I think it's a case of mentality. Jack is noting that afro is a murderer Afro is mistakenly assuming that Jack is coming after his headband. this is still, to date, my favorite death battle. The animation was so good and I felt like I didn't know right away who was going to win. The fight itself was tense but also drawn back by the very real moment of afro complimenting Jack's jumping. And since neither had any special abilities the fight was short and sweet and was a true homage to both of their skills as swordsmen. I cannot express enough how fantastic this death battle is in my opinion.

Afro lost against Jack because Jack is stronger, faster, tougher, and more versatile. has trouble keeping up with a street lvl robot, Jack destroyed armies of robots that tear through cities, and even one-shotted a giant robot that was causing Earthquakes just by running. Afro could barely block lasers, Jack blocks, dodges, and even parry lasers and light beams from robots, mythical creatures, aliens, and literal gods on a daily basis. Afro was wounded by an rpg and needed help from a lady from his past to recover one time, Jack recovered from a wound inflicted by a half demon in a forest with little resources and even tanked hits from an Eldritch Abomination that enslaved entire planets. Afro only knows Kenjutsu, Jack literally invented Mixed Martial arts in his universe and has even combined them with magic powers. Afro's headbands were revealed to be powerless overhyped strips of cloths as Lady Sio stole the number 1 from Afro without wearing the number 2 and was later killed by a clone of Afro's dad while she was wearing the number 1 while he didn't have the number 2, plus Justice died of old age in the manga while he had the Number 1, contradicting the Immortality statement, while Jack's sword has legit magic powers. Jack stomps Afro hard.

actually, not true about the headbands. You see their powers in the main season and when Afro was beaten, he was not wearing either headband because he wanted to do away with the killing. His entire story is based upon the flaws of revenge. Also, the "clone" had killed afro, making it the rightful #2, so it could challenge the #1 ; dunno about justice/manga

See, now that’s actually a really interesting question though. Thematically they have very little in common (although Logan _has_ done the whole Samurai thing before), but I’m legitimately curious who would win. Jack’s sword might be one of the few things capable of harming Wolverine, but he’s one tough SOB and they both have superhuman strength and skills. Would be interesting to see how that fight plays out.

You do know they don't have to kill with their swords, right? Jack went 67 years without spilling the blood of another. Plus when your sword has such a clear scent of blood, that's not a good sign.

Well, in case you didn't know, most swords don't have such a distinct smell, and even less do when they look cleaned. Even if a sword has cut through someone, it wouldn't smell unless you literally held it to your nostrils and took a big whiff, and that's only if it's actually dripping with blood rather than cutting someone and then being washed off before smelling it. Basically, it IS a big surprise. The fact that Jack and Afro can plainly detect such a distinct amount of blood from each other's sword in a clean, polished state proves how much bloodshed they've caused, which is a bad vibe to be sending a fellow samurai/ronin.

I don't think the swords literally smell of blood, I think that's just sort of a metaphor for saying, "I can tell you've killed people." And while I wouldn't expect olive oil, various oils are often used in cleaning swords so I'd expect a well-maintained sword to smell like oil, yeah.

Well that's how it work for the 4 seasons. Any battle damage is all fixed up the next episode, but in season 5 any battle damage stay there. He was slowly losing his clothes in the first few episodes.

While this isn't the best death battle in existence, this definitely is one of or my most favorite among them all. While it's not super flashy or filled with superpowered bouts, that's what I like about this. They're two unique swordsmen having one hell of a duel. Plus that ending of the fight always gives me chills ,the way the music just highlights it even further.
