Angel Reese has never been shy about speaking her mind, and in response to the perception that the WNBA's profile is rocketing upward because of Caitlin Clark, the Chicago Sky forward had something to say in a since-deleted post on X on Thursday night.
“And that’s on getting a WIN in a packed [arena] not just cause of one player on our charter flight. #SKYTOWN,” Reese posted after the Sky’s 90-81 win over the New York Liberty.
Two prominent male athletes this week spoke up in defense of Clark after the Indiana Fever guard has faced criticism as she begins her professional career.
On his podcast this week, LeBron James said, "Caitlin Clark is the reason why a lot of great things is gonna happen for the WNBA."
During Wednesday night's "Inside the NBA" show, Charles Barkley said players should be "thanking" Clark for the league getting charter flights for road games, and he brought up "all the money and visibility she's bringing to the WNBA."
But while Clark deserves some credit for helping bring new fans and attention to the league, Reese made sure to point out in her pregame media availability Thursday that there's more than one star in this season's WNBA rookie class.

Feels like there's no end to the potshots people are taking at CC, and she's never stooped to that level, ever. She's been respectful of past players, current players, women's basketball, and tried to be inspiring to young people around the country, despite all that's being spewed about her. This is such a miserable look for the WNBA. This season was supposed to be a big celebration of women's basketball and giant leap forward for the league, due to -- fact alert -- the nationwide excitement generated by CC's game. But no, it turned into a pathetic petty party.

@@justme9794She isn't struggling to win games. The whole team is. You have to remember that 1. Clark has been playing non stop since October. She is in her 8th month of a 12 month season more or less. So she's pretty fatigued at this point and is still putting up double digits. 2. The Fever got 1st pick in the draft because they were the worst team last year. They are the most inexperienced team in the league this season. I think they only have two players with 4 or more years experience They will be lucky to win 50% of their games this season, unless Clark drags them kicking and screaming like she did with Iowa during her career

I would agree with ALMOST everything. You're younger, I get it. But I watched Bird, Maravich, Nash, Dirk and now Luka go thru the same BS. First the have to prove they're "Black enough to play", then they have to prove they are high caliber players. The NBA and WNBA are majority black, and they feel really threatened when a White or Hispanic player enters their world. It doesn't take a psychology degree to understand it. On the flip side, no one ever took issue with Tiger Woods. People knew he was good from the first masters. As far as Caitlin vs Angel , one has to look no further that the social media footprints of both of them. Caitlin does not spend much time on trying to influence. Angel Reese makes followers and attention her focus because she wants the attention. Add to that, Angels stats are not really reflective of an "Elite" player. Others that feel threatened - Colin Kapernick , Brittney Griner, Megan Rapinoe. They all have insecurity issues.

Dude you're a 🤡. Angle is damn near averaging a double double as a Rookie. She keep this up she will win ROTY. No one made this about race until CC fans started mentioning it. Not the other way around. Statements like yours is why race is being brought into this. CC taunted AR first and the moment AR finally get her get back now yall want to cry foul. Calling her all types of racial stereotypes like a "Thug" and trouble maker. Like we don't understand the dog whistles. This is one of the driving factors for CC popularity. Caitlin Clark is a phenomenal talent. She is poised, smart, complimentary and patient w/ the media. She hasn’t said 1 unkind thing about ANY player in the league! Her talent along with her maturity & attitude are what gained her millions of fans in college. That millions strong fan base followed her from Iowa to Indiana’s Fever! Her draft had 2.5 million viewers! She was invited into SNL! Her merch sold out at lightening speed! Her card sold for $10K! Her preseason games pulled sold out crowds! Fever games are selling out at home and on the road and doing so at high dollar ticket prices! Fever games are getting up to 2 million viewers! 36 of 40 Fever games are nationally televised! So, people can pretend it’s racism or sexual discrimination keeping people from being fans of the vets in the WNBA, but that’s BS! Tyson gained millions of eyes, Tiger changed golf, Serena & Venus inspired women and pulled in millions of new tennis fans, Jordan made the Bulls and the NBA fire! TALENT is why and how! Generational phenomenal talent is why! Unusual extraordinary talent is why! We want to see that talent in spite of bad behaviors but when that talent is coupled with a genuinely good person WOW!

