I like the camera improvements (both of them), and the look, but I'm disappointed in the speaker being returned to the back (I guess it has to do with the metal trim), and the USB 3.0 port is gone. I wasn't looking to upgrade right away, but small things like this make me want to hold out more. The software improvements look great though, and I hope they are eventually upgraded on the Note 3; it can definitely handle them.

It's a good enough improvement over my Note 3 that I'll be getting this one too. I was disappointed that they didn't go hard on the camera more tho, while improved, the iphone's camera still took pictures as well if not better half the time. PLus Sony fits a bigger and better sensor in a slightly smaller phone. I was one of those holding out for a radical stomp to Apple's nuts.

Apple make camera lens protrude 0.5 mm - everyone hates it. Samsung uses some kind of metal to make 5% of the phone - huge improvement in design. This is not real innovation here, just some minor spec bumps. I am somewhat disappointed, but at least they stopped trying to make the thing bigger.

I got a chance to play with the Note 4 today! Best Buy has working display models in their "Samsung Galaxy Experience" section! They only had the frost white model. Coming from a Note 3, the three things the impressed me the most were: (1) how much softer and more leather-like the back plastic felt on the white Note 4, compared to my white Note 3. (2) How noticeably crisp and clear the quad-HD screen was, in comparison to my 1080p Note 3 screen. And (3) as much flack as this has received, how insanely LOUD that back-facing speaker is! I seriously have never heard any Samsung phone that loud before! It's majorly, significantly louder than the Note 3, which (IMO) was pretty loud. I couldn't even turn it up to its highest volume level because it was literally blaring over all of the other background electronic and people noise! Perhaps the only phone that is louder, may be the HTC One M8. And I've never heard one, so the Note 4 could actually match the loudness, but not the bass clarity. The metal trim was actually quite nice and did feel good. The camera is really nice and snappy... pun intended. The overall interface is much nicer on 4.4.4. The demo photos and videos were in another galaxy! There's a city life demo video and the clarity, the colors, the crispness, I mean lots of people say you won't be able to see a difference between 1080p and qHD, but that's definitely erroneous. There was a difference. It wasn't an earth shattering difference, but it was enough to actually make a bit of a deal about it. I will be be upgrading to the Note 4 on AT&T! Can't wait!

Doug Lewis You're welcome. The speaker has little to no bass reproduction, but it's still very loud and mostly clear. You'll hear bass with headphones attached, of course.

Nice Edit job on the video ! I like how you got rid of the background noise unlike most others. One thing I would have addressed though is the fact that it is the new Snapdragon 805 that allows for the quick charge function. Samsung did enable it however I have never heard about it requiring any kind of special battery. Thanks for the great video !

I can't believe the amount of hate on the note 4.... the software on this thing is gold when it comes to multitasking and the s pen. It is the most advanced, feature packed form of android. Yes it does have a lot of unnecessary things (the heart rate monitor's selfie shortcut is it's first actual use imo) but you don't have to use them. And you have to understand. .. IT IS NOT MEANT FOR EVERYONE (S5 is ment to address all) ... but it is, by far, the best business smartphone. I am a note 3 user and I love my phone and I think I will make the upgrade but I'll wait a few months.

Touchwiz was CRAP when the processing power available was to little to run the heavy skin. I have experienced this first hand with the S1 and S3. But since the S4, touchwiz LAG is no longer an issue. Note 3 is a Beast and Note 4 will probably be Godzilla.

***** I am sorry for your trouble. I had issues with the s1 and s3 but I had no problems with s4 and Note 3. In regards to s5... I've played with one belonging to a friend and didn't see such a problem and he didn't complain about lag and neither did I see such things in reviews... just that it is thik with unnecessary features but not slow by any means. Who knows why our experience with the same device is so different. I hate lag just like everyone, but I don't mind feature packed software even when it is mostly unnecessary :p If you are done with Samsung you could go for the One +one... you save a lot of money and get an awesome cyanogen experience.

gregor clegane I actually really work on my note 3. I'm a medical representative, I run all day between doctors' offices, I get mails constantly, I have to use Excell a lot, I have to report my visits online and all sorts of stuff. And I do all that while I wait to enter a doctor's office. I consider the gesture detection unnecessary but it requires no extra hardware I'ts just a harmless trick that I keep turned off. The heart rate monitor I consider unnecessary but they will eventually make it more useful like they just made it a selfie trigger. Still useless but it might eventually do some more nice things.

+Emily Holling I went from the Galaxy S3 to the Note 4, while it looks much bigger the phone is not unwieldy and I am really enjoying the bigger screen. Of course phone size is a personal preference so while I like it you may not. I suggest that you actually hold one to see how it feels before purchasing one.

King Narkysos if you have the Note 3 then imo there's no real reason to upgrade, but if you have the Note 2 or just interested in investing in the Note line then imho this device is a winner for Samsung. Samsung really needs to invest in revamping their design and also get rid of that damn physical home button.

