I have AOD turned on on my S3F and i can tell what time it is without a gesture just fine. It does eat into battery life a bit but i'm getting 2 days out of it without any issues so it doesn't seem to be a big thing. Literally when i get home from work, i drop it on my charger and have dinner with the wife relax for a bit and put the watch back on for sleep tracking and rinse and repeat. If i do forget to charge the watch, no problem. It will chug along through another day without going into battery saving mode

In the settings you can activate autoselect where you dont have to press the touchscreen to activate things, which will on their own after a short time. And checking your heart rate can be done via a widget which you can place right next to your homescreen.

Good luck, Juan. Eager to see what you find as a suitable replacement. I ended up with the Garmin Vivosmart HR+. It tracks my activities, heart rate, sleep, notifies me, has battery for days, and I can use it in the sun! I miss the way the notifications were on Android Wear, and the apps (Music controls were awesome!), and the voice controls, but the sunlight visibility and battery life is amazing. I hope your quest ends sooner rather than later.

The Gear S3 is amazing for fitness tracking with SHealth. On that use the Android wear is very limited use even with Google Fit but in this ecosystem you can get all notifications going spam mode to the watch. If you don't mind a smartwatch that does not looks like a real watch and notifications is the most important thing to you then go with Android wear (wait to see the incoming Google's Smartwatches) and if you need the best fitness tracking in a smartwatch (not smartband) that looks like a hardcore watch then go with the S3 Frontier. All I known is that my old Sony Smartwatch 3(very good SW ,BTW) is now part of my personal museum of old tech gadgets.

+pocketnow Normally I never post responsed to review videos, but I feel that you came to your conclusion on this watch as an Iphone user. I own the Gear S2 and have ordered the S3. I have not experienced any of the issues that you speak of since owning the watch. Of course some of the features won't work on an Iphone as I'm sure that it's an Apple issue and not a Samsung issue. The same can be said for android wear, because I've also owned the Moto 360 and all of it's features didn't work on the iphone either. Apple is not competition friendly. This is a very disingenuous review. The pebble is not that great of a smart watch and is easily replaced by this watch and many other smart watches.

I got a Gear S2 for Christmas, and I am not having the problems you're reporting. I always get my notifications, be it texts, emails, or other reminders, within a second of it coming through to my Pixel. And the setup wasn't very hard, yes, you need to download the Gear App and S Health, but I found setup to be quite simple. And I've also had no problems with the Bluetooth on my S2. It may be a problem with the S3, but I have no clue

Hmm... I see a pattern that says this review may be biased and or he could not resist creating a negative just for the sake of being a reviewer which, tells me that I cannot trust his opinion. No worries. I have a Samsung Note 8 and will get lots of use from all the features in the Gear S3 Frontier. I've graduated from the Palm Treo 750 (sturdiest, stablist ever) Blackberry Bold 9780 ( sexy, executive styling great security-related product no apps) Got my son a iPhone great for him but too simplistic for myself. I discovered Samsung and been through most but jumped from Galaxy S5 to Note 8.There is lots of great products out there but at the end of the day it is about personal needs, wants and experience. iPhone users tend to bark loudest about irrelevant things that the daily common iPhone user won't ever notice. Since 2000 every phone I've ever had never lagged on my or froze. Most of my friends and family have iPhone because they are affordable and simply to use ideal for the elderly. (no shade) they are always trying to convince me to switch but never have a good reason to support their choice other than "It's Apple and everyone else has it" I personally prefer power and flexibility and glad the Samsung Galaxy and Notes exist. No bias just a preference. I'll bet all the features on Gear S3 work amazing on iOS.

I think they may have put all the bells and whistles in the menus since the LTE version is supposed to replace your phone. It sounds like Samsung should have a "simple mode" for people that just want quick access to a few items. But as a recent owner of this watch, returning to Samsung after trying out a couple of different Android Wear watches. I have to say that it is very impressive. I wrestled with the price a lot. I wondered if I would miss large number of apps that Android Wear offers (I then realized that I barely used the apps that were offered on my Android watch) . But I welcomed the ability to answer calls on my watch (I have to be on-call sometimes and being to answer the phone quickly in the middle of the night from the watch is a good thing). It takes a while to get used to digging through the menu for some items. But after a few days I found myself navigating to where I wanted to be pretty easily. The watch feels great on the wrist but I'm a bit baffled as to Samsung's choice of watch band. I'll have to look into some replacements as the rubber band seems a bit cheap feeling. It's still comfortable but seems a bit cheap. I was pretty sure I was going to take this watch back but I instantly liked from the moment I put it on. So it's a keeper.
@TommyCrosby7 жыл бұрын
As I said before, I took a S2 Classic as a replacement for my Pebble Time and I still love it. The only drawback from the S3 is being slower and not having the high color always on mode (well, it also lack a speaker, but who want a watch speaker?). One critical thing not mentioned in this video: the lack of third party apps. Seriously, the store is abysmal next to Pebble and 85% of the apps and watchfaces are paid only. 2:50 - Just add an heart rate widget to launch it faster. Widgets are to the right of the watchface meaning that you just have to scroll right to access it without other navigation needed.