Meanwhile Kate Martin, Nicka Muhl: no hate directed at. 🤣 It's all Caitlin Clark as far as charters, sellouts, moving to a bigger arena etc. Yes people pay to see Reese and Brink but no where near the amount as Clark. Her play is a lot more exciting and well rounded. Those great passes, long 3s and fast paced energy are a huge makeup of her game and she's thrilling to watch. I'm not saying W players have no fans you can see it on other shows but her ratio is a lot higher. That means more money for the league, more sponsors for her. Do people really think she should average 25 a game? I don't think so the hate I see is shooting %, turnovers, team losses, no titles (stupid!) and looks (ridiculous!!!). If people expect her to have over 20 pts a game that's just unrealistic. Magic Johnson didn't even average that much during his rookie season on a much better team. He averaged 18 PTS, 7 AST, 7 RB, 22% 3PT (WHAAAT??) & 4 TO's on a team that won the title! And he was a 6'9" PG who had a clear height advantage over other guards. Haters are glaring over her mistakes and then when they win last night are crying that the Sparks are trash! Well, the stifling D the Fever put on them last night made them look like trash so credit to Indy. People need to (but many won't) just stop all the hating on the players and the Coach. The team has been working on CHEMISTRY in under a month together with CC. But I guess being in the news all the time brings out haters who are sick of seeing it, but that's not the players' fault the media everywhere is trying to generate viewers and clicks for $$$. So you get tons of CC content in your face (which I love!). Caitlin has gotten all these fans because she set huge records in college (and still people hated) so then many tuned in to see her play and it just took off. Titles? Apparently those don't garner the attention that personal records do (when breaking HOFer numbers!!!). Does anyone remember all the WNBA team titles since the inception of the league? Does everyone remember all the ladies' college titles from 5 years ago? Yeah okay go google it and get back to me. Titles can be forgotten by everyone with the exception of that team's own fans. BTW Reese has set herself up to be Draymond Green since college and is leaning that way in the pros. She goes oh well guess I'm the bad guy and then continues to push the narrative. I like her game she's got some true talent but no way near as exciting as Clark. Work on those logo 3's, run the court faster, and get some wild on the money passes off gurl!! Reese is playing on a slightly better team though but Indy has been looking much better than earlier in the season. And through all that Clark appears to be humble, supportive, gracious, thankful and available for everything thrown at her. You never hear her complain, she will talk about her own mistakes and shrug off the struggles with tougher competition with a smile in interviews and with no excuses. Look at her twisting her jersey in the practice interview she wants to shoot around with her teammates so bad but knows the huge attention directed at her and obligations with the many long interviews supports the league. She wants it to grow and is never a me person. She totally gets the big picture and at only 22 yo? GTFO!!! The Sky-Fever Matchup will be moved to a bigger arena and on national TV and will be hyped big time!

I really don't think it's anything to do with Angel Reese or anyone else that the WNBA is undergoing a sea change. If CC22 had stayed at Iowa for another season, as she could have done - would there be teams moving their games to bigger stadiums? Selling out for $100+ a ticket? More than half of the games being televised? Would the WNBA have sprung for charter flights - because Angel Rees, Camilla Cardoso and Cam Brinks were in their rookie season? Abso-bloody-lutely not. Not really; if it were the points, Caitlin would have won a championship in college. The media says she is struggling because of expectations. Her game drew 300k at the gate, CC drew 2.2 without needing to do cringy/eyeroll social media lives or posts

YOU CAN CREATE A CHANNEL AND TALK ABOUT THOSE OTHER PLAYERS. Even better, you can buy game tickets, like Caitlin Clark fans do...in record numbers. Or does your outrage and fandom stop once you remove the bonnet?

I get it bro but you know middle America makes it about race all the time cannon! They compare them and they BOTH play different positions! That’s like comparing Shaq to AI. Both great players but do different shit for the game.

When a player breaks damn near every single record in their sport, the haters are going to come out in droves. Especially if they don't light it up right out of the gate as a pro. Caitlin is facing ENORMOUS pressure, had no break between transitioning into the W, and is being blanketed by all defenses. And she's STILL at 15.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. Stellar? No- good for a rookie? Hell yes, especially considering the season is just starting. She'll get her bearings, and once she does, look out ladies. The current W players are simply jealous, that's it. But they should be mature enough to realize that they are going to get their flowers now because of CC.

Thank you, I totally agree with this commentary! I'm tired of hearing about her turnover numbers. If you watch the games, half of her turnovers are great passes that her teammates couldn't handle, and a good portion are due to double teams and extra defensive attention that no one else in the league receives. Also, if you discount CC's play because of turnovers, *then be consistent and discount the play of Alyssa Thomas as well, Thomas averages only one less turnover than CC despite being a veteran, and somehow she is still receiving MVP votes.*
