When installing a heat pump with R290 refrigerant in the UK, it must be kept clear of windows and other openings for safety reasons. I guess a surveyor will pick up on that if you decide to move. Let's hope it is your forever home! I love your Phase Change Water Battery. I have heard, however, that Sunamp Thermino can be very unreliable. I'll keep my eyes peeled for your future videos. :)

Thanks for your concern. The installation is MCS compliant and has passed the OFGEM audit. I've had no issues with my Sunamp so far and further more with the power of automation, I'm using my heatpump as a combi boiler and enjoy on demand instant hot water

Looks an excellent set up, and way to go for the future, especially with the boiler upgrade scheme, but the outdoor tap and supply cut-off do look a bit close. Thanks for sharing.

Added links in description. Still trying to figure out the most optimal way to charge the Sunamp. I knew before hand it wasn't going to be the most performant with a heatpump cause of the higher temperatures required to fully charge it (65C). Although it's very efficient at maintaining the heat compared to a water tank so it might balance out
@danpye1991
@danpye1991 4 ай бұрын
@@Wawyed Running at 65c is obviously not ideal for COP. My heatpump uses around 1.5kw to heat a 250litre tank to 45c from cold during the warmer temperatures we have currently. It will be interesting to see what you're using for 300litres worth at 65c.
@Wawyed
@Wawyed 4 ай бұрын
@@danpye1991 Just to clarify, it doesn't constantly run at 65C just at the end of the charging cycle to fully charge it. How much heat is outputting from those 1.5kw? I want to also understand if I can charge it to maybe 75% and improve the COP.
@danpye1991
@danpye1991 4 ай бұрын
@@Wawyed So on a really good cycle I used 1.248kwh electricity and produced 6.293kw of heat. COP of 5 for hot water generation but only to 45c.

The outdoor plug is too close to the heat pump and should be moved.

That outdoor plug is installed too close with regard ignition risks for r290.

I am just about to get the same heat pump and Sunamp installed in a month or so, slightly bigger heat pump at 16kW version, would like to see how you have integrated it in to Home Assistant.

Can you do more content on the Sunamp Thermino, there is very little in the way of customer reviews on how they perform. I would be very interested in knowing things like the flow rate, once drawn from does the remaining stored heat just remain undiluted unlike a DHW cylinder where the cold topping up reduces the whole cylinder's water temperature, do you find you need to re energise daily or can you leave it longer? Thanks
@Wawyed
@Wawyed 3 ай бұрын
If with flow rate you mean the hot water pressure is the same as mains pressure. That is correct in terms of the stored heat, it releases a constant hot water temperature until is empty controlled by a thermostatic valve (I have it setup to 45C). The heat loss on it is great so it can last for days if its not being used.

How long have you been living with it, I'm guessing 3-4 month since your original video on your set up? I love a bath, I presume it more than capable of filling a bath? The other thing I thought you might have said was it looks too start recharging if it goes below 80% capacity, is this fixed or a level to user can set or just choose to fill once a day?
@Wawyed
@Wawyed 3 ай бұрын
@@ianed0007 I've only had it for a month. As I mentioned is equivalent to a 300L tank at 40C. So that should be more than enough for several baths. There a bigger size one as well for even more capacity. About the 80% is more like it tells the heatpump that the hot water needs to be heated again but you can control via schedule or manually when you want to do so.

Thanks. I'll subscribe and see if you've got more to say about it the longer you have experience of it. As I say, there is very little of reviews of the Sunamp by real users. I've been interested in one for a while but holding off waiting for more information on hold people are finding them. The low SCoP because of the higher recharge temperature isn't something I had really thought of before, so thanks for highlighting that.

@@ianed0007 I'll like to see after having a full year how much it affects SCOP value. Obviously the central heating won't be affected by it and the hot water is a very small amount of usage compare to central heating.

Nice install. Looking at the monitoring you seem to be heating the Sunamp every two days and at high flow temperatures. Does the Sunamp setup require high flow temperatures to generate the storage temperature or could you run it lower like a cylinder?
@Wawyed
@Wawyed 2 ай бұрын
In order to store the heat energy the P58 PCM used inside needs to reach at least 58 degrees so in order to fully charge the battery the return temperature needs to reach 63 degrees to make sure all of the material inside is fully melted

@@Wawyed Interesting. R290 then is the way to go if you wish to run a Sunamp. It certainly does save space, my 250L tank is huge in comparison. It'll give you a low cop value but you are not actually running for very long so it all works out in the end.
@Wawyed
@Wawyed 2 ай бұрын
@@carlarrowsmith Yes, R290 is much preferred. If not the battery has a heater element inside to help if the heatpump can't cope but i wouldn't recommend using it as It'd be very expensive to run. I think overall is still worth is as you don't need to worry about legionella cycles, takes much less space and it is very energy efficient in terms of heat loses. If you get something like octopus cosy tariff or have solar + battery you can just charge it at low peaks and it'll last for days