I got a S3 Frontier coming in the next day or two. What I like about this watch is that it looks like a watch. I think you may be experiencing some of your notification issues because it is a Huawei phone that you are using. I own several Huawei phones and they all have similar unique ways of handling notifications. I have a Gear S3 Classic and it works very well with my Google Pixel XL and my friend's OnePlus 3. I can reply to messages with S Voice with no trouble at all. The only time it really asks me to "Check your phone" while interacting with messages is when I press "view conversation," which is something that I absolutely never do with a watch. That being said, since this is a video about smartwatchES in general, I really love my inventory of the Samsung Gear S3 Classic and Huawei Watch for daily use and the Sony Smartwatch 3 for the gym (at least for the time being).
@asymsolutions7 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Samsung didn't shut anything out, the "limited" capability claim is an ass covering since there is more android phone makers out there than you can shake a stick at. If it was an android watch, they wouldn't need it as the blame would be on the manufacturer for deviating from the android protocol. But since this is a propriety O.S. they wouldn't be blamed for not "adapting it". As we see here

I love my Gear S3 Frontier LTE, and haven't encountered the delays you referenced when using it with my Pixel XL. Samsung Pay on this device is more reliable and faster than it was on my S7 Edge. I accidentally left my wallet at home the other day and was able to get by just with the watch despite most places saying it's not supported. It's fitness features are on par with the Apple Watch Series 2. Only issues I've been having intermittently are related to it not always reading my heart rate unless my arm is very still. But I don't have particularly good veins and others don't seem to have this problem.

Nightcore Lab I think the Frontier is going to sell more, for one because it seems to be the one being covered the most. Second, I think more people identify with its looks than with the Classic's. I much, MUCH prefer the Classic, though. It's amazingly beautiful, reminds me more of mechanical watches (which I love) and it does not have those bezel marks, so I'll not be bothered by those being misaligned with the marks on the display (OCD screaming here hahah).

I can’t see any reason why you’d want to quickly access heart rate info unless you’re exercising, in which case you’d likely have the exercise app open and displaying that info for you, and if you had a Samsung it would auto detect the workout. I agree that it should be fully compatible with the iPhone and other Android phones. I don’t see any reason it can’t be. It is a downright good looking watch, I must say.

The battery on my Gear S3 is superb! It holds 5 days with ambient display and s-voice disabled. I'm charging over night anyway (putting watch to its cradle) as I'm used to with Apple Watch, so I enabled ambient display that is so convenient and it holds 3 days like that! Also in comparison to AW (first gen), GS3 is much snappier, I like the design more and also the bunch of features like GPS, barometer/altimeter are awesome. I wasn't able to find as good watch faces though as I had on my AW (so i'm working on my own using the watch designer) and also I can't replay to and sms immediately on the watch as I'm using Hangouts on OnePlus 3T and not Samsung Messaging on a Samsung phone. I can send an sms through the watch contact list though. Strange.

don't get it twisted with this wierd review. this is a great watch. the stuff he is complaining about can easily be fixed with a software update. he also did not tell you that you can swap to aby 22 mm bands that you can find. I bought the red silicone one and it's looks amazing.

Thanks for clearing up some issues, I was considering this Smart Watch, but I don't have a Samsung Galaxy S(Shit) phone (nor will I ever, again, make the mistake of buying one). I was under the impression (misled by Samsung's marketing) that this watch would work on ANY Android phone, including my Xiaomi Mi 5 Prime, but now that you pointed out some of the Gear S3's limitations, I'll be getting a different watch. Bye Bye Samsung. Thanks for an honest review Juan.

Nice review showing the compatibility side with other phones. How about showing the full functionality with a samsung phone.

used the s2 with a moto g4, didn't like it too much because it felt too limited, however I now have an s8. Is the experience better having this with a samsung phone?

Great review! I love mine. Best smartwatch I've used in my opinion, and a huge upgrade over my old S2.

@@pongchannel. funny that you'd reply now given this was a comment I made 5 years ago. I have upgraded since.

Maybe try a different brand phone next time, like the Google Pixel or LG or Sony or HTC or OnePlus. Overall solid review.

You do know there is a widget for the heart rate monitor right? Haha come on man...

Most of your "cumbersome" complaints can be solved by adding a widget.