I Finn I completely agree. It should and will appeal to many people. I guess my expectations were just a little too high. The same thing happened when the Note 3 came out and I swore I wasn't going to get it, as I type on it in my hands right now. I'm looking at the S5 and all other IP 67 devices at this point which the Note 4 is not. I see real advantages to that kind of water and dust resistance. Something that I'm bummed about is that I haven't heard of any Nexus device in the near future having this rating (smh) that would seal the deal for me honestly

Well, in my country, there is a "buy-back" service (at least on a contract, there is). This service offers you the possibility to trade in your phone to the shop you bought it from and then you add a certain amount of money and you can buy another phone. Say you go to the shop, say you want to trade in your S5 for a Note 4. You give them the S5 + an amount of money if the Note 4 is more expensive than the S5 and then they give you a brand new Note 4. I'm an iPhone user and I sell mobile phones and while I PREFER my iPhone for my own uses, we got our Note 4 Demo units in store and on display and I'm EXTREMELY impressed with it. Best screen I've seen on a phone so far and when I got it in my hand it was the first time I held a phone so large without actually feeling like it was that big. Feels great in the hand. I also am not a fan of white phones, but I LOVE how this phone looks in white. Gorgeous.

5:37 see the 2 second lag there. I'm not even trolling. The phone he was using had barely been used for more than 10 hours I'd assume, and as you can see it was already lagging. I have a gs4 and when you call people, exactly like he did in the video, its lags for about 5 secs. So on my 1.5 year old phone it lags 5-10 secs and on the brand new note 4 it lags 2 secs. This should be reason enough to not buy this phone. Wait for the new bigger iphone or get a htc, anything but a samsung.

I just got my Note 4 exactly 2 days ago . I want to love this phone, really I do I spent a lot of money on it, but I do wish I would have waited to see what the new Nexus can do. I'll tell you the things that have already put me off. First it is almost the same design. It's kinda embarrassing to show friends your 800 dollar phone and it looks like your old Note 3. Two, I ABSOLUTELY hate the way that the screen goes into retardo saturation mode when I am in an outdoor bright environment. Three, when I put it next to my Note 3 you can clearly see that the screen is actually dimmer on the Note 4, even when looking at the same picture on full brightness mode. The Note 4 has this yellow tint to it, no matter what display mode it was put in. Although to be fair, now I am able to dim the screen low enough to be able to use it in my bed at night without burning my retinas off. Battery improved a lot. I can get a day and a half with HEAVY use. I don't use the fast charging mode to preserve my battery life but the phone charges quickly even with it off. touch Wiz did not get lighter, the phone is still bloated and I hate that it feels super laggy. I have never wanted to root a phone, that is why I buy top end devices. However I really am considering rooting my Note 4 to really be able to use the high end specs it advertises. It is still a great phone, but if you are coming from a Note 3, you might be disappointed....

We don't need 1080p either, but here we are. The snapdragon 805 is extremely capable of rendering qhd with no trouble at all. Qhd on a phone with these specs doesn't to jack shit against battery or performance. So it might as well go with the trend since its not actually doing any harm. And even though it isn't a huge improvement, its still an improvement on image quality.

I gotta say I started looking into Samsung because a particular incident in my anatomy class. In my anatomy class we need to ID certain types of tissues that we see through a microscope so everyone whipped out their phones to take pictures of the samples *through the lens of the microscope* to study. The galaxy s5 of my classmate effortlessly was able to stabilize the shaky quality that most other phones got, including my HTC 1. This is no joke believe it or not the camera on these Samsung's are amazing. U try to take a photo through the lens of a light microscope, it's impossible without very high dexterity.

Love the Note 4! I have a Note 3 and this is a significant upgrade in terms of software and definitely hardware. So glad they went with premium build materials, it's really about time! My only complaint is that they went with the rear facing loudspeaker, which I had on my Galaxy S2. I love that the Note 3's speaker is on the bottom facing out as it doesn't muffle out the sound. Awaiting your review and I would love to see a test of the loudspeaker while the phone is flat on a table.

Just got back from Best Buy and held this baby in person and man I got to say I was very impressed. The built quality feels very premium and extremely durable. Watching the 2K videos preloaded into the phone was a really beautiful experience. Samsung has really nailed it this time with the overall aesthetics of the phone. I'm definitely preordering mine now. I am damn sold!

I played around with the 6plus and note 4 yesterday at the mall for a bit and i have to say the note4 feels real sturdy unlike previous models. The 6plus feels boring when holding the device to use. I like the fact that the note4 has a s-pen to use. I'll be honest the apple phones feels a bit smoother but i also feel like it's just a 5s with bigger screen. Apple will need to step up their game a bit if they want me to switch.

kindly, When u hand on the note 4 on the 1st of October, remember to mention the ram consumption when freshly turn on the device, Battery consumption on the Snapdragon Vs Exynos "as Exynos supposed to be 20 nm while S.D 805 is 28 nm so theoretically Exynos should more power efficient and more powerful" as i'm planning to upgrade but don't know which processor to choose to power this lovely device ;) Good luck, Keep it up

I've had the Note 3 since October of last year and it's the best phone I've had period. I doubt that the note 4 is better. I definitely won't be upgrading because I have the Note 3 which is plenty big and powerful and I plan to keep it at least another full year.

The first Samsung phone I'm willing to consider, I could see my next phone being the Samsung note curve (I like the curved side personally, it does look useful to me) now that they are actually using some premium materials. As for the battery cover hopefully I can get a replacement metal one... if it really ends up bothering me, but I think the plastic one will be fine.

Awesome Review. Thanks for the heads up ! I knelt down with the Note 3 in my pocket and ripped the 3.5mm headphone jack socket clean out of the handset while bending my Bose plug on the third day of ownership. That's when I regretted buying a phone of such ordinary build. Hopefully the new ali body will at least save the phone from a similar event for other users now.
