I've had the A8 and I just got a used S8. The A8 has issues regarding the speaker. After some use you can't use it in the higher volumes without hearing cracking. Also, the fingerprint scanner on the S8 (regardless of the placement) is much more responsive. I had to constantly clean it on the A8 for it to scan my print, while with the S8 I quite rarely have to do so. The battery in the S8 isn't bad, you've just used it more. It has a year more of use. I can tell you that the difference after using both phones for a while is very small. In all honesty, both of the phones are very nice phones, and if you're in 2020 looking for a bang for your buck, get an S8. The A8 is for those of you that want a budget sturdy phone that will go through hell and back with you. Mine even survived a dip in the ocean. The S8 is for the performance geeks who don't have money for the A71 and still want premium features.

Well I own a midranger phone and it's not lacking anything. In fact it's even better than a flagship I owned before. So it just depends on your expectations and price you can afford to pay. So I think I'd upgrade to A8 instead of S8 because I don't trust it being as great as it claims to be. And who cares about flagship shine if you already have computers and cameras at home and they are better than any phone can do. So I generally liked A8 when I inspected it for a bit at store. It actually felt as if I can hold in my hand unlike S8 that felt like it'd break if I hold it longer. Also the S8 still has that annoyingly thin body form that makes it look like overstretched. And I've never been a fan of that long screen nor I am to become one so A8 earned another bunch of bonus points. And if the battery is in reality as good as it's on paper I'm sold for A8. Unless A5 2018 isn't even better as it was looking the same from couple random images. If so then I am now between a decision of what to take: A8 or A5 2018... Unless by the time I decide to upgrade (because my A5 2017 is simply amazing and truly brilliant device for pocket friendly price that won over fresher flagship with something as simple as battery life, better looks and waterproofing and just better color choice) there isn't a new and more intriguing device out

I have a Samsung A5 2017 which have lots of features the battery life is really great. I love watching people with S8 walking with battery back power always pluging in. One of the most important thing about not buying a high price flag ship phone. I don't give a crap if it lost ,break or stop working because of the price. I am upgrading to A8

If you really want or need premium performance, go for the premium S8 (or S10), but I personally don't really need a premium phone; I do need a phone that leaves me money for groceries. Kieran I had a look at both phones and compared all specs. It seems It's better to get an old high end phone over a new mid range phone. The A8 is way too expensive for a mid range phone. It had a good screen and camera but the S7's screen is so much better because it is QHD versus only FHD on the S8. Also, the S7's camera is much better with OIS and dual pixel technology whereas the A8 doesn't have this. The S7 also has wireless charging. I also found that in real life the A8 didn't look as good. The S7 also has a better and faster processor. The A8 has a mid range processor. The S7 seems like the better choice.

When I owned the A8, there’s only 2 bad things I could point out: the EIS makes the video look weird sometimes but nothing too serious, the second is audio quality when recording video. Compared to, say, the A5 2017 (the predecessor of the A8), that phone’s audio has much better quality than that of the A8. It let me down a bit, but if you don’t mind, I guess the A8 is a pretty damn good phone for today’s price.

If you can afford buying a new smartphone every year then no. But if you keep it for a few years... all the apps update. If your system doesn't it starts lagging. I have note 3 and it used to be fast as a lightning but it only has android 5 at the moment and it takes forever to start an app or download a page in browser. If it was a cheaper phone some apps would stop working by now probably.

Thank you! The S8 has the SD card slot. However, the A8 has 2 SIM card slots and a dedicated SD card slot. The S8 has a hybrid slot where you can put either 2 SIM cards or 1 SIM and 1 SD card.

I am not one to upgrade phones on a regular basis. I still have a Samsung Galaxy J500FN (from 2016). However, its 8mb of memory is lacking, so it is time to upgrade. I'll stick with the Samsung brand that I'm familiar with. The A8 may be the one I go with. By the way, I don't have many apps on my phone and many things are switched off (until needed, for example wifi and bluetooth), so I can get several days from one single charge.

Hey there, I bought this phone recently and there is a slight problem with the display of colours. Images and icons seem to be weirdly bright. Just got the A8 and I must say: it's operating like a flag ship (trust me, I had several ones). I don't wish to step into details because there are so many, but the 'look & feel' is great in every area. Samsung has dramatically dropped the price for this one. I was a lucky bastard because I was able to take advantage of a €50,- cashback provided by Samsung. I got the phone from my provider (Vodafone) when I extended my subscription and to cut it short: I payed €286,- for it... One hell of a deal! :)
