So if I have never played a Samurai Warriors game before which would you say is better to start with, 4 or 4-2? I keep reading the features between the two, and watching a bunch of good reviews, but I just cannot decide. I guess I am mostly curious about which has the most content and the best weapon customization system. My favourite Warriors games are Orochi 3 Ultimate and 8XL because of their amazing weapon fusion system that lets me do all kinds of awesome builds.

I was kind of disappointed that they removed Chronicle mode for 4-II. Ya it was a long simple mode but they could have explanded on it in 4-II with new events and/or speical story events.

I have a question. I haven't played any of these games but im want to start now. which one should I buy samurai warriors 4 or 4 II? in 4 II the story is the same or no? I read the story chapters of 4 and I want to play them. 4 II includes the same chapters or no specially the nobunaga story.

Why didn't you mention lack of SW4 campaigns? I haven't played 4, so only additional stories without main ones are a dealbreaker for me.

I think my only real complaint about 4-II is that unlike Xtreme Legends you get less characters in this expansion.

I agree i feel like the expansions XL and Empires should add atleast 5 or 6 characters. 1 is just insulting might aswell sell them as DLC instead of a whole new game.

Sugoroku was the real deal back in samurai warriors 2 . I remember being 7 years old and playing it with my best friend ,it was so fun. Also I'm buying samurai warriors 4-2 tomorrow , I couldn't resist

I'm confronted with the choice of Samurai 4-2 or Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate (both are on sale for vita). My only experience with musou is Dragon Quest Heroes. I'm not really into the visuals of DW and prefer the anime spinoffs. Is there a clear argument for one over the other?

Samurai Warriors 4-2 follows the history of Sengoku era Japan or the Warring states era. Warriors Orochi 3 ultimate is a crossover between Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors and features characters from both games as well as new original characters and cameo characters from other franchises. For example you can play as Kasumi and Ayane from Dead or Alive, Ryu Hayabusa, Rachel and Momiji from Ninja Gaiden, Sophitia from Soul Calibur, ect. In SW4-2 you can create your own character while in Orochi 3 you can only customize the color palette from the characters and allows you to edit the battlefields in order to create your own stories. I haven't played 4-2 myself but I did enjoy SW4, SW4 Empires and Spirit of Sanada so I'll be getting it now that it's on sale. I had a lot of fun with Orochi 3 and seeing the different characters from different eras interact with each other was great. Also Orochi 3 has more content than SW4-2 and more game modes like versus mode. If you'd rather play an original story with demons and supernatural creatures and a lot more characters then get Orochi 3. If you want to learn a bit of history about the Sengoku period Japan and want better graphics than go with SW4-2. You can't go wrong either way since both games play similarly. Also Orochi 3 only has the characters from DW-1-7 and SW1-3 so the new characters from DW8 and SW4 will not be in the game just in case you're looking forward to playing as a specific character. The story from Orochi 3 can be a bit lacking and doesn't give you much info on the characters since I guess it assumes you're familiar with their backgrounds already. It won't follow the history of the Three Kingdoms or Sengoku era but instead it gives you an original story about time travel and destroying an evil hydra and a Nine Tailed Fox. The game has many characters and it fails to give everyone equal amount of screen time so you won't see much development in that regard. Orochi 3 gives you free costume for the characters while in SW4-2 all of the costumes are DLC so you won't get any in the game unless you buy the DLC. In the end it depends on what you're looking for, a game with lots of content or a game with a more coherent story and character creation. Hope that helps.

I ended up starting with Samurai Warriors 4-2 because it is more compact (the size of orochi 3 is intimidating for an amateur trophy hunter), the visual style is slightly more appealing, and I like the idea of all the story modes (reminds me of playing through Namco fighting games for story scenes). Since I'm really enjoying the game so far, I'm gonna pick up orochi 3 because now I can see the appeal of all the content.

Yeah I just got SW4-2 myself since I love the Warrior games. This was the last I needed to complete the SW4 collection. To be honest, the original SW4 is better than SW4-2 at least the story mode so if you ever get the chance then I suggest you get to play that game as well. I also highly recommend Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends and Samurai Warriors Spirit of Sanada if you're into story scenes. :)

GothicPunk007 I picked up Dynasty Warriors 8 Extreme Legends Complete Edition on vita because I want to play DW and SW before Orochi. I definitely like SW more because of its aesthetic and pace. I like the objective system and being able to switch between warriors (and issue orders). I don't regret DW and it definitely is harder

I love both series but if I had to pick one I think I would go with DW over SW since I love the history of the Three Kingdoms a little more. I'm glad you're still enjoying DW despite you finding it more difficult. I hope you enjoy Orochi 3 since it's a mix between SW and DW. Also Orochi 3 has character switching as well and you can form a team of up to 5-6 characters if I remember correctly and you can switch to them on the fly. There is one mode I really liked, I think it was called Gauntlet mode. It's challenging but very fun. Let me know what you think of it when you play it. Just out of curiosity, who are your favorite characters from each franchise?

I think it's been almost half a decade since 4-ii and Spirit of Sanada went on sale. It's like they forget those games exist but Dynasty warriors and Warrior orochi games always go on sale

To me, Spirit of Sanada being released made 4-2 almost pointless. Except battles like the Battle of Honnoji not even being extra missions bugged me ton, i prefer it greatly to what ive seen of 4-2.

This game is good but 100%-ing it is hell. Sometimes they just put too many playable characters for the battle, even if they've already been in the same battle in another campaign. And I feel like they could've done way more with the character interactions on the battlefield. Also, I really miss: 1) Personal campaign for every character. 2) 4 different looks for the weapons. 3) Actual emotions in dialogue portraits. It did get way more dynamic compared to 2 and 3, I can give it that.

This may just be nostalgia but the maps also feel a looot more homogenous compared to 2. In 2 every map feels super different but in 4/4-2 the maps mostly feel like rooms with hallways between.
