Matthews, thanks for the highlights on the main differences. S20 Ultra is just a perfect phone for me that lasted nicely for almost 3 years. But frankly, it's not now, as Samsung broke the x1 main camera focusing with the Android 12 upgrade. First with the One UI 4.0 upgrade Samsung switched off the constant voltage on the camera gyroscope (to save the battery life I assume) and the flagship phone turned into a rattling joke... But it was working flawlessly. But the last bit was an upgrade with the Android 12 that as I've mentioned earlier broke the main camera focusing which is simply frustrating. It was not fixed with any of the next 3 or 4 updates since then. Official Samsung Support is not willing to fix (replace the camera module) the device free of charge, asking for 60% of its market price for the job. That's by all means unacceptable :( So despite my S20 Ultra being in perfect condition, is working perfectly and smoothly I had to switch it to S23 Ultra :(. I'm now literally waiting for Smart Switch to finish its job with mixed fillings. It's not a big upgrade in terms of functionality and I think the price for this upgrade S20U -> S23U is ridiculously high for an S-Pen and better camera set. So if your S20U is working fine it's not worth it unless you can't live without those improvements. Love my S20 Ultra and hope will love S23 Ultra at least the same. In conclusion, I must say that if the situation with the planned obsoletion of S23 Ultra is repeated I'll drop my whole Samsung ecosystem for Apple!

I have to say I agree. Since a long time ago, I have suspected that the planned obsolescence for Samsung it's more than a myth, and I can attest to it. Almost every single Galaxy phone I had in the past decade started to see a degradation in performance at about 2.5 to 3 years for no appeareant reasons. The so called long term security patches are simply a fairytale if the phone it's slower and slower after 2-3 years.

The biggest difference between the 2 is the camera. Especially when it comes to zooming and low light photo. The s20 ultra only has a 4x optical zoom while s23 ultra has 10× optical zoom. The other difference is filming in 4k / 60p . On S20 ultra, you can do it but without any kind of zooming capabilities. Last but not least , it is the support issue. The s20 ultra will get security updates only until mid 2024 unless Samsung will change their mind. While I do not think it is really worth upgrading now from s20 ultra to s23 ultra, next year it may be a different story. The other thing to keep in mind is the pricing. S20 ultra was more expensive when it came on the market than the S23 ultra is today(I would say by quite a bit).A lesson that Samsung has probably learnt from the S20 ultra is that a phone, even though ultra high end, can not have an insane price, which was the case back in the days when S20 ultra was launched.

Yes so I have the Samsung s20 Ultra which I purchased for $1,000 at Costco which was a great deal at the time. But I don't understand you saying that Samsung has learned that they can't attach that large price tag? Right now if you search for the Samsung s23 Ultra, the price is still almost $1,400. Phone is still top-notch, but that's still a hefty price tag. Eventually I will probably get the s24 ultra when it comes out but I am hoping that they're not going to attach insane price tags especially with this in economy. I hope they don't make the phone smaller though. The big screen is a huge draw for me because I pretty much watch everything on my phone. As for security updates ending for the s20 ultra in mid 2024, I was planning to keep this as a backup phone. Isn't it still worth keeping it as a backup phone? And how can I protect myself in the event that I need to use it for backup?

I'd say the jump from s20 series to s21 in terms of camera is huge the s20 series especially the ultra had so much focusing issues and with software updates its gotten fixed but it's still far from profection

Great video! I own both my takeaway, one is trading up to two to three times speed on paper, it shows, but it's because your jumping up to a 2k+ screen with better power management versus 1080p. Just think of your laptop or PC. The pen let's you sign contracts easily, giving some increased security of your docs. Camerawise, I'll tell you I've not had a great digital camera since my little pocket 1.2 Mp Minolta, to be honest. I chalk great digital cameras up to a great optical zoom. Time will tell. Can't complain. Handles my stock tracking tools like a champ with memory to spare. I have the 8 gig. I expect this to be a reasonable gaming device if you don't have a steam device. I have big hands so I'd even pay for a 7 inch or 7.5 same specs really. Saved 500 not getting the max spec. Figure cloud and personal cloud let's one have access to additional storage over solid 6e and latest cell standard, keep data close. Sure now is the time.

I have S20 Ultra. I changed my phone every year til 20 ULTRA, but I am huge Galaxy fan I had all of them from S2 to this beast. Best phone of my life. For me the most important: Resolution ( 3200x2160), Screen size ( 6.9"), IP68... S23 ULTRA Camera much better, but I don't like the shape. Remimd me the note series or Sony Xperia both of them dissapeared.

i have the S20 ultra 5G 16gb ram and i just havent had reason to upgrade , i paid alot at launch and it certianly paid off bc its still banging out performance on par with new phones, i wanna upgrade but there isnt any new phone that screams upgrade. hoping the s24 ultra snapdragon 8 gen 3 is that much better and why dont they come in 16gb ram? like S20 Ultra did i game alot on phone and use youtube in background so it comes in handy.

I own as my main device the S22 Ultra, and as my backup device the S20 Ultra Aura Red color, still is a beautiful device, it's not as pretty as my s22 but it looks like it means business, still runs as fast as smooth as my s22 ultra, were you can see the age is in the zoom game, 5x and 10x are still pretty decent, 30x usable and 100x not great but still better then some phones released this year, apart from the superior hardware 3x and 10x optical zoom which makes a huge difference in 30x and 100x, Spen, note boxy design and a bit better battery life, the s20 Ultra is still a beast of a device, and quality/price ratio is the best value ultra at the moment, also note 20 ultra basically the same

Both the s20 ultra NES 23 Ultra have focusing issues with the s20 ultra was not fixable because it's actually a hardware problem

Still have it on mine (after the Android 12 upgrade). 1x main camera is not focusing normally by default. You must nudge the phone for the focusing system to reinitialize and refocus. I'm living for almost a year with this. Irritating. Got S23U to save my nerves, if this is repeated I'm switching to Apple.

I'm not gonna lie, I prefer some of the s20 ultra pictures, but s23 ultra definitely captures more realistic photos in most of the cases. Performance to me is negligible, second or two doesn't matter, however it's the design of s20 series that is ugly in comparison to s21 and above.

Personally I have an S20 ultra and an S21 ultra. I don't really see the point of changing unless I have a very good opportunity (which happens to me often). The S23 doesn't interest me too much, especially since I'm not a fan of the S pen and since the S21 ultra supports the S pen... The price of the S23 ultra is exorbitant. Maybe I'll take it in 2 years and again.

The S23 ultra does have some stuff the other ones are missing. Like the larger 200mp sensor that allows a better low light performance plus the zooming capabilities when compared against the S20 ultra. If it's worth paying the price or not, this is becoming a trickier question than in the past. For the past 2 generations,unlike what was traditionally done in the past, Samsung no longer dropped the price for older models when a new one arrives. Therefore S22 ultra and S23 ultra have more or less the same price,despite the fact the S22 is the older model.So waiting for a new model to appear in order to see a price drop for S23 is a strategy that may not work anymore. You may get some discounts from carriers who may want to get rid of their older stocks but not from Samsung.

@Jean Augustin s20 ultra still is running the latest os one ui 5.1. This is s20's last os update but it is still the latest os. There isn't much difference between s20 and s23 in day to day normal usage . I would say if you're phone is working fine then maybe wait another year for s24 ultra. But if you want the latest and greatest and are getting a decent trade in then go for s23 ultra
