Great Video! Very thorough and detailed. I have a question for you.. I recently purchased this phone and the power button completely fell off and Samsung won't cover it and wants to charge me $200 on top of it to fix it. I'm just gonna order a replacement button and do it myself. How far do I have to go into this process to be able to reinstall a new button? If necessary at all. Do the buttons just pop or do I definitely need to take the back off and some parts to get access to those side buttons from the inside. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
@jamesSmith-hg1tf Жыл бұрын
Also, do you recommend any phone repair kits that include those tools you used to remove the back, screws, wires, etc.. they look very helpful to have down the road and the mass amount of knowledge I've gained of phone construction throughout watching this video. It all seems so simple now I'm 100% confident I'm able to do any phone part replacement now, so thank you mu friend!
@PBKreviews Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Some buttons can be pushed in/popped into place from the outside and some have to be inserted internally so not sure you can try the first method and if it doesn't work then try from inside. As for internally, you would need to remove the back plate, the screws and cover over the motherboard, and disconnect the cables on the motherboard and remove it since it is seated on the flex cable for the power button. Then you can pull up on the metal bracket in the slot on the frame to pull out the power button flex, giving you access to the physical button itself.
@jamesSmith-hg1tf Жыл бұрын
Ok. I appreciate it. Hopefully it just pops right in but if not I'm pretty confident I can get to it internally with the help of this video if I have to. Samsung warranty is a joke so I'll definitely be fixing it myself. Thanks.

In your opinion wouldn't be better for current phones to use metal body on the back for better heat transfer from the SOC?
@PBKreviews3 жыл бұрын
Its always better for heat transfer with aluminum bodies etc. The only thing is that it runs more pricey and they run into antenna signal issues and requires special placement of antennas since the signal doesn't travel through the metal.

May I know that what's the difference between (ghapite film) & the (heat pipe) as seen on the recent Galaxy A72? Which type of these dissipates heat faster?
@PBKreviews3 жыл бұрын
I have yet to see the A72 internals, but graphite film is usually used on the main board parts or over the battery, and the 3D layer of graphite is what you see on the midframe right under where the processor of the main board would lay. The 3D layer of graphite does just as well if not better than the copper heat pipes. It lasts longer also since the small droplets of liquid in the heat pipe can evaporate over time.

I feel like this is probably a pointless post considering how old this video is, but... My frame got bent yesterday and the phone froze for a few seconds before going black. Now it 'doesn't turn on' (the repair shop said it's turning on and then quickly cycling, over and over again) and I'm told it needs board work. Obviously, that's not going to be worthwhile considering repair costs more than replacing. What I'm curious of is whether or not in this kind of state there's any hope of being able to get it to boot enough to extract a backup from it. IE if the mainboard is somehow touching the frame now, is it simply too far gone no matter what I try, or could I separate it from the frame, have it all connected but loose, and possibly get it to boot? Obviously it's not 'usable' like this, but having it booted and sitting on a desk would allow me to do the backup/transfer onto a new phone..
@PBKreviews29 күн бұрын
There is a chance the board is damaged, could be broken solder points on the board and so forth. But possible to remove it from the frame if the frame is keeping it bent or applying too much pressure on it and try straightening the frame or powering the board on while its not fully seated in the frame to see if it will work. But the power button flex cable contacts are on the frame so you would need to also peel that off the frame to hold under the board to touch the contacts in order to be able to power it on.

Now, there was a loose cable but after fixing that and putting everything together, i wanted to try to see if it works so I didn't put the screws back. Now, it charges and I can actually see the screen, but it won't power up. Is there any connector that affects the power button or is it not powering on because of not being screwed back properly? I'll answer the second as I assume the answer will take time. So, any other reason it wouldn't power on even w a charge?
@PBKreviews Жыл бұрын
Yes the motherboard sits on the flex cable for the volume and power button and makes a connection. So if its not screwed down, the power button wont work. You can always hold down the motherboard to the frame to make it touch and have a connection without screwing it down.

Idk if I'm stupid and should've just known about this beforehand or not but I thought that my charging port needed to be replaced/cleaned so I took the phone apart to do so and some screws touched the motherboard and short-circuited it, causing my phone to be rendered useless. At the time I didn't know that though, I tried (and failed) to clean the charging port, then tried (and failed) to put the phone back together. I took it to a store that fixes phones the next day. Employee puts it back together and looks at it for 5 seconds. "You just needed to clean the charging port." He cleans it for me, and comes back. Then he tells me about the motherboard, and how it would be more expensive to replace that than to get a new phone. He also told me I should've just brought it to them first, and... yeah. I should've. But he commended me for trying at least, so, that's something.

Question, I'm using a signal booster. Where is the internet antenna on this phone? I'd like to know because it's recommended to get the phone's antenna as close to the booster as possible. 5:12, is this it?

Hi, no it would either be on the bottom portion of the phone or the top portion and I believe there would be one on top and bottom so there wouldn't be any blocked signals from a persons hand covering it. Antutu and other technical app have told me that my battery capacity is 4370mAh. At first, I thought it's a misreading or something but when I open the back of my phone to change the adhesive because the back is coming off, I noticed that the battery is really a 4370mAh. Is that sketchy?
@BloodyIron3 жыл бұрын
It's really infuriating how hard they make it to remove the battery. I'm mostly talking about the glue, but so much else could have been done to make it easily replaceable. Even in an airport without tools! I do like how easily removable so many other parts are (apart from the heat gun parts). So that's a good thing. But the battery part is the deal breaker for me.
@PBKreviews3 жыл бұрын
Yup, now a days you can also use isopropyl alcohol to loosen up the adhesive underneath making it easier to pry the battery off but ya you would not be able to do it at an airport :). I don't mind these type of internal batteries but if at least they provided some sort of contacts on the back like how the moto z line of phones had attachable accessories and add on's, one would be able to put an external battery on even if the internal battery stopped working or went bad. Or they can just make it a tad bit easier to replace the internal batteries :)

@moneyisking7773 жыл бұрын
You can go to samsung center
@PBKreviews3 жыл бұрын
The noise you hear is the camera assembly itself. The camera lens move around in their enclosures/slots and make that noise. Also this phone has a 3D layer of graphite and not a copper heat plate so I don't think anything would have moved around, nor any thermal paste would have dried up since it doesn't use that. Might be some running apps in the background or water damage which can cause phone to over heat.

Yes the storage is on the motherboard. There are multiple antennas in the phone. Not sure exactly which is for what, but you would need to make sure the top and bottom plastic covers are in place properly and screwed down since they have antenna lines drawn through them. Also the red white and blue wire cables or coaxial cables are used for antenna connections as well so you would need to make sure those are connected and have not come loose. Finally the sub board or charger port board and motherboard have contacts on them as well which would need to properly be seated on the frame.
