I’m not gonna lie my entire experience with this show was “i miss Shadow, when’s shadow gonna come back?” Because literally all the best moments happened when he was on screen whether it be fight scenes, the funny moments or Shadow literally helping Sonic grow as a character. He was written so well and yet the writers used him almost like a temporary reward for fans rather than a pivotal character??? They literally threw the highlight of the series in a ravine for a few episodes because why not? Insane.
@annalynn826410 ай бұрын
Shadow being "stuck" in a ravine for multiple episodes like little Timmy being stuck down a well pissed me off so much, truly the pinicle of horrible writing and plot convenience. Then, to top it off, didn't he say something like "Oh if only I had a chaos emerald, I could have used chaos control to get out of here," uhh...no?! That's not exactly what chaos control even does; that's what chaos *snap* does. Unless I'm mistaken, chaos control slows down time for the user of said move, whereas chaos snap is that little teleportation move Shadow is seen doing on occasion in the mainline games. So not only did the writers make the common mistake of mixing up chaos control with chaos snap, they also forgot that Shadow doesn't necessarily require a chaos emerald to use chaos snap/teleport around in the first place...at least not in Sonic 06, Boom, and Forces. Oh, and the inhibitor rings. Guess they're just for decoration. The writers didn't want to make him too powerful, Sonic's the main character, after all! 😑

The writing was on the wall the minute they revealed the different versions of the main cast bc you just knew that it was going to effect how the show itself was written. I really thought Season 2 would break the mold but Season 3 just made me disappointed all over again.

If you didn't like this animated series, maybe it's because this show is made by WildBrain. Do you know that animation company? Let's just say they did some mediocre animated series for kids. Animated series for kids could be good, but if the production company isn't that great, well, you get disappointing products. In western animation there are some animation companies which think that quality is irrelevant because young audience doesn't care about it. And then these companies don't put so much effort in their cartoons. They still get money from the audience. That's not really a good way to think. Maybe those companies are indeed a little incompetent and selfish. Audience deserves good products by good writers, directors, animators and voice actors. What do you think about WildBrain?

@AxsorXI10 ай бұрын
@@Kyterfied There are companies which care about profit without caring so much about quality. That's simple.
@basedfrost88210 ай бұрын
@@Kyterfied In western animation, more specifically animation made for TV/ Streaming, everything has to fit into a check box. The highest priority when making any show is "Profit return", meaning, "how much money can we make back?" This idea of "Profit return" isn't wrong. Every company has to think this way so they can protect their bottom line... The issue comes from the fact that western animation studios- like Wildbrain, the studio behind Sonic Prime- approach it in the REVERSE order. They write their shows around the idea of making as many toys they can sell as possible, because that was the original approach back in the 70's 80's & 90's. It worked extremely well for a time, but as the animation industry and story writing became more complex, it's stopped working in their favor, ESPECIALLY over the last 10 years. All of the alternate dimension characters in Sonic Prime (the Egg Council, Boss Cage Mage, Pirates, and New Yolk variants of the characters) do not exist because someone in the writers room was really passionate about them as characters. They were created first and foremost with the idea of wanting to primarily sell them as toys, and secondarily making all of them compelling and well-written characters. This approach ONLY works with new IP it is based around- such as Ben 10, another property by Wildbrain- because there isn't any pre-established foundation for how the story should play out in tandem with toys released. This approach doesn't work with pre-existing IP because there is already an established foundation of how characters should act, and how the stories play out. As a result, they have to retroactively change BOTH of these aspects so they properly fit into the "let's sell as many toys as we can" box first and foremost. The writers and studios care about the source material, sure, but they only care as much as they need to while still doing what they've always set out to do- sell toys and merchandise. This is also exactly why Pac Man and the Ghostly Adventures and the Mega Man show failed miserably.

