Isolation of DNA from Banana
Introduction:
Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is a fundamental molecule present in all living organisms. This practical aims to isolate DNA from banana fruit, demonstrating the presence of DNA in plant tissues.
Materials and Methods:
Ripe banana, ethanol, soap/detergent, salt, and a coffee grinder/blender were used. The banana was mashed, mixed with soap and salt, and incubated. The mixture was then filtered, and the filtrate was centrifuged. Ethanol was added to precipitate the DNA.
Results:
A white, cotton-like precipitate of DNA was obtained from the banana extract.
Conclusion:
This practical successfully isolated DNA from banana, illustrating the universal presence of DNA in living organisms
