman respect too? dude's a star forsure.

Neither guy gained a thing from this match, as good as it was. Hook, a guy they booked as a world beater up until this point, is suddenly supposed to be some tough-as-nails underdog who gets the crap kicked out of him and just gets back up? And the fact that he basically no-sold Joe’s offense during the final sequence, what did that do for Joe, and what’s that mean for Hangman Page and Swerve? If Hook took 2 muscle busters, an urange on the table, a powerbomb on the apron, a DVD, passed out in the Koquina Clutch AND WALKED OUT UNDER HIS OWN POWER, you can’t have Hangman or Swerve come out without eating that and doing the same thing, lest the logic is that Hook is tougher than either of them or Joe is just weak.
