This is the future (probably) - a really good find. I think it's way ahead of it's time (3 years ahead at least), however thats depending on if the average midtear phone increases in computing power so that its able to do general word processing and graphics seamlessly and with ease and the connectivity is wireless and secure or wired and ubiquitous. Good honest review that informs and addresses everything that really matters in real world situations. This is a real solution for people who need entry level laptop but use they phone for everything- current online school situations. If they listen to what you have said here and can make the adjustments and manage to drop the price. They will have a definite hit. Pricing here is key. Definitely looking into those keys. @@PPaul03 Samsung dex is an option on Samsung phones which makes it possible to let's say make your flat-screen functioning as a laptop computer, in this case she bought this device prepared for it, so it can be used on the go as a laptop with your phone, so you'll need a Samsung phone with Samsung dex at then you can hook that phone up to whatever monitor and it will be a desktop computer.

You can use the S7+ as a great second display with Windows with Superdisplay (work with pen and with zero lag, wired and wireless)

I've been doing this with the Nexdock Touch and Galaxy Tab S6. Productivity beast. I wish NexDock S6 had Miracast (for Wireless Dex), a better track pad, and had a convertible hinge for tablet mode.

@@thao also quick thing if you put your Magnetic mount the other way up (hinged point on the bottom side) the centre of mass would be lower and closer to the screen hinge (about centre edge of the overall panel) so it would contribute less to the screen shift/movement with heavier phones attached to it.

Love your reviews! This dock makes sense for those that have a low end or old laptop. If you have a recent laptop, especially a light one, Dex works with windows and you have all you pictures and your phone becomes your wired modem, so it's basically the same, with the big added bonus of a desktop os...

Yes!! finally a proper review of the Nexdock Touch. Thank you Thao for reviewing this like a normal consumer and less like a tech reviewer. I preordered the Nexdock Touch after watching your video on the Nexdock 2. I love working on it more than any other laptop or PC I have ever used. Its also way faster because I use it with my Note 20 5G. Also thank you for not only telling us that we can halt charging of our phone from the dock but showing us during the video. Not sure if the books and shit detailed this cuz I plucked and filed them. Again thanks for another awesome review plus that yubico key is a must have.

Thanks to you I replaced my $1000 laptop with a Note 9 and DeX... My setup: Phone - $550 Monitor - $80 Bluetooth M&K - $40 Usb C to HDMI adapter: $20 For sub $700 I got: -A flagship phone -A notetaking device (I literally don't use paper anymore, Samsung Notes is amazing. I write my notes to help learn my subjects, then use the convert to text feature when it's time to review) -A stationary pc setup (more than capable for me as a Health Science Major, and for 90% of students out there, aside from Compsci/Engg students) -An art pad (with Autodesk Sketchbook, I'm able to use the S pen on the phone as a touchpad while projecting art onto my monitor) I honestly think this should be the future. Handheld devices have become so powerful that they outperform laptops in the same price range. Having one device for everything is amazing. Wireless DeX, further optimization and the integration of the S pen to the more popular S lineup of Samsung flagships are all good steps forward. Samsung seriously needs to market DeX better. It's a one of a kind feature that could revolutionize the industry should enough people adopt it. Finally, shoutout to you Thao, from one Torontonian to another.

I'm also wondering why are they not marketing this like crazy. I was searching for a laptop replacement, checking out tablets as well, and once I found out about DeX I was immediately soId to Samsung (got a Tab S6). The ability to have a tablet that works perfectly with the S Pen at one moment, and a dual screen workstation setup with bluetooth keyboard and mouse the next totally blew me away.

I have this lapdock. You pretty much hit on everything. Typing is impossible with the trackpad enabled. Thank you for not glossing over this. I wish other reviewers would suppress their zeal long enough to actually use the thing instead of swooning over it right out of box. I only have 3 subscriptions to other youtubers. You're #4.

Even the newer models have a large trackpad. Samsung definitely needs to reduce its size to approximately 5 cm by 10 cm (H X W). Their designers should use the HP Spectre 13 (2016) as inspiration.

