Nice!!!! Faia Pilikaki is what we call it and it’s just coconut milk and drained mackerel from the can, salt and pepper and some onions too but I love putting minced garlic in it. But I always make sure I get the bone out from the mackerel. Keep it up!!! I’m just here drooling and wishing I can just grab those food just out from the screen 😆😆😆

Malo Joe, quick fix when you don't have fa'alifu or enough pe'epe'e, use your talo to scoop your luau. Also uso, try eating with your hands, it the Samoan way. It’s the octopus’s peak man they should’ve leave it out. I love faiai 🐙 but not in a traditional way of prepping it. Try bake it in tin pan it will be more appealing to the eye 😂 but yeah it’s not everyone’s favorite. 👍👍👍

@@JAMilyTV lau pele is the indigenous mallow leaves that grow there, mallow is related to hibiscus or 'aute, and okra, it's prepared like palusami, and pa'a is crab. Crab is so delicious when boiled in coconut milk and ginger then chilled.....especially in a hot day!!!

@@JAMilyTV ask the people at the market, or people in the village, some people just have them growing in thier gardens or in thier plantations. Lau pele was really used when the taro blight hit hard and good luau were hard to come by. But it's usually prepared at home, just like you would palusami, or lupulu, or any other dish with taro leaves. Here in Seattle the Sāmoan variety is hard nearly impossible to come by, so I just use the ones found in the Asian market, it tastes exactly the same just the leaves are a bit smaller. My Mom is Korean so we also eat them in soups.
