I’m from a landlocked country, get sea sick in a merry-go-round and never stepped foot in a workshop. Found this channel during peak covid, while in lockdown and a bit depressed. It was so inspiring seeing a man with a vision, surrounded by an incredible team working together to create something as beautiful as this boat. 7 years ago I was walking on a beach in Antigua looking at the boats at anchor. A guy coming the other way said if you like boats there's this crazy Englishman on youtube that's just bought a rotten old 100 year old boat, I should check it out. Being the 2,555th comment, I don't expect this to be read, but I never thought I would get as emotional as I am know. It is a sweet moment, with a bit of sadness mixed in. Sweet because I have been to Sequim once to donate some things, and to Port Townsend once to donate about 400 pounds of the lead used as ballast. The last time I was there I told Leo I'd see him in 2 1/2 years, which comes up this October. It was that stretch of time , previously, that I had been in Sequim. To see Tally Ho in the water was something I've wanted to see for a long time. The sadness comes from the fact that due my age and health issues, and Leo sailing around the world, I'll probably never get to visit him and the boat again. To Leo and his amazing crew, well done.

Have watched Tally Ho's re-birth from day one and marvelled at the skill and attention to detail lavished by Leo and his many, many helpers. As a fellow Englishman I feel proud that a boat originally conceived and built in England and ending up in America as a rotten hulk, has been reborn using those same skills and crafts. To me the whole project is a metaphor for the founding of America by groups of settlers from many nations who set sail all those centuries ago in simple wooden sailing ships.

I'm an engineer who works on big projects with big budgets in the space industry and I can tell you that very few of them are up to your standards. The way you managed eveything... starting from scratch with very few resources, facing adversity sometimes, and finally being able to complete such masterpiece... Hats off to you and your crew. Hey Leo, I stumbled across your Tally Ho! just after your project began. A few months later my dad, a lifelong sailor, had a stroke and was no longer able to sail. I introduced him to your project, and he’s been an avid viewer since. As a former resident of Sequim, he feels a personal attachment to the build you began there. We tried to get space in the open house you held a ways back with no luck, but that’s how a crowd-supported project is. Anyone who’s expressed disappointment in not being invited to the private launch was then only supporting the project for themselves. You and your amazing team accomplished so much, first in relation to Tally Ho! and second, with regard to the family and community you’ve built, in person and online. I hope you’re as proud of that as I am for you. We didn’t need to see the launch in person to share in your joy, your face when she touched the water was enough. What a tremendous accomplishment! I’ve marveled and learned so many woodworking techniques by watching your work, so thank you for that. On behalf of my dad and me, well done to you and to the team. Fair winds and following seas.

I only started to watch these videos - from the very first - in February whilst starting radiotherapy for prostate cancer. I watched every minute of every one during February and March, mainly whilst awaiting my turn for treatment, and hoping that I would catch up before launch - but continually amazed at how much work was involved and the patience and dedication on display. I sailed as a young man, and have been an engineer all my life, so have been utterly fascinated (sometimes for 2-3 hrs a day!) by these videos. I caught up a month ago real time, just after my treatment finished. And I have now been privileged to watch the launch just days after having been given the cancer "all clear". Tally Ho is now inextricably linked to my "cancer period". I'm now on the Isle of Wight, overlooking the Solent, and more confidently looking forward to seeing Tally Ho on her way "home" to her birthplace! It has been a splendid journey so far, Leo. I'm looking forward to all the others that we may be privileged to join you upon, courtesy of these videos.

2017 just after I retired and moved full time to Sequim, got bored one night and put Sequim into KZbin search engine.What pops up, but a crazy ass Englishman swinging a chainsaw cutting down trees and bushes to get clearance to put some old boat in the yard and next to a shop of a friend of his. After a few months of watching videos, realized the boat was just a few miles from my house. For my own mental, because watching YT is just fantasy land stuff, I took a box of Rainier Beer and walked up your driveway unannounced. Thank you for not throwing me out the first time. It's been an honour meeting and knowing you and all the extraordinary craftsmen/women that have laid their hands on the Tally Ho. Also, I talked to the young Port guy that was operating the travel lift the next day. He didn't say so, but I could hear it in his voice, he was scared spitless moving the Tally Ho. I live near Sequim where Tally Ho began this rebuild adventure. I was driving by and looked across the field and there was this old hull sitting there and I thought "good luck with that!" There are many boats that end up rotting in back yards and fields in this part of the world and each has a story. The story of the Tally Ho is EPIC and for almost 7 years I've watched with interest and amazement at the incredible mix of dreams, craftsmanship, talent, personality and above all dedication and spirit. Thank you, Leo, and all those involved for the gift you have given us. I look forward to the finishing of the project, setting sail, and to many a voyage. She sure looks pretty in the water. 🙂

Well, Leo, it has been a long time coming. I'm 76 years old. I have had a couple of sailboats and lived on a 52' Motor Yacht (custom build, not by me 😀) You have done a great job. Some time ago, 40 or 45 years age I bought a set of plans for a Joshua Slocum Spray. I never even got started. But after watching every one of your videos' I, realize I, had no, idea what what I had instore had I tried. So, I have lived vicarioulsy through you and Tally Ho. I am a wood worker and, you may remember when you moved to Port Townsend I had an extra drill press and miter saw I wanted to get to you. Just wasn't able to make it happen. Anyway, I'm very proud of you. Now, as I watched you build Tally Ho, I am going to watch you sail her. I wish you fair winds and following seas!

