I think you need to give them gifts to become their friend, and then you can be them once you fill the friendship bar.

So what do the Conch Shells do? Are they used to level up your accessories? I can't imagine that those rare ones can't all become Level 20, or else they would probably not show a level at all for them if they were static.

Is it possible to obtain the Platinum trophy on any difficulty? Got back into this game but it's laying Normal mode and read in various places some items will not spawn unless you are on Hard or higher.

KnightHood Difficulty does not matter. I manage to plat this game a while back and believe I never once played on Hard to get those accessories.
