A QUICK MESSAGE - Peace everyone for supporting the Sample Sessions Series, it's greatly appreciated. Apologies for taking long with this episode. Along with my upcoming producer Hellapiño (you'll be hearing from him SOON), I had to make sure it was right as this song contains, probably, my favourite Sample of all time and therefore, had to make sure it was correct. QUICK BACK STORY OF THIS SONG: In early 2001, Kanye West had produced a track for Cam'Ron - it was to appear on his album "Come Home With Me". The song sampled The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back", which Cam'Ron was not in favour of, due to "I Want You Back" being used as a sample on another song that same year. The song... "My Baby" by Lil' Romeo; a kid friendly theme that ultimately became a smash hit. With Cam'Ron hesitating, the production found its way into the hands of Jay-Z. This song would eventually become "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)". Fast forward to beginning of Summer 2001. Michael Jackson is gearing up for his 2-Night Residence at Madison Square Garden, celebrating the 30th Anniversary of his career. The event is scheduled to take place on the 7th & 10th of September, 2001. He spends extensive time in New York preparing for the concert and simultaneously, promotes his recently released single, "You Rock My World" from his upcoming project, "Invincible". Michael puts two and two together and asks Jay-Z, who at the time was red hot (and was engaging in a feud with a fellow Hip Hop heavyweight, Nas), to appear on the remix for his "You Rock My World" record; Jay-Z agrees. In return, Jay-Z asks Michael Jackson to appear in his "Girls, Girls, Girls (Pt. 2)" song. Michael Jackson agrees; however Michael Jackson asks to be uncredited - The reasons are unclear, but one may speculate that it could be for a few reasons: 1. Michael Jackson's contractual dispute with Sony and Tommy Motolla at the time. 2. Michael Jackson's fear in the distraction of his own projects. 3. Michael Jackson may not have been permitted to be a feature on other artist's project. 4. Publishing. Michael Jackson does however, in return, agree to appear at Summer Jam 2001. And the rest in HIStory. This song, also marks the ONLY time Michael Jackson appears on a record together with Kanye West as Kanye West would later go on to release his own remix of this song, which you can listen to below👇: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJTSeYSkocqkqtU Thank you all once again and I hope you all enjoyed this episode. More to content to come.🙏

That is insane that Cam passed on the "Izzo" beat. What would the hip-hop world look like if Jay didn't rap on that beat and it was Cam instead? Does it still top the charts the way it did? Does The Blueprint still become the classic it is without that lead single? I don't have the answers to these questions lol. Love the content man! Peace and love

@@IAm_DrLoveJones Facts. Here in the UK, a lot of people were selling that tape from their cars and the local street markets... Especially in Brixton. We generally got the US music, months after it's US release date but I remember listening to songs from this album in Summer of 01.

Wow thats crazy, mariah released an album same day & it flopped hard
@DJObiSmalls

@@BushidoBrownSama Mariah situation was different. First off, she was being sabotaged by her Ex-Husband at the time, who, through Irv Gotti & JLo, had sought to get her career tarnished. Secondly, Glitter, was a Soundtrack Album, so without viewership of the Movie, a lack of interest will be put on the album, so with 9/11 occurring, and people avoiding public spaces, Movies released at the time would not see financial returns. And to top it off, the critics labelling someone "Crazy"... was a narrative that will always bring a destructive impact.

@@threetwentieth that’s cool. But everything serves a purpose. May not be for you, but may be for someone else. For example, my one minute intro prior was for my sponsors. As far as the transitions, I’m not in a rush and the way it’s done, I feel, is the best way to showcase the results in a clear and neat manner. Again, I am not here to please everyone - that is an impossibility and I am aware of that. I’d rather viewers in the aftermath of watching an episode, have their questions answered, than have viewers have more questions (which I find in other Sample-based content video). So if this makes it time consuming, then so be it. Understand that I never started this series to gain a following, I started this series to showcase the dopeness of samples. @@DJObiSmalls if you listen to the beat with Jay-Z's verses, and you have to listen very careful, you can hear the Electric Piano, but instead of it coming from the sample, you hear it coming from Kanye and keyboardists themselves. In a lot of his old production, his mixers would do a lot of EQing and filter to the point where you'll still hear the sample, but he'll recreate one individual element from the track on his end. One example is the We Don't Care beat, where he recreated the bassline.
