I used to have an Note 4 for short animations and quick sketches. Note styluses don't have very high pressure sensitivity, but has quick responsive rate to make up for the loss. The only major issue I had with the phone was it can't handle extensive sessions with drawing/animation. This became the main cause of toasting the Note's motherboard. That's how progress work. Back in the day, smartphones were still in its earlier stage, where each company is looking to find its own form. When they got it, they'll stick to it and improve on that until it hits a plateau. So no, it's impossible to expect extreme improvement nowadays on smartphones, because the technology for it is pretty much almost hitting the ceiling by now. I'm not saying that we will stuck with this technology forever. But if we want a new revolution, it'll be in a different form, not a smartphone we generally know nowadays.

Got this phone on day 1. Have been using it for college. It performs the same if not better than my iPhone 7+ (battery-wise). Maybe in pure raw screen-on time it lacks in battery life, but I have the resolution maxed (although not the brightness) and play games in my time between classes. So mileage may vary. Also I must note (haha) that most applications I use have their background set to black (including my keyboard background), thus the amoled display eats less power. the stylus is priceless to jot down quick stuff before class ends when the teacher goes "oh and by the way pop quiz tomorrow" or something similar.
@zenderzagato81747 жыл бұрын
Dima Ant have you ever tried using it for pure note taking?
@_sn_7 жыл бұрын
Zender Zagato, I've been using my note 4 for note taking in college for most of my freshman year and all of my sophomore year (so far) and I prefer it much more than traditional note taking. You get to take notes directly on the lecture slides (if they're provided), so you spend less time copying and more time listening and taking important side notes. You also get the experience of writing stuff down which supposedly helps with remembering it. I think the only upgrade I could make from what I currently do is buy a Surface Pro (screen real estate and easier file transfer), but that'd be adding another expensive device I need to keep track of.

I turned most things off because notifications create a false sense of urgency on the mind. My phone lasts the whole day and I text, browse the web, listen to music, etc...at work. I just have my financial accounts, text voicemail, and messages notify me. Everything else I check when I get good and ready.

As usual great job overall, like the categories and the systematic way you present the phone. At this point I would suggest creating sub-categories and scores for example for display and performance, and have an overall score of the phone with possibly extra points for unique features like this one. Dunno just to make it easier to compare between Alf this featured and competitors imo.

Anyone who says the Note 8 has poor battery life does not know how to properly optimize their phone. You can get 6-7hours of SOT with the Note 8 at 1440p you just need to use and properly configure Greenify and use app disabler software to disable bloat and not to mention clean the Cache Partition. Optimize your phone so you can get better battery life.
@jmsantiago17 жыл бұрын
JCHGaming69 he is reviewing the phone as it comes out of the box. Of course if you tweak things, disable things, or modify things you'll get better results but that's not the point. The Note series at first was designed for the true power user with huge battery life and they've turned away from that route
@ReviewTechTexas7 жыл бұрын
So true power users are lazy and un-tech savy?LOL, I get your point, IMO I think the Note 8 should have had a 3600mah battery (Like the S7 Edge had), it would have been bigger battery than the s8 Plus and with how big the Note 8 is I think that capacity would have been plenty safe and I think battery life with that capacity out of the box would have been just fine even for power users, Despite having a 3600mah battery and being smaller than the Note 8 the S7 edge never was recalled or pulled of the shelf for the battery issues the Note 7 had and they still manufacture it with the same battery size to this day, so I doubt the Note 8 would have Note 7 esque battery issues if they went with that capacity but than again who knows.
@jmsantiago17 жыл бұрын
JCHGaming69 I agree, I know Samsung wanted to stay in a "safe" margin with the battery but like you said I really think they could've squeezed a healthy 3,500/3,600mah in the phone
@RonanTetsu7 жыл бұрын
JCHGaming69 oneplus 5t can do much better by default. and honestly greenfiy and all that shit is a waste of time. cache partition probably doesn't impact battery life. But some small modifications can help a lot....Google wake Locks is gg
@ReviewTechTexas7 жыл бұрын
Really? I remember I had the S8 Active and when I cleared the cache partition it improve my battery quite a bit. I recently started using a indie app called Naptime which enables doze quicker than Greenify, but I still use Greenify as my app manager. With BK Disabler set to disable bloat and app services I don't use or need and using Greenify to hibernate my apps along with using Naptime as my doze app my battery life on my note has been amazing. Without using it my Note 8 drop from 100% to 99 percent in 5 hours which you can't say that for most phones.

So it's either spend $1000 on a note 8 or iPhone X. I used to be a android user but now I'm apple user but if I were to spend $1000 on a phone I'd get the note 8 so I can get most use out of it.

I'm waiting for the iPhone X because I'm hardwired into the Apple Ecosystem, but if I were an Android user I'd either get the S8+ or wait to see what the Pixel 2 turns out to be. Note 8 isn't worth the price bump from the S8+, and even at the same price I still might choose the S8+ for the battery life alone.
@머쓸이7 жыл бұрын
is iphone 8 worth the price? considering how incremental upgrade it is over the last gen
@Alexdiggerman7 жыл бұрын
brown bobby not if you have an iPhone 7
@cadenza237 жыл бұрын
brown bobby it depends on what phone you have currently. It they had named it 7S people would consider it a major upgrade, but since they switched the number, the expectations are high for how much should change, and it doesn't meet those expectations. It is a pretty major S upgrade though. Wireless charging, tru-tone display, 4k 60fps recording, enhanced portrait mode, durability improvements, A11 bionic. Basically the only things the X has that the 8 doesn't are the new display, dual OIS, Face ID, and front facing portrait mode. That's worth the extra $300 to me but maybe not to everyone else.

Sumanth M Rao I think he gets that. If you are a hard core spen user you are already sold, no need to state the obvious. For those of us who don’t care about the spen, which is 99.9% of us then we can decide does the rest of the package add up to $1000. I think it is obviously not worth that, and no the iPhone X is also not worth $1000 either. The good news is that in a few months this will be selling for big discounts. Maybe then it will be on the radar but to be honest the next Snapdragon will be out and better phones will be out.

Battery doesn't hold as well as it once did. Screen isn't as receptive to touch as it once was and other issues. I've done factory reset in the past year, wiped everything off the phone, and anything else I could do. The Note 8 was a solid phone. Nearly 4 years of use. If the phone still received Android software updates I'd almost just buy a new one.
