Love love love Samuel Barber!!! An exquisite composer of the first order. Did you know he started out in music as a singer? That is how he knew how to compose for singers.

This is the first time that I have heard Mr. Barber speaking. He seemed to be a very modest man and has an interesting slight accent. I enjoyed his little joke about Benjamin Britten especially considering their private lives. May he rest in peace, having given the world some very memorable music.

Their abominations don't exactly give the yucks to thoughtful and upright people.

Wonderful interview, what a gentleman Barber was. Does anyone have this NY Phil performance of Medea? Or the German-recited version cited in the interview?

Yes, I'm a bit confused too...incredible to hear two men having a conversation that sound so alike.
