Hello there. I would like to know. For absolute precision of -/+ 5% the confidence interval is lets say for example is 40%-50% but why is it for mean for a width within 5mmHg its 108-117? shouldnt it be 108-118mmHg?

Maam vas score is ordinal variable so i think it can be median not mean

Dear Juhi..You are right VAS is ordinal score conceptually..But the moment any ordinal variables have 7 or more points, it's considered as continuous for practical purposes..

Its Researcher Discretion...Conveniently researcher may calculate sample size with different precision and put it in tabular form ..Finally mention which one you are taking as per feasibility

Mam, I have a question I am going to start a prospective study on DM patients. I am confused about the value of (P) which I should take. General the value of P = 0.5 But I checked the prevalence of Diabetes in India is 9.6% ( from Indian Diabetic Report 2021) with 77 million active cases of DM. Mam, please clear my doubts about this and which value should I use to calculate the exact sample size for my study.

Dear Varun You need to clarify few things before moving on sample size calculation. First you mentioned prospective study design but then you are taking reference value of prevalence, for which cross sectional study is ideal option. Second you need to tell what you will ultimately measure from your study in terms of outcome..What's your research question is? Regarding taking value of P as 0.5 is a general rule if thumb when no supportive literature or evidence available and you need to make best guess...otherwise always avoid this approach...

@@meritindia7032 Mam, I checked similar studies but they generally used either P= 0.5 or used this The incidence and prevalence of DM in the Indian population were considered for the calculation of sample size. . Mam my project is Treatment Satisfaction on DM patients. (Prospective Observational study) . I checked the current prevalence of Diabetes in India which is 9.6%. I calculated via this S=z²*p*(1-P)/M² where Z=95% =1.96 P=9.6% = 0.096 Q = 1-P M² = 5% = 0.05 by using this formula my sample size came out 133 But if I use P=0.5 The sample size came out 384 . Mam, please help me in finding the correct sample size it would be a great help for me.

Can you please elaborate what you plan to do...Size of population after 10000 doesn't effect sample size much.... Example...if you want to estimate the proportion of diabetic in population and size is 10 crore even then sample size will be in hundreds..But challenge is that how you plan to select those few hundreds cases out of such huge sample ..obviously simple random sampling will not work...

Greetings mam I want to collect data from employees of hotels , I have 27 star rated hotels to choose from I applied yamane formula it returned 26 as my sample size for hotels . Now finite population correction will needed? As sample is more than 5% For employees since I don’t know exact number I will use Cochran formula.