I'll be the first to admit, I enjoyed the action sequences and the interactions between the Shatterspace counterparts, but hawt mama, the padding was REAL in this season. Mind you not btw, I went in this season completely blind. When the fight started in Episode 3, I thought, "oh heck yeah, the final battle is on!". But by Episode 7, I was all like "good lord Goomboss, have they seriously been fighting for five whole episodes?!", and it doesn't help that there was this cycle of "Sonic and friends fight Nine and the Grim Robots, win, and the situation escalates so Nine uses more power to build better or bigger robots so he wins and Sonic and Rebel have to adapt and think of a new plan; rinse and repeat, almost ad nauseam". And then when Nine finally realized the weight of his actions, I couldn't help but be a little bit aggravated that they spent five episodes fighting over something that possibly could've been easily fixed if Sonic told Nine to simply look around himself

Okay so. As with many other Netflix animated shows, what they did was Netflix ordered one season of Sonic Prime. Only one, but with a LOT of episodes. And as this "season" is finished up, they release some episodes in a batch that they name a season. So what right? Well I really belive that midpoint through "Season 2" the budget really started to dry up and the crunch set in, this led to them having to really reuse assets. Because of this, the third "Season" HAD to stay in that one environment, almost the entire time. Leading to... uh, that season. This also applies to the writing, in my opinion they introduced each area WAY too quickly, they couldve spaced out how fast Sonic moved about the spaces.

For the chaos council, I think they should’ve also put each Eggman in a different universe. I would’ve loved to see some uniquely goofy takes on Eggman. Like a pirate Captain Yolkbeard with a robotisized sorta cyborg crew. Have a Once-ler inspired Eggman in the jungle world, who started the deforestation originally. As for New Yolk… what if Eggman just was a machine in that universe and wants to run the entire city, and later the universe as a well-oiled machine. Three Eggmen. A direct foil to Sonic in New-Yolk, a rival to Captain Knuckles in the Pirate world, and a proper foil to Thorn Rose in the Jungle. One pure evil villain, and two greedy jerks. It wasn’t all of the characters just being stupid, just most of them blindly following their Captain. Now, back to the video. Pausing again. In Season 2, those “Ghost Friends” briefly turned into the real versions when Nine was figuring out how to put the shards together. So they’re more real than you think. But in the season 3 opening, there’s nothing they can do for them so they have to leave. Oh yeah, episodes 4 thru 7 dragged WAY too long. The fighting started when Nine insulted chili dogs and Sonic said “Of course you realize THIS means WAR!” XD, just kidding. That “Friends down for the count but then suddenly get back up again” was a plan made by Sonic. Nine even told Sonic it was clever but that “betrayal comes natural to you”. You are so right about the canonicity of this show being marketing ploy. This isn't a problem exclusive to Sonic, but a lot of companies have begun to advertize their shows as "canon" to drum up hype and get hardcore fans to watch. But it's all just lip service and it's damaging the overall canon and trust between fans and the company. If we keep getting told something is canon when it's clearly not, we aren't going to believe companies anymore. As a result, the term "canon" will lose all meaning and legitimacy because it was abused by companies. They are trying to pull a boy who cried wolf. And the ironic thing about canon is that if a pieces of media is really canon, they shouldn't have to tell you that it's canon outside of that media. I should not have to hear a writer say it's canon or read that info in a marketing release. If a show, game, or movie really is canon, it will be clear in that pieces of media itself because it will align with past media and not contradict it. Like there is no debate that Sonic Frontiers is canon because the game makes it obvious. By that logic, you should never have to be told something is canon. And thats worlds the other way too, if something is non-canon that media will make it obvious. But that's ok, fan won't complain if something is non-canon if it was never advertize as being canon, they only get upset after being lied to by the company. If a company is deliberately highlighting a piece of media as canon, you should be suspicious, because there is no reason for them to do that unless that media will clearly contradict the canon.

Overall I really enjoyed prime. The character arc sonic went on was a cool change of pace, all hail Shadow he is back again. All these alternate realities of the characters is alright some are great like Nine, Rusty Rose, Dreed, rebel rouge. But I would have liked to see the normal characters. Season 3 I think the first three episodes were good when it comes to pacing but the rest of the big battle in the grim it didn’t need to drag on for 4 episodes but they all had there moments in them. I love that shadow get an interaction with rouge even if it’s not the real rouge. I think the ending is the worst part but here’s how I would do it, keep the fight the same and the last scene plays out the same except Shadow is there and instead of a big shockwave Eggman shows up in a egg mech and that’s it. If I had to choose a spot for this to take place I think after lost world is the best spot for it if it’s canon. Now what I want for the next sonic show (I know the knuckles show is coming out but I mean after that) it would be some of amalgamation of X, Boom, and Prime. Give me a sonic show that has the storytelling from X, the comedy from Boom, and the animation from prime that’s my ideal Sonic show.

