I also have the wave s8500 but it's running the original Bada 1.0. Yours is running Bada 2.0 which was only available through connecting the phone to PC using Samsung Kies. Not sure if this software update method works today. BTW Bada is the Korean name for wave. Shortly after the s8500 was released, the Wave II debuted with a bigger LCD screen- it was necessary because OLED screens were difficult to manufacture in 2010 and thus there was a supply shortage. The last wave phone was the wave 3 in 2011. Samsung subsequently through a series of complicated mergers turned Bada into Tizen, made a few z series phones running Tizen before backing out altogether because the Galaxy line was selling far better. Although it still powers many of Samsung's electronics like their televisions and smart watches where Android's Google play services are not really needed.

The original BADA operating system on the GT-S8500/S8530 is very similar to the one on the Star II and other Wave phones like the S7230. One thing to know about the S8500/S8530: If it is branded to a network, then it will have the original 2006-2010 startup and shutdown sound. That replaces the BADA startup and shutdown sound.

Same as Android 2.3.6 but speedier... I have S6802 (Galaxy Ace) but now it is trash. Lags too much also tried to install custom ROM but couldn't found proper one due to armv6 CPU...
