This explains how Strong Bad can type with boxing gloves on his hands. It's really Matt with the green screen, and he uses his gloveless fingers in the typing scenes. Then they add the gloves to Strong Bad in post to cover up the fingers and viola!

You can tell how much the emotional trauma that the stress of keeping up with other big budget animations just to stay relevant is piling on to them. I feel really bad for the Chaps. You know, back in the day, Missy and Craig would get up really early morning, go out to the vacant lot, put together a set, get everything painted in their unique style, and then Mike and Matt would grab their Homestar and Strong Bad costumes and make the magic happen. Look at all the cartoons they've made before 2009--nothing but heart, practical effects, and a few fun computer graphics to spice up certain scenes. It was never anything over the top with CGI, that's why sometimes when you look at all those old cartoons, you get the feeling like you're looking at a place where you could actually go...it's because they mostly are! Things got a little more complicated for them when they had to bring in puppetry/animatronics to handle a growing cast of support characters like the cheat and bubs, but the growth was seamless and everybody worked together wonderfully, and it showed: the fans loved it! This was the time where they were having so much fun because the projects were theirs and theirs alone, and every spontaneous thought and whimsy could be a potential vid. Like the one time Matt was fired up while watching Kill Bill with Mike, and when the anime scene came on, he grabbed one of Missy's blue costume wigs, and proclaimed "THAT'S not japanese animation, THIS IS!" and started flaunting the hair and his action poses, everyone watching knew they had an instant classic on their hands. But now -- I mean, they clearly still love their work because they keep pushing on ahead with it, but how impersonal must things feel? They come in for mo cap, stand in front of a soulless green screen, and then everything they work for gets edited and tweaked by a team of 50 animators who each have their own quirks and visions that they put into each work, which is nice for us and all, but it covertly squeezes the Chaps' vision out of there each and every time. Can you imagine trying to invent Trogdor in this type of environment? No getting a good idea down right away and then bringing it to life, first it needs storyboarded, then peer-reviewed, then they have to do mo cap just to run a demo, and then, only then!-can they invite in the producers and sponsors for approval. Now fortunately for us we're not at the point where corporate oversight has turned this show into a milquetoast snooze fest of safe humor and family values, but just imagine what kind of dragon a committee will come up with, as opposed to just a different kind of S with all the personality in the world, which is all anyone ever needed. Anyway, I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining, this is just some food for thought rambling :) H*R forever, thanks for 35+ years of entertainment, Chaps bros!
