On Monday before the reset, I decided to spend my raid tokens on SAM / MNK and therefore maining them in EW. All the reasons you listed here led to the decision because daaamn SAM IS SO MUCH FUN. That big dopamine hit when you Midare 4 thousand times with all the other big cds hits like no other job I experienced so far.. and I've got every DPS job on 90. SAM is just peak for me. The only thing that also has been mentioned in the comments already is the mobility that's tied to Kenki. I think having the mobility on a normal cooldown would make it less stressful because you dont have to think about having enough kenki to make a cool play. I think mobility enables a lot of cool moments and plays you can make, that it should not be tied to some gauge.

Was a nin main and decided to go to SAM for the next raid tier due to how unfun NIN felt. I'm not dissatisfied at all. This job is fun, feeling incredibly rewarding to micro optimizing, and even feels solid at 70 and 80 too. I'm really loving it.

They really got Sam almost perfect when it came out. Shb refined it. And after some practice on the 90 SSS dummy yesterday I really like the new opener and this shit still hits like a truck! Love it.

The only problem I see that SAM mobility is tied to Kenki gauge. It shouldn't take away your damage to do mobility moves.

I almost wish they could be changed to function similar to the RPR's teleports, even if it means losing the slight damage they do.

The Kenki to Damage ratio isn't worth using it on cooldown. Samurai actually has one of the best gap closers it's always available.

Well, in raid for downtime you can gap close away and get your kenki back by using the charged range attack

2 things i would like on SAM: Gyoten (the dash) not tied to Kenki and dealing 0 damage, just like Monk. Also give to Third Eye a sound/visual effect when we know it does proc without having to focus on the Kenki bar.

I feel like Samurai could use a gap closer like Monk's Thunderclap that isn't tied to any gauge or deals damage so it's mobility can increase. I also kinda wish there were other things you can spend Kenki on or upgrades to your existing skills, like a trait that turns Tenka into a giant, circular, fuck-off Judgement Cut attack or something.

I understand where you’re coming from, but it’s kind of contradicting to say you don’t want mobility tied to kenki, then state you wish there was more to use kenki on (insinuating a lack of options, when you’re vying to have one taken away) not necessarily saying I disagree, but maybe one of the reasons they implemented kenki is to be used for mobility? When there’s only a few options you don’t have to stress so much over whether you’re utilizing the right one or not 🤙🏽

How is the raids optimization on SAM compare to MNK in terms of complexity. I'm currently a Ninja main going into Savage next week and wanted a back up melee and I'm torn between SAM and MNK atm. Any thoughts anyone?

I play Sam in my static and i had it pretty easy to optimize durig prog, while i think my monk dps partner had a lot more truble, but in the end we both did a lot of damage. The thing with Sam is that your way more flexible regarding positionals. You always can plan out which positional you want to use next for the coming mechanic, while monk is bind to it.

SAM is great. It wasn't bad by any means before, but the changes added just fine tuned everything to such a degree that it's just like you say; it flows so damn well. Damage-wise I'm not worried. There will be some job balancing come the 6.05 patch when savage is released. Most people are expecting some potency changes, either minor reductions to RPR or minor buffs to SAM, but nothing too extensive. SE has always taken a measured approach when it comes to that sort of balancing.

If anything we'll only see buffs on savage launch. SE does not do a lot of balance updates to jobs on first savage release, generally, unless something is very undertuned (NIN).

They usually save the big stuff for major patches (Nin rework, Smn partial rework, Mnk partial rework), but the first savage patch tends to have quite a few balance and QoL changes. For example, they gave Energy Drain back to Sch on the first shadowbringers savage patch

Sam is fun, but its damage is just as much as Reaper and does not bring a party buff. It's just not worth the spot for a selfish dps if you are progressing

Sadly you're right. Reaper needs some tuning. It's a bit overpowered at the moment. One class shouldn't top both adps and rdps.

Well this isnt completly true. While ofc reaper brings the damage buff utility, but its useles without someone who can use it for its full Potential. Thats why Sam is on Top of the adps ranking. In allmost every P4s groups i allways outdamaged reapers by at least 1k.

@@kunstlerischesetwas1284 lol old post. 4 weeks ago when I posted this was before the slight buffs to SAM. If you checked the parses back when I posted this, Reaper was on top of aDPS as well. Your personal experiences don’t changes parses 🤷🏻♂️ but glad to see SAM and BLM back on top.

Yet another player who turns everyone elses spells and graphics off. Such a shame they messed up so badly with the eye bleeding visuals that turn every fight into an acid trip. Someone needs to tell the developers less is more.
