*"To General Iroh: See you after we win the war. Your loyal son Lu Ten."*
@maxmitch96
@maxmitch96 4 жыл бұрын
So I was thinking about that letter. We see flashbacks of Zuko, Lu Ten, and Iroh on Ember Island and it makes him seem like a joyful, fun father/uncle. But this letter makes it seem like Iroh and Lu Ten’s relationship was extremely formal, barely any emotion conveyed in it. I may be reading it wrong 🤷‍♂️

@teenie9367

maxmitch96, I don’t think their relationship was formal because Iroh is incredibly sad and informal about his sadness, which he wouldn’t do if he were to honor his son’s memory, but either way seems right and if you’re correct that’d be pretty rad to see
@nickyson4life
@nickyson4life 4 жыл бұрын
Maxmitch96: I read the letter as a loyal son wanting to do his father proud. "General Iroh" and "Uncle Iroh" were two different people. I imagine he was strict as a fire nation general since that was the mainstream attitude at the time, but you wouldnt see a son who hates their father write them this letter. I feel Lu Ten was an admirable bender who really made "General Iroh" proud, and though they may not have had the loving relationship Zuko and Iroh had I can definitely see a more formal General Iroh being outspoken and proud of his accomplished son, probably often bragging how the fire nation was in good hands with him next in line and Lu Ten after. And then that all changed when Lu Ten died. His talented accomplished son died, and we know what happened from there. I think Irohs sadness doesnt stem from his son being "gone" gone. He has had time to accept that. I feel he is sad because he never had the time to help him down a different path, and loved him in a way he would have really wanted to love his son (the way he loves Zuko) and not the traditional fire nation esteemed father/esteemed son relationship they probably did have. I dont see Iroh being a bad father in any way, or having a strictly formal relationship with any of his family. I do see him being more strict, and "fire nationy" but I feel behind closed doors Iroh was more of a chilled father then some others were. Still the values him and Lu Ten held during their time together probably affected Iroh in his later years. No matter how much he learned and redeemed himself, guided and taught others, he could never truly help Lu Ten any further then carrying his memory with him.

We spend his whole segment (the best five minutes in animation history) seeing him help everyone he comes across, only to learn it's his way if honoring his dead son. My grandma passed this morning. Not like blood grandma, but someone who I looked after for quite some time, and she in turn looked after me. When we first met 7 years ago, I had nothing to my name but a bag of clothes, and a history of partying, drinking, and do nothings. I'm here 7 years later with my wife, my son, and so much more than I could've ever dreamed of owning. I got here because despite who I was then, Grandma took a bet on me. She walked with me, guided me. Helped me restore my relationship with my parents. To me, she was my Uncle Iroh. My favorite memories of her where when we'd wake early, and I'd fix her a bagel and tea, and then myself some tea. And we would just talk. Morning after morning we'd talk. Now everytime I drink tea, ill think of her. I love you grandma. And I'll miss you. Always.

I didnt understand the song then but now that I am going to be a full fledged adult...I'm scared. But this song (especially this version) helps me realize its ok to be scared of growing up. It's ok to say goodbye to childhood. I can always revisit it later. When I have the time. Growing up is what we make of it. I have so many memories from my childhood that will stay with me as I graduate college, move into adulthood, start my life, start a family, travel. I'll always have the comfort of those memories

And maybe a woman in a blue dress would linger, trying to help like she always does. But she would soon leave knowing that this time she could not help. The man, who usually looked powerful and strong, would appear like the lost boy he once was. And if someone was listening closely, they could hear Zuko singing the song he always heard his uncle sing: "Leaves from the vine, Falling so slow Like fragile, tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy, Come marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home"” -Anonymous

Mako Imawatsu voiced Iroh up until "The Tale of Iroh", passing away from cancer not long after. His understudy, Greg Baldwin, would take up the role from there till the end of the series. Baldwin has said that he often gets requests from fans to sing "Leaves From The Vine." Baldwin always refuses, saying that it is Mako's song to sing, and he won't do it.

