I agree with some of the other comments here: the EMAD head makes a floor tom sound like a kick drum. And in fact that’s what I used one for to convert a 16” tom to a kick drum for a smaller kit. Sound is much too dead for traditional floor tom use. For that, choose something like an EC2, which will control overtones but not kill the tone entirely.

hey, I have a question, the edge (outside ring) of the EMAD is slightly bigger than the ring for tom heads, right? Because EMAD head is for bass drum.. Did you do any alteration to it? or does it fit any standard triple flanged hoop without having to modify it? (sorry for the silly question, I just want to make sure before I go and buy one for my floor tom.. it sounds great, by the way..)

Tim Peterson the outer ring is made of fixed plastic, the interiors are removable and there are 2 options. You need one!

Did you buy the one with "tom hoop" in the name or the regular one? The normal version only works for kick drums, you have to get the tom hoop version for it to fit floor toms

Yeah, im not using it at the moment( now i wear emperor coated). But check this! You buy the tom version? Is really easy to set up, try it and find your perfect sound!

Looks terrible and is really pricy, i can get that sound very similar with an emperor ... but it sounds good though!

The tom wears now a emperor coated! But was a good time with this head

seriously if you need that much dampening on a 16 inch floor tom you should question your career /hobby choices , you either seriously can,t tune or you need a better kit , i sometimes put 1 piece of moongel on my snare to take the bite out of it in a glass windowed venue
