Samos is a stunning Greek island off the coast of Turkey. It boasts beautiful beaches, thickly forested hills and mountains and a incredible depth of ancient history.
This video shows one of the many fantastic hikes on the island ending in incredible views along with the awe inspiring Panagia Makrini, a ancient church in a cave, thought to be built in the 10th century with frescos decorating the back interior walls dated around the 14th century. It is truly a breathtaking experience and a must for all travelers to Samos.
The route to the hike starts at the village Kalithea, you can park in the village and walk the whole way (3hrs walk) or drive up to a lower small church (see video )where the large road ends and the narrow hiking track begins (1hr walk). The track is steep so relatively reasonable fitness is required or you can just take it nice and slow, don't forget to pack water and snacks as there is a lovely area to picnic and take in the incredible views.