I'm a huge fan of emotional moments in film and television, but oddly enough, I don't always cry. When I do, though, I sob like a baby. However, TV wise, there was only one tv show that made me cry my heart out: Gravity Falls. It was such a personal story, one that felt like it wanted to be made and one that needed to be told. When Grunkle Stan spent his entire life putting everything at risk to bring his brother back, when all he wanted to do was to hear his brother say thank you even after their lives together were ruined as teenagers, when he gave up everything, his entire life and memories, to save his family and the entire town, and Dipper saying a final monologue to the audience... I was in tears, man. I never thought any tv show could hit me that hard again Then I was recommended Avatar: The Last Airbender I heard it changed the status quo for what a cartoon could be, but other than that, I had zero context for what the show was actually about. So I started watching, and soon, I was enthralled in the sprawling world the creators invented, chock full of colorful and sympathetic characters that I'll always remember. Then... I reached Tales of Ba Sing Se. And I was not ready. Leaves From the Vine is one of my favorite moments from something I've seen on a TV screen, period. Even though I had never truly felt a big loss in my personal life, I really felt like I had when Iroh sat there at the tree, weeping, reciting this lovely ballad in memory of his fallen son. Then the scene becomes a silhoute, and the text reads In Honor of Mako Guys... I don't think I cried so hard in my life. Tied with Gravity Falls, Avatar is my favorite TV show of all time, and it's because of moments like this. We love you, Uncle Iroh We miss you, Mako

I know I'm late to the fandom but I finished this show today. I can't stop crying. I related to Zuko so much from the beginning and seeing his triumphant, well earned character arc was just so hopeful and inspiring to me. It represented how I had been the same and my journey of healing. When Zuko came back and was hugged back by Uncle Iroh in the last season, I felt it was him, the soldier who had come home. I'm sorry for the rant but this show has really represented what healing and acceptance of yourself and others is so raw and real manner.

Avatar was not a show, it was a journey. A journey through the lives of the characters, and the characters growth as individuals. The most amazing transformation was zuko. Iroh learned from his mistakes and lead zuko to a better path than the one he had set for his son all those years ago. Iroh though his past was less than ideal, always saw the good in life and everything. He realized he could not fix the past, but could shape the present to help and guide those around him to better themselves, and their understanding of life. “Destiny is a funny thing, you never know how things are going to work out.” -Iroh

'F' To the man who breathed life into the character that made me question the path I was taking in life and helped me become better for it. Today marks the 14th anniversary of Mako Iwamatsu's death. He was a prolific actor over the life of his career, doing what he loved until the day he could no longer. He was also an activist working to further Asian-American actors ability to work beyond stereotyped casting, and helped create the East West Players in 1965. In honor of his memory and the memorable characters he played enjoy a cup of tea today, and embrace the ones you love.

About two weeks ago, I found out my best friend died of cancer. He was the same age as me, 21. He gotten it after breaking his leg during baseball practice and an accident at his work place. He developed bone cancer in one leg, and when they removed that leg, it somehow went to the other leg. He didn't want to fight it anymore, and it wasn't until two weeks that I found out he died. I would have went to his visitation, but I didn't know he died. I love and miss you, Andrew.

While it showed us the dangers of the world it also showed us the beauty as well it showed us to open our minds to others and for us to better understand those around us not just people but nature too and through that we gained wisdom so that we can help others understand the way things are instead of what they seem

This show was a experience. I still don't think I've ever found a piece of media with character writing as consistently good as avatar, and I've always been a very avid reader, so it's not from lack of competition.
@Drag0nvil
@Drag0nvil Жыл бұрын
@@Parmesan_Seeker what sets ATLA appart is the consistency of its quality. There's several works like the Sword of Truth where in the author seems to just reach out to you and share his philosophy in a brilliant way but those moments are rather rare. ATLA does it more consistently it feels like. It's odd that a kid show does such a great job in not in telling a story. But also sharing deeper meanings like the impact of war and such. Another story from an odd angle that turned out to be a gift that kept on giving was the web novel: A practical guide to evil Do wrong right It's available on WordPress for anyone interesting, it starts a bit crude but as the story grows, the author does too. And as the author grows so does the world building leading up to a brilliant conclusion. Since you claim to be an avid reader I would definitely recommend.

Todays Fathers Day, I’m thinking of my Dad. My birth father left me at 6 months old. My Dad has been there for me ever since. Never once in my entire life did he ever address me as his Step Son, he always said “This is my oldest son”. Even when my Mom left due to her drug habit, nothing changed. He still said, “This is my oldest son”. My Dad has always been there, he’s taught me everything, every single good quality I have as a man I learned from him. Everything he is to me is what I strive to be for my kids one day. His words of wisdom, his stories and the way it would always sting when I was younger and he was right. I’d say “Dad, you were right” and he’d say “I know son, there’s nothing you’ve done that I haven’t. I don’t tell you things to be right, I tell you them so you don’t learn the hard way like I did.”. I know he won’t read this, I know some might find it cringe but I love my Dad.