The lack of stakes in the finale got to me the most. No matter how many times characters take damage they just keep going. If the characters are invincible who cares how bad they get beat up? They can't lose. The robots can just be rebuilt infinitely so who cares if you blow some up? It's an unstoppable force vs an immovable object. Nine keeps drawing more and more power from the prism and acts like it's hurting him. Holding his head like he's having a migraine, or his chest like he's having a freaking heart attack, so it implies there's a time limit on this. Either nine will run out of power or he'll just die if this goes on too long, but nope. There is no limit it just keeps going. The worlds are all deteriorating, even the one they're on, so there's that time limit again, but NOPE! It's just gonna keep eroding forever. Nine even accelerates the deterioration intentionally in a pyrrhic victory move and it doesn't matter. then eventually looks around like "what have I done?" What was the intended effect of accelerating the world's destruction if not destroying the world? Oh and the robots are implied to be a huge threat. Sonic and shadow had to fight together just to beat one and it took a while (which was a cool fight) then we get to infinity war and even non-combatants like jungle knuckles and Big can easily solo the bots. So are they strong or not? In short the characters can't die or even be beaten, the world can't end no matter how much time they waste, there's just no urgency or consequence to anything so it drags..

Well, to tell you this, Ian Flynn has made his tweets on Twitter once Sonic Prime is over, he stated that Sonic Prime takes place some time after Sonic Advance 3(Yes, I said Some time after, not directly after it), but that's not all. He follows up that this also covers Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors, given Orbot and Cubot's appearance. Plus, Ian Flynn also said that he's not the one to choose to make Sonic Prime canon, and he was only a Story Consultant for the show itself. Also, the man behind the show(kinda forgot his name) made a clarification about the whole missing episode 8th situation. He stated that Episode 1 in the First Season were supposedly 2 episodes put together in 1 Episode. Also, that cliffhanger ending for Season 3 is always meant Sonic is off to his next adventure.

Y'know what? When the heroes were rescuing the pirates, it made me think of a reverse SatAM situation, where Sonic and Friends are operating FROM Eggman's lair, instead of fighting AGAINST it, and I was really hoping that the season was gonna give us a little more of that. Instead of them fighting for 5 episodes straight, it would've been nice to see them go on missions 3 episodes to gather tools, rescue folks, or scout Nine's tower, all the while having characters reflect on things, before facing off on the second-to-last episode, and then finish the series off with good closure. It's so weird to me that they had the perfect set-up RIGHT THERE, and did nothing with it.

Yeah, robot rouge is no more. 😔 And yes, I had to play it in a slow speed and yes I had to replay it a handful of times just to get the spot the difference realization up to mind, just like the stuff that I had seen in Season 3 but did not really react as serious and hard-core with the criticism stuff as it showed for me afterwards. Maybe just me having the impressions be a bit dumbed down, with sure noticing some stuff with repetition and some off the ball character moments, but I wasn't up towards it compared to other sonic games like frontiers and superstars in a way taking my mental feelings of specific things too serious and objectively with update 3 being a good portion of mid, and superstars I can say the same for the small amount that I played too, and even dream team has the same things with certain things too so I really don't have good expectations due to the mid status that I had seen of sonic recently, and maybe I should stay away from the blue blur for a while, but I did and do still enjoy sonic, even Season 3 at moments, but I feel there is a pattern going with the Sonic franchise with mediocrity in some ways than others in my opinion. :( I know the sonic series is for kids, but I feel that it has something somewhat in common lately with all of the media for sonic that has been stale in the franchise that the developers of sonic media should fix. :) I think I elaborated more on my feelings on the state of the franchise than anything as of lately that can be different from others but that is the way that I preceded it anyways. But I gotta say, robot rouge disappearing is a wild moment in episode "???" of season 3, fight 6. Some fans might be curious what happened to her though. 🤔 I guess we will never know.....

