6:00 the "mage" it is pronounced "ma-gay." I study Japanese culture as a hobby. The 'Wareshinobu' is the name of the hairstyle a apprentice Geiko (Geisha) wears. She is called a Maiko. the bun on her Wareshinbou hair style is also called "mage." Very cool!

As one of the biggest Kurosawa's fan I approve this. Western samurai movies like "the last samurai" or "47 ronin" don't have the guts to respect the traditional haircuts, they think it would make their american stars "less cool". That's silly, chonmage is wonderful and Keanu would have been way better with it.

I think this hair style is ideal for bald. One of my friend losing his hair of center. I can suggest him to make this :D P.S. I am Korean, actually we had similar traditional hairstyle, `Sangtu`, but to make sangtu style, it doesn't needed cutting hair much. Just shave very little center of the hair, and band every hairs on it.

I know the 'Sangtu' (Korean 'mage' hair) is from China. Congfucius said "Your body, hair are from your parents, so keeping it no harm them is the start of respection of your parents" (身體髮膚 受之父母 不敢毁傷 孝之始也) Because of that Koreans had banded their hair. Samurai's chonmage is maybe also inherited from Confucianism, but I think it is more suitable for climates of Japan. More hot and humid than Korea or China. Now no more making 'Sangtu' hair. It had forbidden from Korean government which influenced by Meiji Reformation at late 19th century. Many nobles didn't wanted cut their hair, and 'Sangtu' became a symbol of revolution of Japanese Emperialism and Modernity. However more people thought modern hair is more comportable, although they don't like Japanese Colonialism, so 'sangtu' had abolished. :)

@@STARBALL_CH I agree. We, Koreans and Japaneses are neighbour and we lived many problems in last century. My grandfather was resisted against Japanese Emperialists. Now I am living and studying in Turkey, and there is a proverb: "House which have no struggle is similar like Wedding ceremony without music." We lived bad history, but also lived good histories. Especially Baekje (Kudara), Asuka period, and Edo period we are peacefully traded and lived together. Now, the relationship between Korea and Japan is not so bad also. I like Japanese cultures as Japaneses like Korean cultures. I am learning Chado (茶道), and Chado teachs us Harmony, Peaceful, Respection, and Franquility. Many of cultures are shared between us, such as Chado. :) I hope relationships between Korea and Japan go better and peaceful. :)