Well… Leo… I knew this was going to be an emotional video but as soon as you hung the garland on Tally Ho’s bow sprit I was in bits. Then when she was lifted into the air more tears came. Tally Ho in the water, even more tears. It’s ridiculous “what a boat can do”. I’m a 55 year old carpenter in England writing this still with blurry vision trying to find the words that will do justice to the journey we have embarked on with you and your fantastic crew both present and past.Great to see Raul and Pancho,and a fitting tribute to Darlene. Can’t wait to see the next part of this fantastic endeavour,my wife and I will be with you till the end.

Greetings from Australia. Just about everyone in the boat building industry down here has followed Leo and the rebuilding of Tally Ho. I watched every single video produced. I have tears in my old eyes today. Leo and his friends have given us a master class in dedication and persistence, and 6 years later she is reborn. This must be very emotional for Leo. He risked everything and the reward is now before us. It ushers in a new chapter in his life. What a legacy. So best wishes Leo, and if I even get over there, I will make sure that I catch up with you and Tally Ho.

I've been along for the ride since the very beginning. What an amazing moment! Congratulations Leo and crew on the launch. My wife and kids and I all did a cheers of our various beverages while watching the keel hit the water. Tons of fun! Maybe someday we will get to see her in person. It was Jun 15, 2017 when this video popped up. Since I used to teach dinghy sailing to school children, I took an interest and watched every episode since. The first few episodes showed what a massive undertaking it was going to be, if it was possible at all. Well, after many ups and downs Tally Ho is in the water. It's a tribute to Leo's many skills as a boat builder, a team leader and an administrator, and to the members of the team he gathered round him that the venture is a success.

I am 81 and haven't missed an episode from the beginning. I was younger then as were we all. This was very emotional because of all the work that has gone to make something beautiful, a work of art. Leo I don't know how you have done it. I think your obvious kindness and heartfelt love for others and your work ethic has drawn craftsmen (and women) to help Tally Ho come alive again. Even though I have watched from a distance (Houston), I feel the energy and excitement that this launch means to so many of us, even if we are not sailors. You have been here long enough to be at least an honorary American. I am proud that you have built Tally Ho here in my country to sail the world. I will be watching where ever Tally Ho takes us.

I am a 53 year old cuban emigrant who has for ever love boats, specially wooden sails boats. I watched every episode from the beginning to today, every week I waited for the show to be published by Leo. I feel very happy that Tally Ho is finally floating on her own. Can’t wait to see this piece of art get her brand new beautiful sails and her anchor (also I am following the repairs and fabrication of the anchor’s mechanism) I am sure next week we all see that process. Fantastic job by you and all those involved Leo, Tally Ho is no doubt a far superior vessel than the one built in 1909. Also a world away from the wreck dragged off the reef in the Cook Island minus mast, bowsprit and rudder. I thought the name was familiar and recalled been told of her when I lived in Rarotonga in '76 &'77 by the author N Ronald Syme while enjoying his homebrew on the veranda of an evening.

I recall idling past Tally Ho a decade or so ago. I remarked to my wife what an prestigous name was scrolled across the bow. She quipped its for sale. I stopped and backed up so as to read the hand written "sign", a curled letter sized piece of paper or poster board that read Tally Ho for sale $1. attached to it's dry rotting hull. We chuckled not knowing its history or its future. Saw my first episode a few years later and haven't missed one since. Congragulations and many thanks to Leo, his crew and supporters from a land lubber in southern Oregon. Well done!

I was right. There was nearly as much saltwater covering my face as is required to hold Her up. I nearly lost it at the beginning, looking into Leo's eyes, seeing the pride and joy nearly overwhelming him...but I held off, to watch with clear eyes. Until I saw Pancho. I have been a blubbering, snotty mess since then. Laughing in my own overwhelming joy, taking deep breaths to just keep up and focus. She is so beautiful. THIS is what KZbin is FOR! Having watched every episode and now able to read the Wonderfull comments, I would like to add my congratulations to Leo and his incredible team. The standard of workmanship has been inspiring as has the humorous working relationship between Leo and his many co-workers. I can’t help but wonder, what becomes of Sampson Boat Co once you’re ready to take Tally Ho round the world? All those tools and that equipment that won’t fit on the boat? Does Sampson continue as a boatwright’s shop in Port Townsend? Do you move it all back to the UK? Someplace warmer like Jamaica? Astounding, isn’t it?