Didn't realise you could turn off phone charging with the NexDock Touch but really wanted to! Got mine three weeks ago and its been bugging me. My only minor criticisms are the incorrect UK keyboard layout, (but I know where the important keys are off by heart anyway), the lack of a decent mounting accessory for my phone (which I think is coming soon) and the fact I just got billed an extra £70 for import charges. But the dock itself is great. Haven't had a laptop for about a year now and use Samsung Dex to run my business. This gives a super portable way to access it on the go with a big screen. Love it.

I have a Nexdock Touch too. I use it to access Dex with my S10 and as a secondary portable monitor for my Razer Blade 15. I'm a video editor, so having the two screens makes content creation a breeze and when the laptop is rendering I can plug in my phone and do some admin tasks in Google docs and conference calls. I've only had it a couple of weeks and I know I'd be lost without it already.

A nice summary of the NexDock Touch. I had the NexDock 2 and then got the Touch. I used the 2 with a Note9, Mate 10 Pro and a OnePlus 7. Before the Note9 upgraded to Android 10 you had access to Linux on Dec and that was fantastic. I now run my Touch with a Huawei P30 Pro and a OnePlus 7T. Easy Projection works great on the Touch but getting the Android desktop, through Taskbar 6.0, to trigger on the 7T requires some work but it is possible - I'm using it to write this. Getting your device to dock to the screen is key for usability for me and the option shown here is ok.

Amazing Review. You picked everything correctly. All the good and bad things about ND2. I still have older version and to be honest i like it a bit more. Because i use DeX for work. i need to use F1 to F12 quick a lot due to what i do. Because they swapped Fn button to be always ON, it is a big deal for me. I do like touch screen but it is not a big selling point for me.

Great video as usual! I would definitely consider something like this. I have an older computer that's quite bulky and heavy so I don't like carrying it, but I always have my phone. I mostly used my laptop to use Word and to do research through Google. I think this setup would be good for on the go work that isn't usually intensive for me

Pretty interesting. I saw a review elsewhere but when it comes to DEX I really want to hear your thoughts on it. I’m going to really consider this now. Maybe wait for a second revision with a better track pad. That really is the biggest hold up on me just impulse buying this. I kind of wish they made a slot to slip in your Note into the body of the laptop. Having a phone dangling from a cable is going to be problematic.

People tend to use a case with their smartphones so unless you remove the case how would you propose Samsung accommodate a drop-in slot for the smartphone? I like the idea but it is probably unrealistic; do you carry your smartphone without a case? The trackpad on the Nexdock should be smaller, about the size of the trackpad on the HP Spectre 13 (2016-2017) model allowing the screen size to be reduced to 13 inches (13.3 inches) like the HP Spectre 13. In my experience, larger trackpads are less accurate and tend to become defective over time compared to smaller trackpads.

I am getting a NexDock 2 Touch and am looking forward to it because I use Dex all the time but I have to carry around a portable monitor, keyboard, mouse, battery when I'm going to use it and I think it will make things less complicated. I also think Samsung should change their strategy and instead of aiming Dex at the high end devices and people who can afford them, they should be putting it on their mid-range devices and making an inexpensive dock so people who can't afford laptops and expensive phones would use Dex instead of a Chromebook. I have lots of students who are now learning from home who have a phone but can't afford a Chromebook and they would totally use Dex to access their learning if they knew about it and Samsung made it more affordable. Right now they're focusing Dex on people who don't need it because they can afford all the other gadgets. Just something I've been thinking about since we've all been at home during the pandemic.

Thank you Thao! I immediately found that your accessory setting is exactly same as mine. I got it a few weeks ago, too, and noticed same things. I wonder why they didn't fix it before they release it. 1. Painful touchscreen usage. And touchscreen can't be turned off if there's no connected mouse. 2. Screen flipping back if a phone is attached. Another problem is that I can't change touchpad scroll direction. I guess this is probably Samsung Dex issue though. My speaker was defective so I got a replacement.

It seems like you mounted the magnet holder the other way around to how i have it with hinge at the bottom instead of top lol. I wonder if u did that on purpose for bigger phone? I find having hinge at the bottom works for better lining up with the monitor.
