Sorin thanks for all your tips. As another old timer, I've found fiberglass "pencils" invaluable for cleaning heat sensitive connections of tarnish and corrosion. (Not that it would have made a difference in this one)

U should invest in a small ultrasonic cleaner, it will save you time and can actually fix things that are short from water damage.. I know this is a screen issue. Just a thought.. but I've put dead board in my ultrasonic cleaner and they come out working..

PickledOnion I would put them boards in there it can get under stuff that a toothbrush can't. Obviously the speaker can't go in it but it's only 2 wires to remove.

Why did'nt you check with DC power supply, connect the pin & give 5 V to the pcb , then check the display conneter voltage , if 3.8 v & 1.8 v ok , the display light path is ok, i think boost coils or diodes faulty You can fix it i'm sure
