Sam, of all the instruments you play, I think you play euphonium the best.

I think euphonium and cornet bring out the best in my tone, but my upper register, technique, and day-to-day consistency are a lot better on the high brass than euphonium for obvious reasons (having played them for eleven years and euphonium on and off for about half of that).

I actually played this model of Eastman for a majority of my time in high school! It was a nice horn, though I agree it could be a tad bright at times in terms of tone. Low register was fairly open but for me, some of the really high notes were a bit stuff but that could've been a skill issue tbh. I'd say my least favorite aspect was the case as it was huge and clunky but if the worst part of the instrument isn't even the instrument, I'd consider that a win. Great review!!

Thanks for the comment Caleb! I’m glad our observations lined up for the most part! I chucked at “skill issue” lol

Hello samuel i am a trumpet player and i would like to play trombone but im a little worried about learning the slide. The embouchure is not a problem but the slide is. Im thinking of buying a valve trombone but i wont be able to play it in any bands. Should i get a valve or slide trombone. What do you think?
@SamuelPlaysBrass
@SamuelPlaysBrass Жыл бұрын
If you really want to commit to learning the trombone, absolutely do it with the real deal and learn the slide positions. The valve trombone has an interesting tone and has been used very effectively by jazz and banda artists, but as you said few groups would let you play one. Best of luck learning the slide-it is difficult but very rewarding.

@@SamuelPlaysBrass thank you so much. Im currently playing flugelhorn and trumpet but I'd like to play trombone. Would you recommend me buying a beginner instrument first?

@@LouieHodgson Maybe, but I think it’s important to try both a small and large bore trombone to see which fits you better. Your choice will depend heavily on what genres/styles you intend to play, your chop and lung capacity, and your own personal sound concept.

@@LouieHodgson In that case, you’ll probably do better on a small bore trombone, which is good, because they tend to be a lot cheaper! If you have any classical aspirations later on down the road, that would be the time to look for a symphonic large bore with F attachment.

Just wanted to point out that Sam's fourth valve finger looks like it's flipping us all off

HAHA true, I just prefer pressing the fourth with my middle finger since it’s the strongest/quickest digit on my left hand.

Yeah I figured. I haven't played a euphonium before so I wouldn't know. Love the videos though@@SamuelPlaysBrass

Double pedals are at best a gimmick and at worst a myth. Not real notes based on the physical principles of the instrument and certainly not useful for a review.
