It is almost 2018 but I kinda interested on this camera.. You can edit your pictures on your camera using many Android photo edit app without the need to transfer the photo to pc or smartphone first.. The picture quality is good, the optical zoom is a nice feature that many smartphone did not have, and also it's a lot cheaper right now

it should, i made calls using google voice. he held it wrong for calling, he had the lens near his face, if you're lefty, you can hold the screen near your face, and the speaker is by your ear, and mic is by your mouth near the shutter button. i used a bluetooth on this as well for easier calling.

A big plus this video just showed me is having Bluetooth on board. I know you'd expect any android device these days to have such a thing but no where I searched for the details of the galaxy camera mentioned more than cell and WiFi radios. My point? I'd be plenty content using a bt ear piece to make up for lack of normal ear piece and mic placements. Just needs VoIP and it's good.

Got a used version 2 of this camera and I am impressed. They did do something about the battery life and the housing is slimmer, the memory larger and Android one version newer. If you happen to be where Wifi is readily available, you could make this your phone with Skype - well, almost. Pretty happy with it so far, but I am keeping my smartphone.

If it's an important event? Then the answer is yes I do. For time I don't have my D5200 then I still have my Panasonic LX series which I do carry Everywhere! It all depends on how serious you are about photography. I for one take my photography seriously because a good glass lens does make a difference.

Because calls are generally to and from mobile or land lines, calls that this isn't capable of doing without Skype or Gvoice. Having data constantly on, would burn thru the battery very fast even with all the power saving features on. If that ok with you, then it's a totally capable device. I havent tested the battery life with calls since I don't make too many myself and it's naturally very dependant on use scenarios.

Very slick and informative presentation. Even an elderly chap understood it, thanks!
@BlaznAngel0112 жыл бұрын
well yea, but i dont see much difference between using a native phone app over Gvoice.. Call goes through and works. Texting works the same too. When i found that out, i cut my Talk and Text plans since they're basically a rip off.. but yea those are the only two things i wish it had to be honest, bigger battery and that Photosphere feature the nexus 4 has.. other than that, great device..

@esaedvik12 жыл бұрын
This is actually very nice for "office" calling (the speaker has more room than in a phone and the quality is really good and the mic is on top of the device), but on the go it's better if you have a headset. I couldn't get my Nokia J bluetooth headset to work for some reason and I'm testing a wired headset tomorrow. No idea why this wouldn't detect it, since my SGS3 does just fine.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note2 and I bought this camera for the actual camera itself and to have the android OS as well. I bought the Wifi model of this. I get great battery life, but I presume that is because it's not always connected to a wifi, so I turn it off. I can tether it to my note 2's wifi hotspot if needed, but that is rare. great video, but I like the size of this, and it's functionality. I'm prob a rare case though. =)

If it's a VOIP app, it'll work just fine. Viber etc. will work also. Only ones that are capable of calling real cell numbers as well as receiving calls from cell and landlines are Skype and Google voice afaik.

Lol it's funny I was just watching review videos about this camera and I was thinking if there was anyone out there crazy enough to try it. Love the fact you tried it. And yes it does not make phone calls. But there is Skype and viber. I believe with the better battery I can get away with it being a: music player, phone/tab, camera and GPS. awesome! Does it also have NFC? that's something I have not heard mentioned.

Me too. I hate the camera on my SGS3 and this has yielded much better pics. You can make and receive calls via Skype number service or Gvoice (it's a bit limited in Europe afaik).
@quigon87yt12 жыл бұрын
Can't really use it as a phone but you can use it as a camera thus requiring a separate phone device to go with this camera. The cell phone? camera is on the large side & costs $499.99 aprox. In that case I would just keep my current cell phone and purchase compact or full size DSLR only. You can get a full size DSLR Nikon D3100 for the Same price and still get better pictures. Well that's how I would play it, since I already own a Nikon D5100 & a Samsung Galaxy S III & this works for me.

I meant every day, everywhere, all the time. That is the kinda camera this is and an SLR is not. No comparison what so ever. I've been a photographer for over 10 years and I hate lugging an SLR with me. For everyday shots I'd rather use my phone since it really isn't about the quality of the shot, but the shot itself. There's nothing to a photo that was never taken, but if you take it, it always creates a reaction, no matter what it was shot with. That's the essence of photography for me.
@BlaznAngel0112 жыл бұрын
it DOES.. idunno why every "Rep" of companies keeps saying you can't make calls on it, i made 5 calls right from the samsung demo unit right in front of them lol.. Any VOIP app works on it just like on the tablets. I was gonna buy this next as my phone since i cut my cell contract and now use a mobile hotspot from Verizon. But then i won a raffle at the mall and won a Note II.. So i've been playing with that for now.. I hope they make a second gen of this cam, bigger battery is a must.

As I stated above I do carry my Panasonic LX Everywhere! and actually I just leave it in the car. I've been taking pictures for over 30 years now [NO! I'm not a photographer] and having a decent camera matters more then a convenience camera. Then again I'm not crazy about sticking a camera/phone thingy to more ears anyway. So I always have my Galaxy S3 & my Panasonic with me at all times! but that's the way I roll and that's what works for me. Your mileage may vary. [Umm that was a joke BTW]

I agree it must be made with better battery life. and 3g with bigger screen and with faster processor with phone calling capabilities accurate GPS like "compact camera grade superior camera -smartphone" even if its bulky it will be usefull then on later versions it could become slimer and thus more comfortable to carry but retaining its superior camera function

There isn't any difference, other than most people don't have Gvoice (it's US/UK only) or any VOIP for that matter. So there's that. When Facebook comes up with one on their Messenger, it'll get quite a boost though.

You're totally missing the point. The camera in this is worth around $300 alone (the sensor is twice the size of an other Android device+it has a 21x zoom and optical image stabilization), the rest is basically a SGS3 bringing it all the utility of an Android device.
@BlaznAngel0112 жыл бұрын
Yea i ported my number to Google Voice, so it forwards to all my devices and I call out and text and people had no idea i made the switch.. Which is great so its not like a mandatory skype to skype or something like that.. It can be any number.. Instead of paying tmobile $110, i only pay $50 now using Verizons hotspot. One of the best moves i've done lol.. Yea i gotta look into that FB feature, haven't read up on it yet..