1. Overall, I thought it was good. But the pacing really was this show's biggest problem alongside the kind of paper thin alternate reality versions of the characters. Also, Sonic losing IQ points in this show got more annoying the longer it went on. The pirate world, No Place, in particular really made me want to blow my brains out. The theme was fun for all of 5 minutes before it got old. And speaking of, they EASILY could have cut 4 episodes worth of content and still had time to spare. 2. Shadow was the best part of the show. Probably the best iteration of him that we've gotten since 06'. 3. I might have been able to forgive the show for most of its faults, if they didn't basically pull the rug out from under us, implying that there's more to come, but apparently that's it.

I agree with everything that was pointed out during the series. It was a huge bumper that the writing did not do the title justice. I loved the animation, fighting scenes, and the voices for the characters. It was well done. The western studios has a habit of trying to see what sells and not give good content in the process. The writers here did put themselves in a corner and really dragged season 3. For the characters, like sonic is not really all there for his personality. The writers here did not really expand sonic's character depth, as he was 'dumbed down a bit'. It was a little off as that reminds me of when knuckles was written in the 2010, sonic boom etc. It seemed like here sonic is the joke and there are refences of what sonic did from past games to make it funny. For an example, sonic falling from the sky and not landing on his two feet. We can compare that to black knight. I do appreciated that shadow's personality is actually on point, not a 100%, but there is an improvement. I did wanted to see more from shadow, but yet like Sam mentions, "We don't see a lot from shadow during the first season". There was not enough interactions from shadow in season 3 either. Which was disappointing. I related more to shadow as he tried to reason with sonic, those parts were annoying, but yet it was funny to see shadow's face as he is "getting frustrated with the writing". Shadow's face was my face, while watching those parts. I do not think this series is canon either. It seemed off when the sprite animation was portraying advance 3. There are some evidence from Ian Flynn in Twitter that Sonic Prime is after Sonic Advance 3. He also mentions that it covers Unleashed and colors, which did not make sense to me. Sonic X is not canon now, but it was lining up with the advance series. Sonic advance 3 was released June 7th 2004, while Sonic X season 3 was released September 10th 2005. At that time the writers were also connecting the sonic x comics to the show and the games. I do not know what happened at the end of sonic advance 3, but this is not a coincidence.

I don’t think that we should hate on a Sonic TV show for trying something new because change is something that Sonic fans don’t think they want but if Sonic the hedgehog never changes then it’s just the same thing over and over again. Which is something that Sonic prime did; it dragged on too long but it did something different than the other Sonic shows and I give it a lot of respect for that. I personally had a lot of fun with the show! Yes it had MANY issues, mostly the pacing of it. But the characters were fine for what they were and the story brought a lot of interesting ideas and the animation is just beautiful! I would watch this show again just to see the animation; I love it so much. But it was very very dragged out unfortunately. And we needed more Shadow. I truly believe that if Shadow was with Sonic for the entirety of the show it would’ve saved it because everyone loved the dynamic between them and Shadow’s character is the best it’s been in years. But those are just my thoughts. I want to be as clear as possible that this show is FAR from perfect; very far, but it’s also not the worst Sonic show we’ve gotten. So credit where it’s due.

Only good thing about S3 is that we got more Shadow! I admit I was super confused when Sonic teleported back to New Yolk. I thought basically each time he found a shard, he took it with him in a sense that it was now back in Green Hill. So he had to continue looking for each shard in the new universes until he collected them all. Shadow telling Sonic to keep going all the time really made it feel like it was the goal to find the shard in each universe until he had found and touched them all, resulting in the shard going back to its original location and that universe no longer existing. The amount of times that EVERYONE kept telling Sonic not to trust Nine really made it super predictable that Nine was going to betray him… And then S3 just DRAGGED! Like, bro! I’m rewatching the same episode over and over! Can we just get to the end? Plus, THAT’S ALL WE GOT FOR THE END!? Sonic now changing the circumstances to NOT shatter the prism and then Shadow teleports it away? Where? What happened to Shadow and the prism!? What was that blast at the end? Give us at least another episode with Sonic FINALLY with all of his OG friends and at least letting us know what happened to the rest of the shatter verse and Shadow!

Sam I think you're craving some Sonic Boom. It's laid back, fun and adventurous at the same time. I feel like they did drag the fights in the final season but I enjoyed the comedy moments. As far as the alternate characters from the multiple universes it would definitely benefit the video games that come out because we would have multiple choices of who we want to use plus that character's unique skill set. This isn't me disagreeing with you though.
