Correction necessary: Getzen’s valves are NOT Monel like almost every other company’s valves. Getzen actually uses nickel plating, to which some attribute the superior speed of Getzen valves. Thanks for watching!

When I was in college, the Doc Severinsen Getzen Eterna Trumpet was the most sought after by the guys I knew at school. I think I mentioned this to you before. Looks like they have held their price very well, too.

Great horns indeed! We happen to have one at the shop-I’ll definitely try to review it before it goes out the door!

I have always wondered what the new Getzen student horns were like. My main horn is a '71 Eterna by Getzen Severinsen Model and my backup horn is a '69 Getzen 300 series. That 300 series was my first trumpet and has served me extremely well over the years.

I think it may be the case, as with many companies, that perhaps the old models are better in some ways, but I’ve also heard Getzen doesn’t hammer their bells to hell and back anymore, meaning a less brittle sound.

Hello, Yam 8310Z (yours) and this Getzen 490. Wich of the two is the most easy playing trumpet?? Thanks and greetings from Flanders - Europe.

Thanks for your comment. This is not really a fair question, though. My 8310Z is a professional-quality instrument, and the 490 is a student model. Although the 490 is relatively easy to play, it is not nearly to the same extent as my 8310Z. Personally, I have never played a trumpet that is easier for me to play than the 8310Z, but it is of course more expensive than any student trumpet like a Getzen 490.

Linda demostración maestro!una consulta ¿la trompeta getzen 490 con que trompeta del mercado o marca conocida compararia ?
@SamuelPlaysBrass3 ай бұрын
This instrument is similar to the Yamaha models YTR-333, YTR-3320, and YTR-3325. Standard student model specifications with rose brass bell. Aside from the rose brass bell, it is identical to the Getzen 390.

Looking to make a comeback after taking a 14 year hiatus. I’m really liking Getzen. Is the 490 a good option?
@SamuelPlaysBrass Жыл бұрын
I think this review should be adequate proof that it is a very good option. Best of luck with your comeback.

Will we ever get a studio Sam x shop Sam collab?

Just as soon as I can get the mic quality to sound okay at the shop :(

Haha! Real sleepers - yes they're a bit heavy (student-abuse-proof) but they actually play really quite well... Same goes for the 300 series. I've used a 300 series on the contest stage (brass band entertainment stuff, in championship section) - nothing glamorous about it, but it got the job done.
@SamuelPlaysBrass2 жыл бұрын
Good to hear from you, Tom! What on earth were you using it for in brass band, though? Did the whole section switch over to trumpets for a particular piece?
@EnglishTMTB2 жыл бұрын
@@SamuelPlaysBrass it was an arrangement of Mnozil Brass' "Blue" - three of us on Bb trumpets (me from the sop seat as the top line goes a bit higher than most brass band solo cornets like to play 😂).
