Sampaloc Quezon Adventure | Zsa Zsa Padilla

Mga ka ProbinZSA, join us in this episode to an excursion to Sampaloc, Quezon! We take off from Casa Esperanza, then we will go visit not only the tourist attractions in the town but we will forage food as we trek to Maapon River, Pugto Pugto Canyon, Underground river, Malaog Caves and the famous Spanish Arc.
In Maapon River, we met a local maniniktik or stone carver and our challenge was to cook Sampalukan local dishes from one of the stone burners that he made. We were able to buy dalag from a local fisherman, some local fresh water shrimp, talangka and got to forage more food like pako or fern, lubi lubi and some fruits along the way.
Our last stop was at the beautiful river featuring the Spanish Arc and that’s where we cooked everything that we bought and foraged.

This one Reminds me of childhood days sa probinsya ni Lola, going to the river with cousins and our moms to wash clothes , while the kids swims sa malinis at malawak na ilog! Then our moms starts preparing our baon, usually sinaing na tulingan, and pork adobo and grilled veggies from their bukid for our lunch while they are waiting for the clothes to dry! ( after hand washing, they dry up the clothes on top of the rocks/ boulders around the massive ilog ) We practically stay there all day! Hand washing clothes sa ilog! One of my best memories with mom, aunties and cousins! Hopefully I can visit casa Esperanza once it’s open to the public and traveling to the Philippines is safe ( since there’s still a lot of travel restrictions due to covid19, I had to cancel my trip there this coming December) Keep giving us a glimpse of your provincial life and your nature adventures! Don’t forget your perla soap and Palo-palo 🤣🤣 oh washing clothes sa ilog was a normal chores back then ( at least 45 yrs ago, I’m 55 y.o. now ) they don’t have running water / faucet in the house, but they do have poso just outside the kitchen, so my Lola, mom and aunties goes to the ilog 1-2 times a week to wash clothes, ( about half a mile walk ) carrying batya and dirty clothes, us kids just goes with them to frolic and swim sa ilog , I for one just looks forward for the lunch being the most matakaw na apo! My Lola even starts boiling peanuts , kamote and white corn ( harvested from her bukid right beside the ilog ) right after our early lunch, usually before 11 am, that way we all have something to munch on while waiting for the clothes to dry... it was indeed some of my best childhood memories! Yes I’m hoping to be back next year! Missing the Philippines 🇵🇭immensely ♥️♥️♥️💃
