Was super excited to play this deck. Like you said, isshin ended up being a win more card and the necessary black ended up slowing me down immensely, especially against life gain enchantment decks that have gotten super popular lately… Subbed out the usher for mothrider and threw in banishing blade for removal and am having a blast now. Have so many options for eater of virtue now, throw a battery on mothrider turn two for a 2/2 hasted flyer. Buff him with virtue, he dies, I get a flying equipment. Loving it, thanks for the blueprint!

The new standard format feels much more fun than it was before NEO. I hope that those new builds are able to keep up with izzet control/dragons and BW sac on the longer run, they seem to be doing a good job this far. Very nice deck, it's a shame that the dream of triple combat phase is not consistent enough, but getting it once sounds like enough. Have a good one, your content is the best

thanks for the deck tech, yours is the best I've seen. although I run it with 4x Showdown of the Skalds. I don't have any Eater of Virtue, I'll get those later in the season. But Showdown of the Skalds makes the deck quite resilient, and you can give a bunch of +1/+1 counters on the creature you wanna attack with. Showdown is the shit

YES! I love Isshin and I'd love to make a Commander deck with him, but honestly the "attack alone" clause makes the deck better in Standard.

I just saw this after looking for ways to refine my new Jeskai Samurai deck, lots of helpful info! Definitely adding Maul and Lizard Blades to my deck. I've only done a few test matches and I'm not an expert deckbuilder, but so far it's pretty good. I like Lion Sash as a reconfigurable equipment, because you can spam graveyard exiles for +1/+1 counters, which also helps against any deck that benefits from cards in the owner's graveyard. Wandering Queen is nice for pumping up your extra samurai as blockers. Cleric Class also seems to be pretty good. The whole deck features some solid lifegain and blue counter which works well defensively. Not sure if it's going to be too clunky at higher ranks though.

25:16 you could use akiri's ability to unattach the equipment from the usher and get something to block, survive and probably kill the opponent on the way back. And go to both equipment to avoid another removal Edit : nvm no white mana

And this is cool to see more diverse matchups, more interesting games and, well, sometimes you just get mana-screwed, sometimes you just punch opponent in a face with two creatures when they can't do anything. 14:20 late as I am, you could have played around that by playing Raiyuu, attacking with Usher and trading, moving battery on Raiyuu and getting there (assuming there's no Voltage Charge). Plays around Play with Fire on Usher.

I'll post this on patreon too, to see if you answer it there. Can you attempt a "Training Together" deck in standard with Isshin and the Training mechanic. I do not know if there are still any training mechanics in standard, but if you have and odd and even power creature attacking together, they will remain odd and even, and keep building off each other, with Isshin in play. Add in some "all attacking creatures have double strike" creature, and maybe the enlist mechanic and it could be a great deck.

Try out Kargan Intimidator to replace Isshin. He's a sleeper rn in the meta. I run him in a mono R aggro and a Boros warrior deck and he always performs. Especially with battery and the one mana R enchantment from NEO!

I think triple eater of virtue is a mistake. The card is fine, but you never want more than 1 copy. Even in the unlikely chance when it's removed, replaying it will likely be a bit too slow, and drawing multiples has no benefit whatsoever. It's a perfect 1 of card, maybe 2 of, but that's it. 1 card I think people are sleeping on is the colourless land that draws you 2 cards if you control artifact and enchantment. It's not great in 3 colored decks, but in 1 or 2 colored decks it's great, since there are a lot of artifact and enchantment creatures around, and especially in aggressive decks it's easy to cash in for value.

I like Showdown more in decks that play a lot of cheap cards including burn spells, although would still be good vs control. Nahiri would need more Warriors and fewer Samurai before she can truly shine.

I'm asking this because I was thinking about a Akiri Deck that has a lot of cards in common with your deck, but it would be more focused on the reconfigure creatures and use Nahiri/Ingeneous Smith/Showdown of the Skalds as card adv and I don't know how many of each I want in the deck, since they are all non-artifact permanents. Every time I hear someone said "Raiyuu", i think "No no, it's pronounced Ree-you", only to look at that card's name and remember, no actually it is literally "Raiyuu". I've been hurt by Street Fighter too many times.

It’s situational but if something with the Eater and a rabbit equipped dies you have an extra haste granting equipment

Eater of Virtue explicitly requires the exiled card to currently have a keyword in order to pass it on, but auras, equipment, and keyword counters are removed from permanents when they're exiled. So unless they're actually listed on the exiled creature card (or are perpetually added to that card in Alchemy), the keywords won't be passed on by Eater of Virtue.

@@smoothie445 Haven't revisited the deck yet, but the Arena search function is your friend. Look for anything that says "when attacks". Fable of the Mirror Breaker is the best card in Standard and actually works quite well here.
