I went back and forth with Squid. Sometime being intrigued with it other times finding it too harsh. I NEVER found it boring though. Lately when I’ve smelt it gives me nostalgia vibes of my early forays in niche and especially this house. Weirdly I think that is what is going to make me buy it. It feels like classic Zoologist to me

Hey nice job! I think you were effectively detached and objective when describing ones you’ve smelled before. Very interesting house and I have yet to get my nose on them. Looking forward to future speed dating episodes! Potential houses to explore that perhaps you’d vibe with: Tauer(obviously!), Parfum d’Empire, Apoteker Tepe(can you get?), Arquiste just to name a few…

Thanks for the comment and suggestions! Tauer would definitely not be new to me, I smelled and wore everything but if you would like to see a quick and dirty I could do that.

I Absolutely Love Dodo, Jackfruit Edition. It’s the only Zoologist I felt compelled to buy. The wife loves it (tough critic) and it’s very wearable!

I appreciate the use of this format so I am looking forward on the next house you'll be covering (I made a bid with myself). Have you tried cockatiel? i am focusing part time on mimosa. cheers
@SeldomlyOftenАй бұрын
Never tried Cockatiel, didn’t ever come across a sample. How is it? The notes and the animal itself wasn’t too inspiring. You think you know what’s next? Interesting!!
@alexceraudo9383Ай бұрын
@@SeldomlyOften you need to like powdery, very powdery scents to enjoy cockatiel; I find the opening very interesting with the rhubarb counteracting the vanillic base. Many people find it off-putting and I can see why. (I also can see why it was awarded the olfactory award in the artisan category when was under another name and brand). I made three hypotheses about what's next, but chances are I will be proven wrong. Let's see.

I love Civet, I own a bottle and I even wear it to bed lol… if Im not mistaken I believe the idea behind this one is more like a homage to vintage perfume and to me it does have that vintage chypre flare to it. It gets a little more animalic in the dry down and a bit furry.
@SeldomlyOftenАй бұрын
@@Devasterium it’s a really beautiful frag and totally up my alley scent wise, I might get a bottle in the future.

the strange thing is, it has more civetone sacred scarab than civet, which has a very apricot peachy aldehidic thing going on like mitsuoko, maybe in the late late dry down some civet could appear but even less than gold man
@SeldomlyOftenАй бұрын
Sacred Scarab is amazing, I love the unique opening and the drydown is complex and deep. Doesn’t last too long unfortunately.

Thanks for this Daniel. Idk this house cos we can't get it here but T-Rex is the only one that sounds interesting cos burning without Oudh/incense right?, I'm always looking for burning smells, ideally it would be a petrichor bonfire + salt profile I can't really find anywhere
@SeldomlyOftenАй бұрын
Trex is a masterpiece of a frag. The trip of it is absolutely amazing: starts out super smoky and briny, charred wood, barbecue, and bitter, acidic air. The skies then clear and you get a lush tropical garden, wet and floral, the base is animalic and leathery.
@assumptaaiАй бұрын
@SeldomlyOften damn ok, my sis is gonna have to send me some from Canada. Thanks! If you like honey there is a very beautiful rich honey in the mid thru drydown in Teriaq. It's rich syrupy in texture but natural smelling like a dark honey into the leather

I like the zoologist concept about fragrances but they really need to amp up the animalics and natural ingredients. For the concept of the brand i find most of their fragrances to be very normal, very wearable...and not that challanging.
@SeldomlyOftenАй бұрын
True and agree BUT most users are not thrill seeking fragrance nerds, if they want to sell products they need to balance out the wearability. I've seen some videos where people really frown at even the most easy ones from the house.

@@SeldomlyOften yeah it depends on where you at on your fragrance journey, once your nose starts developing, even the most popular zoologist's seem very wearable
