1:36 "So I'll let it rain,.. the rain ain't gonna hurt me" first verse always touched her so much. She always show emotion in that particular verse. Here, in the record too, in the lives, with Oprah, when Patti tributes to her, she was always in the point of cry. Beautiful voice , graceful and clean.

@@sunaylove5206 Guy you are correct! No other singer, including Whitney, could use their face the way Diana Ross did. She always had a naturally expressive voice and the facial expressions to go with it, even since the Supremes. That’s also one of the reasons she played Billie Holiday, so well. Her faced captured the pain in lady sings the blues, esp. in that bathroom scene. Also, no other singer has channeled Billie Holiday to sing those songs better than Diana Ross. Whitney had a great voice, but never had the breadth of what Diana had in terms of conveying, transmitting, and personally connecting to the public in presentation, charisma, and a commanding personality, which is an extension of how Diana also used her face. That why Diana can act so well too; Whitney cannot.

@hilljayne , Whitney was not her nemesis. Ross is a whole generation before Whitney came on the scene. Ross had only one true nemesis, and that was Barbara Streisand and possibly, you could include Dionne Warwick. Although, Aretha, Patti, and Gladys were in her Era, and were always been compared to her, they were not in the same Class of Ross. Ross is a Star and Entertainer, a Broadway style Performer, as well as renowned Globally and held as the Gold Standard for a Pop Diva. She was performing globally across the world for dignitaries at an early part of her career. The other three that I mentioned are pure Soul Singers with beautiful and powerful voices, but not the impact of Ross, and not of that magnitude. Aretha's title is well earned, "Queen of Soul", and there are no doubts! Again, all of them were Singers. However, Ross and Streisand are stars with Ross shining a little brighter than Streisand in the end.

Diana, you still give me the feeling I had as a little girl of walking the side walks of new York with shopping bags in my hands and planning to go to some grand function at the day's end. I love that feeling. The first time I heard of you, a cousin much older placed in my hands your Supreme album with songs like: Stranger in Paradise, I hear a Symphony...I practiced every day with the curtain pulls as a microphone when every the parents were out. Later a neighbor placed in my hands your Lady Sings the Blues Billie Holiday album and as a young mother, I listened every day singing in that upstairs apartment all of those songs: My Man, Lady Sings the blues... yes,Loved all your songs.

My Coming Out theme song from way back when. It was the most perfect piece for the occasion. Felt so good to stop it playing safe, seeing my life through someone else's eyes, and giving up the truth to those I tried to please. And to start living for myself. Yes there were many who sentenced me for it, and I had to let go and turn and say goodbye to quite a few. But there are some good ones who are still on my side even now. And I knew I would always free. To start from number 1, trying to undo the damage that was done. What an inspiration.
